Chapter 1 - Half Moon

It's a normal day in Srimali village. A beautiful, small village situated somewhere in the deep forest of Mid India which was then known as The Bhartavarsha. Not many people know the exact location of this village as the residents do not want any visitor access in their land of mystery. The people of this village are known to have special powers. The families living here are blessed by the Ultimate goddess Kali herself to posses special powers.

Not everyone here had the access to the powers. Some exceptions were there too. Vidya was among those few people who didn't have anything special about them. Most of those people were in the occupation of agriculture. The Annadata clan, "Anna" means grains, "Data" means giver. Those who provided grains. Vidya was part of the family Annadata. She was youngest of the clan.

"Hurrrr...chal..chal..hurr", Vidya was taking the bulls from the shelter to the fields. She was a beautiful young 15 year old girl. Skin tone matching the ripened wheat grains, well toned body was the result of working hard in fields even on the bright sunny days. Her eyes were big and full of life and joy. One never saw her in sorrow. Long hairs tied up into a bun. Whenever she untied her hair they would fall down her back running to the length of her waist they resembled the cascade. Many young men would follow her to the fields just to see her. She was indeed charismatic.

"Vaijanti...Mangal..guys you have to help me a lot today so that I can sow the seeds. Others already had done the job. I think I'm the only one who's clumsy", she said laughing. "We just need to work harder, that's it. And all the work would be finished at the end of the day." She began working on the field with full energy. Her clan didn't have the special powers but they were the most hard working and well built people of all. The Sun began to set and she was done with her work. She went to the man made lake to wash off the mud on the bulls and then she would go to the nearby hot spring to relax and freshen up. It was dark and the moon lit up but half. She loved the half moon nights. She thought it represented the dual nature of exisistence the light side and the dark side. She was full of wisdom and looked for knowledge in every little thing surrounding her. Nobody was there at the hot spring today so she got really happy as could have all the hoy spring to her self. The hot spring was in the forest but you have to pay to the Vanrakshakas to use the forest resources such as these. The Vanrakshakas are the clan who protects the forest and maintains the water bodies in the forest. She paid the lady guard two mudras and walked down to the path which lead to the sudari kund. This hot spring was named so because only women had access to use it. People in this village followed every rule to maintain peace, so there was no men to be seen in that area. The lady guards gave their duty just half a kilometer away from the sundari kund so that the ladies could enjoy the hot spring without worrying.

Vidya got undressed. She took out a white cloth with which she covered herself and walked to the spring. She got in and kept the cloth at a rock near the spring. A sigh of relief came out of her mouth as the hot water worked it's miracle. All her muscles relaxed. She placed her head on her hands which were on a big rock in the spring. She took a deep breath as she was mesmerised by the scent of her favourite flower Mogra. This white flower which blooms only in night had a very specific and intoxicating scent and glows under moonlight. This place was Vidya little paradise. She came often to this spring mostly late at nights because very few or no people would come at this time.

She had her eyes closed as she heard footsteps approaching the sundari kund. A well built muscular man emerged from the dark of the jungle. A tall and dark young man, with dreadlocks, a three lined tilak on his forehead which represented the Shiva. He was undoubtedly his majesty, the prince of the Pashupati Clan. Vidya's face got all red due this immoral act of the Prince Shankara. She wanted to shout at him but he shushed her and stood with spear in his one hand other hand in the direction of Vidya to tell her to stay where she was. Vidya acknowledged the situation and stayed Calm. "Some dangerous wild animal must have come out of the forest".
