The loud sound of vibration brought me from my deep slumber.
I groaned and covered myself to block out the sun that shone brightly through my curtains. My phone buzzed loudly and I groaned again.
While under the covers I aimlessly searched for my phone with my hand and found it, I took it and clicked answer.
"Hello?"
"Yo sleepy head wake up! Get up!" Uma's voice shouted from the phone and I winced, should have checked the caller ID.
"Uma, give that back! Sorry, Zita, Uma took my phone"
"Tell her to get her ass out of bed!" I heard her shout in the background, it is way too early for this amount of enthusiasm.
"Uma stop yelling it's too early for you to be yelling!" Carol said, repeating my train of thought, the two started bickering on the other end but I was too sleepy to bother hearing it "Is everything alright?" I asked wanting to know if this was an emergency call or there was an important event I had forgotten.
"Ah, everything is fine, was just calling to remind you about tonight and that Uma and I might be a bit late."
I slowly sat up "Late, why?" I asked, confused and still very much sleepy.
"We just got texts saying we need to come in for a practice, it's just only for today, but I'll try to leave as quickly as possible so you don't have to wait alone," Carol said trying to reassure me.
"But it might be a good thing, so you and Kai can talk!" Uma shouted in the background and Carol must have punched her cause I heard an ow.
I looked down at my lap, the thought of being alone with him made me extremely nervous and anxious, what was I even going to say when I meet him?
What on earth will we even talk about?
"Sorry about that, I can call them and tell them I won't be able to-"
"No no Carol it's fine, you don't have to do that. I know how much your clubs mean to you guys, I'm sure I'll be fine" I said doing my best to convey I was okay with it-I was not, I was shaking with nerves.
I could hear her uncertainty on the other end by the way she sighed "Okay, call me when something comes up okay?" I told her I will "Don't do anything I would do!" Uma shouted one last time and the call dropped. I chuckled knowing Carol was most likely punching Uma for that last comment.
The thought of how awkward it will be just made me feel more nervous, I sighed and laid back into bed, contemplating ongoing and being late myself but that's just being mean. A soft knock brought me out of my mental dilemma "come in" I answered and the door opened, Mrs. Urakusai's head popped up from behind the door.
"Zita dear, we going to the twins' soccer match today and was wondering if you'd like to join us?" She asked, walking in and sitting on the edge of my bed.
I thought about her offer, it's not like I'm doing anything today. To be honest the only thing I have is homework but I can do that tomorrow and I guess I'll be pretty bored by myself while I wait for six.
"Ya sure, let me get ready" I answered and she smiled "Okay, I'll let the twins know your coming" she placed a gentle kiss on my forehead before heading out of the room and closing the door behind her.
I picked up my phone and opened Kai's chat message and hovered, the urge to type something calling to me but what am I even going to say?
I eventually gave up on the idea of sending a text. I should just use this time to focus on today and the twins' soccer match. This will be good for me, get my head clear of any distractions.
Just as that thought crossed my mind a quick image of the stranger in the woods flashed by and my ear tingle. My cheeks immediately flared up and I buried my face into my pillow.
Why on earth am I thinking about him right now?
I reached over to my ear and touched it, I could still feel his warm fingers gently pinching them. Was he making fun of them? Did he think I was weird? Did he like how my ears look? Does he have a weird ear fetish?!
As more and more questions rose the more I blushed, I hit my head onto the wall to stop the thoughts, which worked but was painful "Smart move" I winced as I rubbed my forehead. I'm acting like a lovesick teenager.
Well I mean I am a teenager but I'm not lovesick!
I groaned into the pillow and threw it across the room, got up, and went to go take a shower, hopefully, that will get my head straight.
I feel like my life is just this one big comedy show, where I'm the main character and everyone is just laughing at my suffering. I got dressed for the day, wearing a cute sunflower dress that reached to my knees, a perfect outfit for an outing like this, I brushed my hair and made sure it covered my ears, grabbed my beach hat to keep it neatly down.
"Mom, mom!"
I stepped out of my room and quickly moved out the way as Kasumi ran past me towards the stairs holding two soccer balls.
"Mom!" She called out again.
"I'm in the kitchen, stop running in the house!" Mrs. Urakusai shouted back, Kazane walked out of their room dragging their soccer bags which got me wondering what could be in there that's so heavy she has to drag it?
"Kazane, you do now you can use your wind to just pick it up, right?" I said walking up to her.
"No thanks, Kasumi and I agreed not to use our powers during games even during practice and when we have to move the equipment," Kazane grunted as she tried pushing the heavy bag.
I wanted to offer some help but I could see the determination, I stopped myself from interfering and allowing them to do their things. I made my way downstairs to find Mrs. Urakusai packing food into a large picnic basket with Kasumi constantly calling right next to her.
"Mom I can't find my shin protectors, I looked everywhere, help me, Mom" she whined and I could see Mrs. Urakusai was about to reach her limit.
"I'll help with packing the food, you can help Kasumi find her shin pads." I offered quickly grabbing the lunchbox in her hand so she doesn't have the chance to decline.
"Mooom!" Kasumi pulled on her arm, getting more and more impatient "Okay, I'm coming" she looked at me and smiled "Thank you, sweetheart, don't forget to pack the baby back ribs, they in the oven" She said just as Kasumi dragged her out the kitchen to go find her shin pads.
I chuckled at how dedicated the twins are to their love for the sport. I continued packing the abundance of food Mrs. Urakusai prepared and I'm pretty sure half or even maybe more was for the twins.
Tetsu walked in clearly looking like he just woke up "Morning Tetsu" I greeted him, he simply nodded and reach for the coffee maker, and poured himself a cup.
He took a look at me and assessed my attire "You look nice, you're going to their match as well?" He asked taking another sip of his coffee.
I nodded "Your mom asked me to come, I agreed since I don't have much going on," I said opening the oven and took out the baby back ribs, the container was still warm and tightly sealed "Aren't you coming with us?" I asked him, seeing as he was still in his PJs.
"I can't, I'm knee-deep in school work and Mr. Scott asked I go by the dojo as new supplies are coming in," Tetsu said scratching his head, I could tell he was tired and probably wanted to continue sleeping but his obligation to responsibility was far greater.
I silently cheered for him.
"See you guys later" he walked out of the kitchen and headed back to his room. I closed the basket and tied it carefully so that it doesn't open when we get to the car and all the food spills out.
Mr. Urakusai came into the kitchen and greeted me "Where's your mother?" He asked as he reached to take the basket "She's helping Kasumi find her shin pads" I answered, he nodded in understanding and that was our exchange as he left for the car.
We don't talk much, not in a bad way or anything. It's just his not much of a talker, he gets straight to the point and doesn't beat about the bush. In a way his sort of blunt in certain situations.
We eventually got all the things packed into the car "Okay everyone get into the car, we don't want to be late!" Mrs. Urakusai called out as grabbed her purse while checking she had everything she needed before heading out the door.
"Bye Tetsu we'll see you later!" She called from and closed the door behind me, I slide into the back with the twins. Once we were all in, Mr. Urakusai pulled out of the driveway and headed to the twin's soccer match.
