Coming back with the sandwiches in hand, Mr . Smith handed one over to his wife, while Temi stood up and took hers from the plate in her Father's hand.
Thanking her Dad, she went back to her seat and sat down as she began to much on, on her sandwich.
"Wow, what a delicious treat...!" Temi exclaimed.
Mr. Smith smiled.
Turning to look at his wife seated beside him, Mr. Smith said;
"I learned it from the best cook!"
It took Mrs. Smith a while to get what her husband was saying and who he was referring to...
But when she did, she slowly turned to him and smiled.
Temi loved this moment, but she had come here for something different.
"I rate to ruin the moment, but can we get on with the story...?" She asked.
"You guys should stop using your love life to torment us singles...it's not healthy!"
"How many of 'you' singles?" Her Mother asked.
Temi rolled her eyeballs.
'Here we go again...!' She thought.
Turning her attention to her sandwich, Mrs. Smith smiled as she said;
"So the Prophet told us that we would have four kids...three (3) boys and one (1) girl, so we were thankful to God...!" Mrs. Smith said smiling as she remembered it all.
"You know how I love a huge family...kids everywhere...!" Mrs. Smith said as she raised her head to look at her daughter.
Temi smiled slightly as she slightly nodded.
"Yeah...!" She said.
"So yeah, we were thankful to God that at least we would be blessed with a houseful of kids...so then he began talking of our daughter...!" Mrs. Smith paused.
"At first, we didn't understand what he was saying because we thought we don't have kids yet and that I was still pregnant...!" Mrs. Smith said as she laughed about it.
Temi chuckled.
"How could you not remember that you both already have a daughter...? I mean, she was literally in the midst of the three of you!" Temi said.
Raising her arms as she gave off a look and then said;
"I don't know either...but it just so happened...!" Mrs. Smith said.
Quiet for some time, Mrs. Smith deliberated within her about something because she looked really anxious and somehow sweaty.
Looking up at her daughter, Temi could see the anxiousness in her eyes.
"So what did he say about your daughter?" Temi asked curiously.
Raising her head to look at her daughter, Temi could see something in her Mother's eyes...
Was it fear...?!
"Mum, are you alright or something?" Temi asked.
Surprised by the question, Mrs. Smith asked;
"Why did you ask that...?"
"Because you look frightened of something?" Temi stated bluntly.
Lowering her head down, Mrs. Smith said;
"When he looked at the baby that was in your arms, he studied you for a moment...then he gently took you from my arms...!"
"Cradling you for some time he studied to you for about a minute or so, and then handed you back us!"
"Taking you from his hands, his face looked worrisome, so your Father asked what was wrong if there was anything that he saw 'bout you...and he said yes there was!"
"So your Father asked him to tell us and what it was and he said that he wasn't willing, but with the persistence of your Father and I... especially from your Father...he gave in." Mrs. Smith said.
"So what did he say...?" Temi asked curiously.
"He said that our daughter would be great and would be very successful...and prosperous and that, like I think I might've told you earlier, what it might have taken years for your Father and me to achieve, for you, it wouldn't even take months!" Mrs. Smith said.
"You'd be the greatest in the family...!"
Mrs. Smith said this, but Temi could still feel something hanging.
"Mum...!" Temi called.
Mrs. Smith raised her head to look up at her daughter.
"Yes?" Mrs. Smith answered.
"Don't be scared to say it...!" She said gently.
"I am your daughter, and what you're saying is related to me...!"
"Don't hold it back!" Temi said.
Mrs. Smith looked at her husband, who gave her an encouraging look and a nod, causing her to sigh, and then on came the boldface.
"Sure of course the Prophet said that you'd be great and successful, prosperous and well-known, he also said that there were things that could hinder all these from becoming a reality and that we need to pray against them...!" Mrs. Smith said.
"And what are they?" Temi cut in to ask as she looked pretty serious.
Turning to look at her husband briefly, Mrs. Smith turned back to look at her daughter again.
Gulping, she said;
"Relationships...!"
Temi's face did not change.
She looked deep in thought as her chin rested on her knuckles.
"The main thing he spoke about was on relationships...!"
"He said that we should be careful on the type of people you relate with, and though, we won't be with you forever, we would have to teach you the basics of life and relationships so that it won't be difficult for you in the nearest future!" Mrs. Smith said.
"Difficult?" Temi asked.
"What did he mean?" Temi asked again.
Looking down at her hands, Mrs. Smith said;
"Well, only 'he' knew...!"
Temi furrowed her brows.
"Knew?" she asked.
"Does that mean that he's dead or something...?" Temi asked, wide-eyed.
Sighing in frustration, Mrs. Smith said;
"I never said that Temi...!"
"Now can we at least go back to what we were talkin' 'bout?" Mrs. Smith asked, hopefully.
Closing her mouth, Temi nodded as she said;
"Okay...!"
Lowering her head back down, Mrs . Smith appeared to be deep in thoughts again as she thought of what she would have to say next.
It seemed like Mrs. Smith wanted to skip some things...
This time, Temi waited patiently...
Raising her head, Mrs. Smith said firmly;
"He said that someone would take what you loved the most...!"
"It could be a person, a thing, a personality...an attribute... something that you truly value the most!"
Once these words, Mrs. Smith watched her daughter as she studied her...trying to understand her.
Once those words left Mrs . Smith's mouth, Temi had her eye narrowed slightly as she thought, deeply.
What could be that thing that she valued the most...?
She asked herself.
Resting her head on her hand, Temi thought;
'What do I value the most? What do I value the most?'
'I value time...I value relationships...!' At the thought of that, Temi frowned.
'Mum just said that I should be wary of relationships...!'
Then she frowned again.
'But she didn't say family relationships now, did she...?'
Raising her head to look at her Mother, Temi met her Mother's eyes and stared into them, but her mind was somewhere else.
'The prophecy doesn't mean...what I think it means, does it?' Temi asked herself.
"Mum...!" Temi called.
"Hm?" Her Mother answered without shifting her gaze.
"Did the Prophet say what it was?" Temi asked.
"As in like, what that thing that would 'not be taken away from me be?"
"And who the person that would try that...is...?" Temi asked but was interrupted by her mother shaking her head in negation.
"No, Temi, I don't know...he never told us who it was!" Mrs. Smith said.
"But he did say to get careful...no not careful, to avoid too close relationships because anything could be used to achieve that... except till the time of marriage...!"
"But how do I know who the fuckin' b*tch is...!" Temi cussed.
"Ah ah ah... language Temi!" He Mother said she waved a finger at Temi.
Whilst being cautioned, Temi looked away from her Mother as she silently hissed.
"What next did he say?" Temi asked impatiently.
"He said that if you could be patient, you would hear other things that had to do with you and understand how to live your life!" Mrs. Smith said gently but firmly as she looked at her daughter.
Temi opened her mouth, wanting to say something but shut it back up as looked to the other side.
"The Prophet gave details of how the person looks like...!" Mrs . Smith said, catching Temi's attention.
"But, that wasn't something that we both put our minds to that much...!" Mrs. Smith said.
Temi's hopes fell...
She thought her parents would have acute information about what she needed to know.
But surprisingly not surprising...
They didn't...
Sighing, Temi slouched in her chair as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Silence reigned as both parents and daughter were trapped in their thoughts.
Who was Prophet anyway?
Temi couldn't help but think to herself.
Where is he...?
What's his name...?
"Mum?" Temi called.
"Hm?" Mrs. Smith answered as she raised her eyes and looked at her daughter.
Pausing a bit, Temi eventually asked;
"What was his name...?"
