Chapter 100 - Something Isn't Right.

Jane drives her car in the dark as the day draws to the end and another day begins.

She dialed the number of James like ten times but it's been busy. She even started wondering how she will sleep on that bed all alone when she has no one beside her.

Why does everything just seem useless now that James is absent? She needs him.

"I need you" Jane grumbles as she drives down the slope of the road and corners to the left where her house is standing in the middle of the plain land.

Jane parks in the garage and alights from the car when immediately she unbuckled her seat belt, locked the car, and walked into the house as the crickets chirped because of the night's darkness that they dwell by.

Like a tired mother returning home from work, she opens the door, enters the house remembering to lock it, and then went straight to their bedroom.

She has a short shower and then wears her sleeping dress and pounces on the bed, a mum, working all day just to help to feed her family.

Raven starts to think and summarize her experience with James. That woman said they have been married for three years, why does she remember it as two days.

Only?

Is something wrong with her retention? Or is she having a lack of retentive memories?

Or loss of memories rather?

Something is serious... Not right.

She sighs deeply with her eyes failing her. But the beep of her phone makes her arise with the hope that it's James or someone that can comfort her.

But it's just a text from the company of the phone she has. It's an update.

Raven didn't hide her disappointment seeing this. She feels the urge to just break the phone and lose connection with anyone who wants to talk to her.

She throws the phone to the other side of the big bed in annoyance. This is all hopeless!

The phone though, staying in the lying place of James, immediately makes her remember her husband and his charming smirk she experienced two days ago.

And no wonder all these fights and everything felt too long between them. No wonder they felt absurd fighting with each other.

Or should she try him a-

Her phone starts to vibrate with an ear-piercing ringtone piercing her ears. She is very sluggish in getting her phone because the last time she hurried to get it, it was just a text from her phone company. How stupid!

She gets the phone anyway... And yes!

{It's James! Can't believe he made me suffer like that!}

She quickly answers the call and from the other side, James' voice can be heard!

"He-Hello?!"

"James!" She starts to sob with invincible and forced-out tears rushing down her eyes.

"Why didn't you answer my calls?"

"We were dealing with a critical situation and it needed attention, so I left my phone in my office. I'm sorry, it won't happen again, I promise"

Jane smiles very happily that he made her his first promise.

"Thank you" she whispers and there is a little while of silence in between them before they start talking again.

"Are you okay alone down there, I can call only female maids to help down there"

"No. I'm fine"

"Have you eaten?"

Jane's eyes widen hearing this question and hearing the growling of her stomach. She has not eaten!

"Uhhh... Yeah...?"

"Go have something to eat. Sorry to starve you out of worry"

Jane's smile widens.

"Who told you I was worrying?"

"Why won't you worry. I am your husband, after all, you should worry about me. Remembering every good thing I have done for you"

"Oh really?" Jane asks with a creased eyebrow.

"Yeah really. You can't tell me you don't miss my body on yours, can you now?"

Well... She can't, he's right. She does miss him a lot.

"No. I can't"

"Good. Cause I miss yours underneath mine"

This makes Jane blush unstoppably, even if this is a phone call. Why does he have to make it feel like they are already doing that? His body on hers and hers underneath his?! It's killing both of them to know that they are just saying and not presently doing it! They need to find a way to stop this stupid job that James got himself into and make him spend a whole lotta time with his family. Especially his wife! They are all essential to each other!

"When are you coming back?"

James' voice ceases for a moment and that keeps Jane wondering what he has to say that she does not already know.

It's work again. Probably a whole month, perhaps, even more than.

"I'll be back in a day. I would have come tomorrow, but I need to make something right first"

It's for the best.

"Okay. But please answer my calls, you leave me suspended whenever I call and you don't answer"

"For the sake of safety, whenever I'm in a comfortable place to talk, I will call you. I will enter labs tomorrow and I will not be with my phone. And do not also text, it can make where I am to explode cause of the chemicals"

That makes sense. His safety is more than her inquiry about his safety, so...

"I got it. But please call or text whenever you have time, I want to know how things are going"

James nods from his office and with a little voice "I will"

Jane smiles and also nods with her hand covering her mouth like she wanna burst out crying!

"I'll see you soon, love"

Jane's heart both skips and jumps at the mention of that word, coming from James.

"Likewise. Sleep well"

The call takes one more minute before James finally hangs up and Jane lies on on her bed again.

Oh... It felt good talking to her husband this night.

She threw the phone to the other side where James lay and balanced her head on the pillow on the bed with a blushing smile on her face.

Now that she has heard his voice, her heart is at 76% rest. The phone on which she used to talk now represents him for now.

"James..."
