Xiao Li's eyes lit up for a moment when she heard them yell about cops. For a moment, she wondered if she could be that lucky to meet her future husband on the same day she left her home.
She had no concept of how many cops existed in the country, so she was weighing toward the option it was very likely.
Meanwhile, Zhuge was getting really nervous as his hands were literally shaking. "W-what do we do, boss?"
Ruge, who had been staring at Xiao Li with rather conflicting feelings finally woke up as he heard Zhuge call out to him. He took a moment and finally with a heavy breath he said, "We surrender."
The rest of the men were stunned for a moment. Their boss, who they respected immensely and had followed for years and got them out from the most dangerous situations, suddenly asked them to surrender. They didn't know what to think and their morale dropped into the dirt.
Yuge, who had been cleaning his automatic rifle earlier and given the girl a bowl of noodles, looked at his boss with cold eyes. He was thinking their boss had become weak and less reliable ever since he became a father. He also had a tremendous confidence in his aim, he was certain he could finish of these five cops by himself.
Ruge was just about to take off the amunition belt when there was suddenly a loud bang which caused his ears to ring.
The sound bounced off the walls of the interior of the warehouse and only grew louder. Then more bangs followed by more bangs rattled off.
"What are you doing!" Ruge roared as he turned around and faced Yuge who stood by window emptying an entire magazine of bullets in an array of bangs and nozzle flashes.
However, he had just finished roaring as he was forced to take cover beneath the window when the windows of the warehouse shattered one by one by return fire.
All hell broke loose as bullets were flying everywhere, the other men began pulling the trigger of their rifles shooting outside blindly.
Splinters of glass and dust sprayed across the interior of the warehouse.
For a moment it seemed like it was a standstill, when a bullet suddenly shot through the thin metal sheating of the warehouse wall and traveled through Yuge's right leg and sprayed blood onto the dirty floor and caused him to fall down. As he fell down his finger was still on the trigger and sprayed several bullets in a line across the interior of the warehouse, one bullet traveled just a few inches from Xiao Li's head, while another pierced through Fange's chest.
Fange slumped down and caused Zhuge to panic and just as he ran over to help him, he ran past the open door and took a bullet to his neck. Blood sprayed everywhere but seemed to land nowhere as he was just at the opening.
Ruge clenched his teeth as he was still crouching by the window seeing all the chaos and his men falling down one by one. He threw a concerned look at Xiao Li who was still sitting bound in the chair. Her expression was still the same, as if she had no clue of what was going on. Then he angrily looked at Yuge who was trying to stand up again only to see more bullets pop holes into the metal sheating and filling him with lead.
Yuge fell back down onto the ground, his eyes lifelessly staring back at him while blood kept pooling up beneath his body.
"Damn it!"
Ruge gritted his teeth and looked back towards the girl. He was so conflicted, men he'd hanged around for years and had looked up to him were dying like flies, meanwhile he was thinking about that adorable face of his daughter who was waiting for him to come home. The part of the brain who had controlled all his decisions before he became a father, the part which was ruthless and cold and didn't care about anyone but himself, quickly took over and he was just about to stand up and run to Xiao Li and take her hostage when something suddenly punched him like an iron fist in the back of his chest. He fell down onto the dusty floor and at first he thought it was the dust he accidentally breathed in that caused him to cough, but as blood sprayed out and breathing became more difficult and staggered, he knew he had been shot.
The five policemen outside stormed the warehouse which was cloudy from dust from the gun fight.
"Clear!"
"Clear!"
"Hostage is safe!"
Voices called out as the policemen quickly moved around in the warehouse.
As the dust began to settle, a man, who seemed different from everyone else, stepped through the doorway with light from the police van outside shining in covering him with an aura.
Xiao Li's heart made a pause for unknown reasons, until the man stepped out of the light and his face was revealed from the shadows.
'It's him!'
Xiao Li swallowed and stared at her future husband as he walked toward her.
Another police man crouched down beside her and put a hand on her shoulder. "Are you hurt?" It was a woman's voice.
Xiao Li didn't hear her. She was too busy inspecting her future husband and wondering how it would be like to live with him in the future.
When her future husband came up to her, the police woman who'd been crouching next to her stood up and saluted. "Captain! The hostage is unharmed and all the targets have been incapicated!"
"Captain! All the stolen goods have been recovered!" Another voice came, this time of a young man, from the corner where the black bags were.
"En. Good work, everyone." Ye Chen responded. His voice was firm and carried a hint of warmth. He looked down at the girl who was tied to the chair and whom was looking back at him.
He raised an eyebrow as she didn't look the least concerned about what she had just experienced. He had seen several hostage victims before and never before had he seen someone with such a calm expression on their face.
