Chapter 7 - There’s No Way

"Isn't this just a math text book?"

What?

Upon hearing these words, Lin Xiaohui immediately flipped the book over and took a look. Tan Ruanjun was right. What she was currently holding was just a math textbook.

"There's no way! I was holding that weird novel…" Lin Xiaohui muttered under her breath. "How the hell did it become a textbook all of a sudden!"

Tan Ruanjun expressed concern on her face. She quickly placed the back of her hand against Lin Xiaohui's forehead for a few seconds before scrunching her face.

"You don't have a fever. What's the matter with you?" She asked.

Lin Xiaohui shook her head before replying, "It's nothing."

Instead of poking further into the situation she decided that perhaps she was dreaming earlier. It must be the stress of having exams soon that caused her to have such a weird imagination. She held the book in her hands and placed it on her drawer before she remembered something.

"Oh yeah! Xinyi told me to send his regards to you!" She exclaimed.

"Xinyi's back?!" Tan Ruanjun excitedly shouted.

"I exchanged words with him at the front of the campus. He said he was permanently staying in China." Lin Xiaohui explained.

"That's great~ My wallet is back!" At this point Tan Ruanjun was jumping around excitedly. She had a tiny stature and had bright blonde hair that she dyed, so in Lin Xiaohui's eyes, she looked like a small golden retriever running around.

"Oh! How did your studies go?" Tan Ruanjun suddenly asked. "You were gone for such a short amount of time.

Lin Xiaohui couldn't tell her that she spent the entire afternoon looking at a fan fiction about herself, so she laughed nervously and came up with an excuse that she had suddenly lost motivation.

"I actually wanna play a few matches of WOH. Exams are so stressful!" Lin Xiaohui complained.

"Ha! I told you!" Tan Ruanjun pinched her arm and Lin Xiaohui let out a shriek.

"I was playing with Wei Yun before you burst in. Do you wanna trio with us?"

Lin Xiaohui thought for a minute before agreeing. As long as that immature gamer didn't provoke her today, she would be fine.

The two got online and Tan Ruanjun invited Lin Xiaohui to a lobby. Wei Yun was already there waiting for the two of them. Usually, he would be using an alt account but this time was different. He was using his main.

Curious, Lin Xiaohui clicked on his profile to stalk his stats. His winrates were above 80 on all modes, and his squad was even verified. He even had so many of likes on his profile. Just as she was getting impressed by how amazing his stats were, she heard a voice call her out.

"Little sister, are you checking me out~" The flirty and teasing voice belonged to Wei Yun.

Lin Xiaohui panicked. She had forgotten that WOH automatically shows who visits your profile.

"How is it? Are you impressed? Did you fall in love after seeing how cool I am?" He sounded like he was smirking behind the screen.

"Fuck off, I wanted to see just how bad you were since you play so horribly on your side accounts." Lin Xiaohui immediately shot him down. By now she was comfortable enough with him to open her mic.

"Ow, you're so mean!" He acted hurt by her words, yet in reality she could hear him laughing. This annoyed Lin Xiaohui.

"Wei Yun, stop teasing my Xiaohui!" Tan Ruanjun spoke and scolded him.

"Sorry, sorry, I'll start the match."

The three of them were immediately matched up and got into a lobby with over 100 players. A few people recognized Wei Yun and were typing into the all chat asking if it was the real esports champion. Wei Yun ignored them all.

"I thought you would tell everyone your identity to get attention." Lin Xiaohui snorted.

"Your impression of me is really bad huh, little sister?" Wei Yun questioned. The match had already begun by now so instead of berating him more, Lin Xiaohui focused on gathering items.

"Xiaohui, here's a gun you really like!" Tan Ruanjun pointed out her loot and Lin Xiaohui followed her location to pick up the sniper rifle. Just then, a notification rang out.

At the top corner, it showed that Wei Yun had wiped out a full team all by himself.

Lin Xiaohui clicked her tongue in disappointment.

"You're taking all the spotlight for yourself!" She yelled into the mic.

"Sisters, it was you two that jumped out so far away! It's not good to always play safe, you know." Wei Yun retorted.

"Well, that's true. We didn't wanna go to crowded areas and die early so we chose a safer spot to land." Tan Ruanjun intervened.

"You wanted to jump into a safe area." Lin Xiaohui reminded her. Originally, she wanted to jump into the city with Wei Yun to get more kills early game. A lot of players usually went there to fight instead of wasting time.

Wei Yun was one of the bold ones.

As she said this, Tan Ruanjun's avatar had been knocked to the ground. Lin Xiaohui was immediately on alert and hid herself. She saw a few enemies running towards Tan Ruanjun's character and she positioned her gun. Three shots were heard.

"Wow! Baby Hui, you're the best!" Tan Ruanjun squealed as Lin Xiaohui revived her. Since they were playing with Wei Yun, a super high ranking player, the enemies definitely could not have been bots.

Wei Yun whistled and commented, "I agree. Little sister, you're amazing! Wanna play professionally?"

"Nope, gaming won't ever be my career choice. Junjun would be interested though." She didn't really think games could provide enough to depend on for a living. Plus, she didn't want to shame her family, although she knew they would support her in whatever path she chose.

"That's too bad, VCF needs an amazing sniper like you." Wei Yun sounded disappointed.

The three played a few more matches together before Lin Xiaohui decided to try studying again. She logged off and went back into her room.

She suddenly thought of the textbook from earlier and went to take it out of the drawer. As she approached, she gained a strange feeling in her stomach. It didn't seem like such a good idea.

"Ah, what am I thinking…" She threw away these bad thoughts and grabbed the book.

It was then that she realized it was no longer a math textbook.

It was the book about her.

She dropped the book as her heart paced with this sudden change.

What the fuck. What the fuck. What the fuck.

How did it go from a book about her, to a math textbook—and now it was back to the weird book?!

What did this mean? Did it change into a textbook if others aside from herself saw it?

Lin Xiaohui couldn't understand. Who wrote this, and what were they trying to tell her? She had read the first few chapters so she knew it was a reverse harem about herself and 4 suitors, but she hadn't read it fully.

She thought that maybe if she read it all, she would understand, so she spent the entire afternoon reading everything.

The book described how she was an aspiring actress and detailed her meetings Wei Yun, Zhan Chen, Shen Wuying, and even Gu Xinyi! It was so specific and accurate.

Then it got even stranger.
