Chapter 2 - The Rewards of Good Will

'My head was throbbing, my breath ragged, all my muscles screamed at me to stop. Every punch felt like a bullet and every hit felt like I had no strength left. It seemed as though no matter what I did I could never affect my opponent the way they affected me'

These were the thoughts that both Donovan and Lucas had about their match at the time. It was the third round and they'd been giving it their all both were on the verge of being knocked out for good. that's when they both put every last ounce of strength they had into two punches. Donovan threw a lead uppercut that hit so hard that Lucas's body bent from the force, while Lucas threw a lead hook that hit hard enough to move Donovan's head looking the other way. they both felt the impact and knew they had one shot left throwing a straight with all they had getting what no one would ever know the most perfectly timed trade off of all time. Lucas went cold on the spot but Donovan still had a little bit of consciousness, which he used to protect is closest ally and friend from hitting his head on the hard ground by sticking his hand out. that's when both their heads hit with Lucas having a soft fall and Donovan hitting the thin mat on too of concrete.

"Why would you give up everything and not protect your self with that last bit of strength, why didn't you at least try and help yourself?"

Donovan had never been a religious person but he knew that the voice came from a higher power and that's all he could be certain of. And so he answered truthfully. "Boxing is an art form, it's an amazing dance between two perfectly honed bodies trying desperately to prove their worth against an equally strong opponent, to take away someone I'm certain is better than me from the world if boxing would be doing it a disfavor, so if it takes my sacrifice for a new champion to exist so be it."

The voice laughed heartily, which Filled Donovan with a warmth he'd never felt before, before it said,"As a reward for your good will towards a fellow companion I'll grant you two things when your conscience again: 1 an extremely heightened reaction time, and second a strong faith in yourself and your strength."

Donovan asked the lady question he felt he had the time to ask ad he felt his consciousness pulled from that place,"Will I remember this?"

"Perhaps my child or maybe you'll find this all to be wishful thinking."

...

To what had been a minute to Donovan was more like half an hour, his friends were on the middle of taking him to the hospital when he woke up, realizing what was going on took him less time then it usually would but he didn't notice his new found strength yet.
