Chapter 9 - Chapter 7 Rainy with a chance of death (4)

He instructed the other two on what to do.

"Keith, focus on blocking with your shield and protecting Haley. Haley, you use your magic, only use your spear if you must. I'll deal with the rest."

[Main Scenario-Witching Hour]

Category: Main

Difficulty: ???

Clear Conditions: Survive until all revenants have fallen

Compensation: 100 Coins

Failure: Death

In this scenario, those that have been slain ini previous scenarios will rise up as revenants under the power of Hekate, goddess of witchcraft and necromancy. The revenants would first target those that have a grudge against (those that they feel are responsible for their deaths), then those that provoke them, [Killers] next and bystanders last. They could track those that they hate.

The strength of revenants are slightly higher than the living persons, with significantly higher resilience, healing factor, an undead constitution and a few more skills. Their varying strengths and targeting system meant that the danger level of this scenario could not be assessed easily.

"Uooooooo…."

"Aaaaaaaah…"

The strange moans of the undead were faintly audible. While abiding Stephen, the undead he had to deal with were Rey, Donovan, maybe those that died to the spider...ah, the spider. Crud.

The scuttling of legs could be heard, and a spider limped into the canteen., minus a few legs and a hole or two in its chitinous shell.

"Tsk."

Without wasting time or words, Mason burst out with all his power, smashing his E rank Sword into the spider's skull. It's defence and healing factor have increased, so killing it would have to be done quickly.

With his increased strength and much sharp weapon, the spider's head was destroyed.

"Wow…"

Mason stood up, panting. Not much left on the spider since he looted it one already. Rey, Donovan and the 4 students who died from the spider were approaching him, and started to encircle him.

"HAAH!"

[Keith uses Taunt Lv. 1]

("A notification appeared. The vestige is working.")

Donovan and two of the students turned towards them, but Mason didn't have time to be distracted. He swung his sword in a wide arc, decapitating the 2 students, and blocking Rey's knife hand that was aimed at his head.

An X shape slash cut through Rey, while Keith and Haley had destroyed their opponents too. Black shadowy energy could be seen drifting off the bodies. It was [Witchcraft], strengthened by the Witching Hour.

"Let's go. Follow me."

"Go where?"

"Just follow."

Mason ran all the way to the east side of the school, stopping in front of a wall.

"There's nothing here. We can't leave."

The first sentence was wrong. There was an old graveyard outside the school. It was no longer in use, but stories of hauntings still circulated. As for the second sentence…

Mason pressed his hand against the wall and instead of bumping into concrete, his passed through like a certain scene in H*rry Pott*r.

"Wait up!" His friends rushed in after him.

"Where are we?" Haley asked. Both Keith and her trembled a little. No one would enjoy treading through a graveyard teeming with undead.

"A field dungeon. The environment is set to the theme of the monsters that spawn within, optimising their strength."

"How do yo-"

"Reading."

"Guooooo…."

Another strange undead noise drifted through the air, and several zombies appeared. Although they weren't strong, they were hard to kill and plentiful. Life drain, mental effects and poison won't work well against them, and their corpse poison was annoying.

"I'll lead them to us, and you guys kill them."

"Huh? What about you?"

"They are too weak, barely enough to pick my teeth, but you guys need the coins. In return, I'll 'eat' more of the boss."

They advanced, with Mason luring the zombies in while Keith and Haley practiced their skills. There were a few close calls but Haley's spear did it's job.

After clearing out the first zone, they chanced upon three treasure chests. Keith walked up to one.

"Wait." Mason pulled out his sword and poked the first chest. Nothing. Then the second. Also nothing. Just as he was about to go for the third, the lid sprang open to reveal a row of sharp teeth and a long tongue. Arms sprouted out the side.

Mason stabbed it in the mouth, spearing it's tongue to the back of it's throat. The flesh around the wound turned a slight purple.

He looted a G-rank health potion and "Mimic Matter". Mimics could drop loot from the chests they imitate, and "Mimic Matter" was material that could be used to make potions, masks or other gear that revolved around shape shifting or disguise.

The other two chests had a G Rank fire talisman and a hot pocket.

"Hot pocket? Hey, it's warm." Keith inhaled the whole thing.

("I have no clue why I set the loot like this.")

But the true reason why Mason came here was not to chill in a graveyard, or reenact the walking dead, but for the Boss. His Monster Core would be powerful, and along with the spider's core, more than enough to complete the [Jade Spiral]. And after the Tutorial, gaining Coins and Points would be a lot harder, but spending them would be easier, so hoarding up as much as he could was good.

The next section had an ambush, with zombies hidden underground trying to grab their ankles as they stepped over them. Mason simply got Keith to stick his sword into the ground where arms sprouted, and the threat vanished. The other undead showed up right as they finished. A Wight swordsman and two skeletal archers.

"Keith, this guy can actually use his sword and his touch drains life, so be careful."

Keith nodded, and lifted his shield to charge. The other party retreated while attacking and they started trading blows. Meanwhile Haley made short work of the skeletons with Magic Missiles and they both watched Keith fight.

The wight's performance did not waver from exhaustion or wounds, and it's life sapping touch kept Keith on his toes, making it a tough foe. As they locked swords, Keith's palm left his weapon's handle and slammed into the wight's armor, breaking the stalemate.

[Keith uses Mountain Splitting Palm Lv. 1]

A loud crack of metal breaking could be heard as the wight was sent flying. It tottered unsteadily to it's feet.

[Keith uses Mountain Leveling Charge Lv. 1]

It got hammered into the ground again.
