"Tyrone?...Ty?" Trinity shook the ash blonde guy in front of her. "Get up!"
She pinched herself so hard she yelped. But this has to be a dream, right?
Dorin held her daughter's hand and tried to console her, but before she could say anything, a wicked laughter sounded above them..."Did you worthless insects think you can fight with me?" His voice cut through Trinity's heart. The voice from which once Trinity was afraid, but now all she wanted to do was rip that throat out.
"You are all good for nothing, and all of you shall die just like all the others I killed," the Dragon Lord continued, looking down at the grieving party. Ah! There was Trinity, his next victim. "And you, Trinity... how easy it was to kill that pathetic grey dragon; Triyast. He was no match for me and neither are any of you..." he continued.
Dorin slowly signaled for everyone to move back. This was a nostalgic moment for her, when Trinity got really calm. She knew all too well what storm lay brewing beneath the calmness. That stupid black dragon was really barking up the wrong tree.
Trinity just sat there, recording deep in her heart everything that nasty flying lizard was saying.
From the first time she had met Tyrone, Trinity had felt something. Something she couldn't explain- then they both found out they were mates. The love and connection they built in just a few months... they had a whole life ahead of them, and it was taken; taken by this monster, who had also killed her father, Sabrina, Tyrone's father, Seavillton and Marina and God knows how many innocent humans and dragons. He has to die.
Meanwhile Dorin got everyone into the house. She had even offered the enemy dragons and the knights, all who wanted to save themselves to come into the house. At first most dragons were uncomfortable in sharing the same space with the knights, but then, their lives were also important.
Tyrone lay next to his brother on the floor. Dorin knew that Trinity will not be able to control herself and didn't want her to regret not being able to say goodbye one last time.
They watched through the window of the house as the so called 'weakling' slowly got up...
Getting up, Trinity looked at the huge black beast flying in the sky. Without a second thought, she shot up in the air, much to the Dragon Lord's surprise. No dragon was able to do that in their human form.
"WHY?" Trinity snapped. Her voice was heavy with anger and pain. There was something about her that was different... as the Dragon Lord observed. The girl that was scared of him was no where to be seen; instead there, hovering in mid air was a girl with large black eyes, hair way below her ankle, flowing in the wind like a kite.
"WHY RYPHONSUS?"
The black dragon's eyes was now wide in horror. No one for the past thousands of years had called him by his name, though almost everyone knew it. And that voice... he had heard it before. But where?
"They had done nothing wrong! They were all innocent! They all looked up to you, but you killed them! Why?" Now her voice was calm. Too calm. Gone were the black eyes and long hair. Now orange eyes shone as bright as the sun's rays. "He was my mate! But how would you understand, right? You never had a mate, did you? The only female dragon you loved was a no one, and preferred to drown herself rather then accept your proposal."
The black dragon turned pale. "How do you know that?" No one had known about that part of his life, not even the ones closest to him. "How do you know?" Now, his voice could be heard from miles away.
"Let's just say... nah! I'll just let you die without solving that mystery," with this statement, a laugh left Trinity's mouth. A very sarcastic laugh.
By now the so called Dragon Lord was burning in rage. He flew straight for the orange eyed girl's, who was yet to transform into her dragon, throat. He was swift, but surprisingly missed, as Trinity continued her taunting. "I thought you'd be better then that. You're slower than the sloth."
Again and again the black dragon struck, and each time he surprisingly missed. Now he was the one getting annoyed. No matter what angle he used, he still couldn't even touch the girl, let alone grab her throat. The laughter from the girl in front was unbearable for the mighty beasts ego.
"Who the hell are you?" He finally asked.
"Remember Alexandra? I'm her daughter. The girl you killed!" Trinity said with a smirk on her face.
"Lies! How can that be. She died in front of my eyes." The black dragon's strike at her again proved futile.
Another laugh escaped the girls mouth. "Remember Ryphonsus... the curse ... try to remember what the exact words were!"
***
In a cave high up in the mountains sat a huge black dragon, eyes as dark as the night itself, and size so massive that even large trees seemed like little twigs. He had grown tired of going out on hunts, and one or two humans didn't come close to satisfying his hunger. He had burnt most of the human civilization, and animals were also too little, and easily escaped in burrows.
He then made a plan. Calling on the leader of the village, he proposed a peace treaty; he will not come out to hunt, and in return, the village will provide him his food. Every day, a human would be sent to the caves as his meal, and in return he will not harm the others. The day this cycle breaks will be the day he would destroy all the village and everyone in it. With sadness they agreed- not that they had any other choice.
He heard careful, low footsteps walk into the cave. About time his lunch arrived. He could see that she was a child, barely thirteen or fourteen, but he was hungry. She will not be able to satisfy his hunger, but I'll do. Her careful steps and the smell of fear that penetrated her, made the mighty beast even more famished.
As she walked inwards, into the dark, her heartbeat gave away her position.
"You are so tiny!" His thundering voice made her squeak and jump in fear, like a mouse who found itself in a trap. Her head swang from left to right, like the tree branches in the wind. "Ple....please s...sir, I.. I... I beg you.... don't kill me," her voice trembled, and her heart raced as if in a marathon.
"But I'm hungry," the Dragon Lord replied. He loved to play with his victims... the fear emitted from them was intoxicating .
"I...I...I can ask m...m..my... my mother...she... she'll give you everything you want... please...don't don't kill me!"
A laughter rose in the cave, making the girl cower. She was barely able to breath. "I can't take it anymore, I'll give you a quick and painless death." With that the girl felt something peirce her leg. She gave out a cry as she tried to run towards the entrance of this cave. Another strike on her back. She spat blood. "Oh did I say quick and painless! I meant horrible death," with this last words, he struck the girl's throat. "Mother," she said, as she collapsed in a pool of her own blood....
