Rowan let out a slight yawn as he sat up and stretched. His body was a bit sore; it wasn't anything he couldn't handle.
Spending years sleeping on reed bed on a dirt floor had tempered his desire of luxuries from his life on Earth. He was still getting used to having two separate opposing viewpoints.
One of a poor young orphan who spent most of his childhood hungry and working to get any scraps he could.
Then there was the young adult from Earth who came from a decent middle-class home. Never really needing for anything, but always looking up to those with everything.
With how his desires had meshed, he would be happy just getting a soft bed with some fluffy pillows and a comfy warm blanket. That is what sounded amazing to him.
Rowan spent the morning sitting on the deck of the boat and watched as they began to prep the boat for the trip back. There were only two masts on the boat, and it wasn't that big to begin with.
It was only ten minutes later when they were ready to go, but they still waited for it to be about 9 AM before finally setting sail.
Rowan got to watch as the boat slowly began to move away from the island.
It was the only place he had a decent understanding of in this world, and he would be leaving it behind for the unknown.
He began to reminisce a little as he looked back towards it.
He didn't like the place, or have any kind of major connection to it, but it had still been his home for all his life.
Sure, it was shit.
But it was his shit.
Rowan walked along the deck, glancing around at the various sailors, and even chatted with the captain a bit.
He walked to the edge of the boat and peered over, trying to see if there was any fish or creatures he could see.
His mind went back to the myths of legendary sea serpents, krakens, giant squids, humongous sharks.
It may have been myths before, but here, it was a real possibility.
The one thing that kept him the calmest was that he could see his destination already in the distance. All he needed to do was reach that spot, and all would be good.
"Hey Captain, any recommendations for what a new comer should do in Farway Town?" Rowan asked the boats captain.
The Captain thought for a few moments.
"A place to spend the night is always a good thing to have in mind." He started
Rowan already had a fallback plan for that. His [World Seed]. He could sleep there if it was ever necessary, but he didn't want to get into the habit of it, since if he vanished at odd times, it would just lead to questions, and he wasn't able to check if he was being watched by some kind of magic or not.
"Aside from that, a man needs to eat and drink, so having money to buy those things is necessary." The captain said.
"About that, I have only heard of coppers and silvers, but nothing beyond that." Rowan said, digging for a bit more information.
"It's 100 coppers to 1 silver, 100 silvers to 1 gold, and 100 gold to one platinum. That's as far as I know, so if there is something about even a platinum coin, I don't know about it!" He said with a hearty laugh.
Rowan gave a small nod.
"Is there any places for work for people who travel?" Rowan asked.
He didn't show it, but he was very excited to be in a fantasy type world. He wanted to travel and see new things. As lovely as it sounded to settle down in a town or city and just work, he didn't think he would be able to handle it, knowing just how fascinating things were out in the world.
'I wonder if dragons exist.' He thought.
The Captain gave a nod to his question.
"Aye, there are a few guilds that you could join. There is the Adventurer Guild, the Mage Guild, and the Craftsman Guild. These are sort of known as the 'Big Three' when it comes to guilds. There are many more guilds, but they are more specialized. The alchemist guild, the merchant guild, the smithing guild, and so on." He said.
Rowan thought it over. "Can I join more than one?"
"You can, they are usually fine with it, and understand that at times they can overlap. Take the Alchemist Guild for instance. They craft things, and they use magic to do it. So, it's not a surprise when many of their members are also members of either the Mage Guild or the Craftsman Guild, or even both! I knew a guy once who joined 4 guilds!" The Captain laughed some more at that.
Rowan gave a small nod when he heard that and couldn't help but nod a little more when he heard that.
His [Forest Prowler] class would definitely be categorized under the Adventurer Guild, but his [Woodworker] profession would make him capable of joining the Craftsman Guild as well.
That didn't even account for him also wanting to learn magic in the future which would of course be under the Mage Guild.
'I wonder if there is a woodworker guild as well?' He thought.
"Farway Town has a branch of each of the 'Big Three' Guilds, but if you're wanting a more specific Guild, you likely aren't going to find one in a small town like Farway Town." He said.
That cleared up some of Rowan's worries for the time being. He could just try to join one of those in the future.
"How do I go about joining one of the 'Big Three' guilds?" Rowan asked.
"Oh! That's simple. You just need a corresponding class or profession that would work well under them and you're good!" The Captain said.
"So I can't join the Mage Guild unless I have a class related to magic?" Rowan asked. The only option he had currently was [Druid] for his next class, so he didn't know for sure if that would count. Something to find out later.
"Then what if I wanted to learn magic to be able to get a class or profession related to it? Would they teach me a bit so I can meet the requirements to get one?" He asked.
The Captain quickly shook his head from side to side. "Nope! They are just a gathering of people with similar capabilities. They don't teach you that stuff. If you wanted to learn though, you could either wait outside the guild and try to ask the members if one will teach you, but that is quite rare. The other more solid option is to issue a mission with the guild to be taught. It's fairly common, but depending on what you want to be taught, and for how long, the price can skyrocket." He said.
Rowan couldn't help but frown a little. It seems he would need to find someone to teach him about magic at this rate. Druid was an option, but he wanted to try and get unique classes similar to his [Forest Prowler] class.
The boat they were on was slowly approaching land, getting closer and closer. Rowan could even see the harbor where they were headed to, and some of the larger boats that were there, and ships too!
He called the current boat he was on, a boat, because it was much too small in his opinion to be considered a ship.
While they were getting closer, Rowan saw one ship starting to leave the harbor. A couple minutes later, the ship passed right next to them, and Rowan got a good view of it.
The ship was fully armed with cannons, and there were dozens of people walking around on the deck in a hurry.
He looked up towards the symbol on a flag at the top of the main mast.
It depicted a sea serpent with its mouth wide open biting on the edge of a sphere with water partially filling it up, and the head of a trident also inside the sphere.
Rowan couldn't help but feel that the symbol was familiar, and it didn't take long for him to figure out why.
He reached into his burlap sack and with his hand inside the bag, was able to retrieve an item from his [World Seed] into his hand. Then he pulled it back out. This was a method he had come up with to easily hide his unique ability so it didn't look like he was pulling things from thin air. That would cause problems.
After he had the item, he looked at it. It was the scroll he had which had a few different gods written down on it.
After he flipped it open, he looked for a symbol, and found one identical to one on the flag.
'Arallon, the God of Oceans, Rain, Tides, Whirlpools, Sailors, and Islands. The other ocean god besides Nalarie, and he is also considered to be in the Good alignment.' Rowan thought.
After seeing this, he put the scroll away and couldn't help but stare some more at the ship that was slowly sailing away, in the direction of Rimouwater Island, the same island he just came from.
When he was thinking of that, he couldn't help but remember the necklace he made for Jessie. She wanted a necklace of the symbol of Nalarie, so he made one for her, now he sees this.
Rowan couldn't help but think that something was going on. But what exactly, he didn't know.
It took about another twenty minutes for their boat to dock, and Rowan got a good view of the town.
The Captain had called it 'small' before, and if this was small, he couldn't imagine how large some of the cities would be.
There were cobblestone streets, carts rolling around, either being pulled by horses or cattle, or pushed by people. It seemed to have so much more life to it when comparing it to Strata Town.
It was clean, had well-built buildings. There were homes, shops, parents and children. It was almost like heaven to him. He slowly started to smile a little bit more.
But right after their boat docked, a couple of guards of the town came onto the boat and started checking everyone. One of the guards holding a small booklet while flipping through it and looking at the faces of the people aboard.
They stopped walking infront of one man, and the one with the booklet stepped forward and flipped through some pages while glancing up at the mans face then at the booklet before eventually shaking his head.
It seemed to him that the guards knew where this ship had been, and were checking to see if there were any exiles or stowaways on board, and they didn't find one.
That made Rowan relax a little bit more, and he was finally allowed to leave. He looked back into the distance, barely able to see Rimouwater Island, before finally turning his back to it and walking into the town.
It only took a few questions here and there to be directed to a decent yet cheap restaurant.
Rowan walked inside the restaurant and walked inside to a corner seat. The inside of the restaurant had the scent of baked breads and grilled meat, and many seasonings to go with.
He took in a deep breath and slowly let out a soft sigh. It truly did smell good.
A waitress had eventually come over, breaking him out of his small trance.
Rowan ended up ordering a large bowl of beef stew for 20 coppers, and while much more expensive than he was used to, he didn't hesitate to pay it for a good meal.
After ordering it, he decided it was time to grow his [World Seed] again.
[Mana: 48/48 (+3 per minute)]
[Nature Energy: 48/48 (+0.8 per minute)]
'Let's see, I can grow it 16 (48/3) cubic yards. Let's make it 1 yard longer then.' Rowan thought.
He made it grow, and then he checked on [Layout] for its new dimensions.
[4 yards wide x 4 yards long x 4 yards tall]
The storage of Mana and Nature Energy were now 64 points each.
While Rowan was grinning a little to himself about the growth, he heard some whispers from a nearby table.
"Hey, have you heard—"
