At the very back of the cottage was a mahogany door, behind which was a simple but spacious study. Several documents were piled high on the table and a half-drunk cup of tea was rotting on a side table, beside the telephone. Pens and papers were strewn all across the tabletop as if they had been knocked down in a hurry. The entire room reeked of blood.
The wall opposite the door was covered with a gigantic bookshelf that was completely empty. Now that it was empty, Falcon could spy a doorway behind it, that Zue opened the way to by pressing open a button so that the bookshelf slid aside.
Entering the most obvious of secret doorways, Falcon saw that a spiraling staircase was leading the way into absolute darkness.
