(Ashdeer pov)
I looked a the last of the bodies being burnt on the pyres. The tiny koors stood in a small circle and huddle near the pyres comforting each other. Their otherwise smooth and childlike faces contorted with deep grief. Yet when I moved they followed me around, nodding and bowing to me to show how grateful they were for the little help I had provided.
My heart contracted.
They had all deserved better. All of them, including Raymus and Nanna. I shut my eyes remembering her unseeing eyes and broken dead body. She had died doing her duty. While I had been ignoring mine.
Azriel, I found myself moaning, What have you done to me?
