"Ansel? Man, Get up." Mason had started shaking him now, but he wasn't opening his eyes.
"Ansel! Oh, fuck!" He sat up straight and held his head in his hands.
He took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Jack, take out your car. We need to go to the hospital!"
Amanda.
"I don't know why but my heart's beating fast. Like if there's something wrong,"
"Hey, everything's ok. Nothing's wrong." Wren squeezed her hand and smiled at her, Amy smiled back half-heartedly.
•
"It's a drug overdose, We have cleared his stomach and he is quite stable. We suggest a rehab." The doctor patted Mason on his shoulder and walked away.
"Oh, man. where the hell is his phone?" He muttered and patted his jeans pocket, he knew it was somewhere in there because he had picked it up before half-carrying Ansel down towards the car.
"Not his parents, they will kill him. " He scanned his contacts and decided on the contact named 'Cupcake'.
"Seems like we can trust her."
Amanda.
Her phone was ringing. She glanced at the caller ID and her eyes widened.
"I knew my heart was signaling me, he is calling me!" She half shouted.
"Hey, calm your panties down! Pick it up!"
She touched the green button and waited for him to speak.
"Is it 'Cupcake'?" Someone, definitely not Ansel, asked.
"Uh... It's Amanda actually, Who's this?"
"I'm Mason, Ansel's roommate, and friend. Listen, there's an emergency. I didn't know to whom should I inform, Um... can you come here?"
"What, why would I come there?" She demanded.
"Listen, Amanda. Ansel's hospitalized, It's... it's a drug overdose. If you could just come here please. "
"Where's Seth?" She asked. Her heart was beating super fast. He was hospitalized.
Ansel. Ansel was hospitalized.
"Oh yeah, I didn't call him, He was probably in class."
"Oh my, It's an eight-hour-long flight. Well, I'll try to be there till tomorrow."
"Okay, thank you. See you."
The call ended.
"Who was that?" Wren demanded.
"I have to fly to New Haven, Like right now!"
"What?!"
"Ansel's in hospital, he needs me. What do I do?"
"Girl, you should go! Wait, from where will you get the money?"
"From Carlos of course."
"Call him now! And I'm calling my dad. We are going together!"
"What about Marie?"
"I'll call her. We are not leaving you alone."
"Oh God, Ansel." She held her head in her hands, tears pooling out of her eyes.
*
"Just don't worry, He'll be fine. He's Ansel, You know." Amy, Wren, and Marie were sitting side by side on the plane, Amanda was looking out of the window.
"When will we reach?" She asked for the thousandth time.
"Soon, Just calm down. He'll be so damn happy to see you, Amanda."
"This is all my f-fault, I'm... I hate m-myself," She covered her face with her hands and started sobbing.
"Amanda, Come on! don't blame yourself. It's not your fault, Stop crying, everything will be alright." Marie rubbed her back soothingly.
She kept crying, tears running down from her cheeks, and settling on her palms.
Ansel.
He had woken up. But he didn't know who had brought him here.
A male in his late thirties entered the room and smiled at him.
"Good, you have woken up. How are you feeling?" He asked.
Ansel shrugged, feeling tired.
"Look, this is a serious issue. You could have died."
He looked down, still not speaking.
"We'll put you in rehab. This is the best thing for you right now."
He nodded. He needed this.
"Your family isn't here, but your friends are." He looked up at the doctor.
"Friends?" He asked, his voice rough.
"If you want, I can send them in. You need them." He smiled at him again, Ansel nodded.
The doctor left the room and in came Seth and Mason.
Following them were Marie and Wren.
"Y-you?" He pointed at them in disbelief.
"Can't leave you here without visiting, can we?"
They hugged him.
"Man, you look like shit," Seth stated the obvious fact.
"Thanks." Ansel tried to roll his eyes but he felt too weak to do so.
"Well, You're alive thank God!"
"There's someone you should meet," Mason said.
"My mom?" Ansel asked.
"You'll see."
He closed his eyes. They were burning.
Everyone left the room leaving him alone. Honestly, he was not interested in seeing anyone just right now.
He just wanted to sleep.
"Hi."
That voice. Why is it so familiar?
Why is my heart beating so damn fast? Am I dying?
He opened his eyes.
And there she was.
The girl he dreamt of every single night.
The girl he loved so dearly.
The girl he thought he had lost forever.
"Amanda?"
"You fucking idiot! Why would you do that to yourself?" She walked towards him, stood by his bedside, and demanded.
He didn't reply.
"Answer me! Did you think that taking this stuff will make you forget me? what the hell were you thinking?" She was half shouting.
He still didn't answer. It was so hard to believe that she was standing here. In this room. Shouting at him.
Okay, half shouting.
"Ansel? W-why did you do that?" She sniffled and he looked up at her.
She was crying.
"You don't even care about me, so why are you even here?" He demanded.
She looked shocked, then her shock turned into anger.
"I care for you dammit! I freaking love you, You asshole!"
She shouted.
His eyes widened.
"You," he pointed at her "love me?"
"No, I don't, I didn't say that."
"You did, you said you love me,"
"I didn't you assho-," He didn't let her finish. He grabbed her hand, pulled her towards him so that she ended up sitting in front of him, cupped her face, and kissed her.
And she didn't protest.
They pulled away after several minutes. She took his hands in hers and rested her forehead against his.
"I really love you, Cupcake." He whispered.
"I love you too, Asshole."
He chuckled, pulled away, and wrapped his arms around her.
"I just said that to make you feel better," She whispered.
"I know." He whispered back.
"But I like you, though."
"I like you too."
"Shut up, you love me." She pulled away and glared at him.
He smiled.
"Well, okay. Whatever you say."
She rolled her eyes.
"You'll go to the rehab, right?" She asked.
"Yes."
"I'll stay with you till then,"
"No, you can't do this. When I'll be out of there I'll come to you,"
"You will?" She asked.
"Of course, I've waited so long for you to be mine, and now that you have. I'm not leaving you alone,"
"Let's not talk about these things right now, How are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling awesome. You've made me the happiest man in the whole universe,"
She smiled and he wrapped his arms around her. She placed her head on his chest.
His heart was going crazy, he knew she could feel it.
At last, Ansel and Amanda.
Oh, life was good.
