Chapter 19 - The Promise Held

*Atlas View*

Dealing with this heat was much harder. After his fever and insecurities left, it was a pure omega heat. His purrs of delight when I scented the room. His cries of displeasure when I denied him. My wolf howled at his discomfort, but I knew I could not give in to it. My mate needed me to be strong for him. The most I snuck in for myself, was a chaste kiss on his forehead when he slept.

After only the fourth day, it seemed his heat was subsiding. He slept longer and the symptoms did not last as long. His body was acting like a mated wolf already. If he was unmated the normal heat would have been a week or so. At first, I was concerned and talked to Doc.

"He sleeping again?" Doc and I were in my room discussing Kash's heat. Though I knew he was not a threat, I would not allow him near him at this time. "Then he has been sleeping longer intervals then?"

"Yes. About five- or six-hour intervals now." A small sound had me pause and listen, making sure he was not waking. "His symptoms are less intense as well. Along with his pheromones."

Doc smiled with a sigh. "He just reacted as a mated omega would, so nothing to worry about. If he had been alone during this heat his life could have been in danger. My medical side is a little upset you still have not marked each other. But I also understand. Make these next few days count. His heat was like this not only due to stress, but because he feels neglected by his chosen Alpha."

"I do not!" Doc then cut me off.

"Atlas. It is his own doing. However, I want you to be a little pushy now. For both your sanity." He got up as another sound came from the room. "He is waking and needs you. My suggestion is to offer him to join you in your meetings. Use it as a cover to get used to his duties. See how he takes it then."

I barely registered Doc walking out. Kash whimpered and I was already on my way to him. He was sitting up in his nest cautiously looking around. I smiled as I walked towards him. "Morning Kash. How are you feeling?"

He groaned. "Like shit. How many days?"

This had me chuckle. "Almost back to normal and it has been four days. You should be good to go tomorrow."

"Only four days! That must be a record. I have never woke feeling as bad as this though. Honestly I feel like a semi truck hit me." I smiled as he grabbed my blanket to wrap around his shoulders. "Umm, have you been here the whole time?"

Nodding my head, I watched his reaction. "All four days. Mostly in my room when you slept."

He groaned. The started to blush. "That is so embarrassing."  As some other thought hit him, he looked back up and glared at me. "Get out! I need to clan up and do not want you around right now."

I laughed. "Sure thing Kash. I will be next door in my room finishing up some paperwork. I will have the maids come and clean the sheets."

His eyes grew wide. "Can't I do it? No need for others to come in here. Right?"

"Are you still embarrassed from your heats? The maids here are all discrete and well trusted." His reaction had me a little confused.

"That's not it." He looked like a fish out of water for a few before he continued his line of thought. "Never mind. I can do it after I shower. No need for a maid." He then leapt off his bed to the shower still holding the blanket around himself.

Looking at his bedding still damp from his heat and then back at the shower had me wondering more of his reaction. The more I tried to process it the less I understood. I mind linked Doc for an answer.

'Hey Doc. Why would Kash not want a maid to clean his sheets?'

'Besides the understanding he is still in post heat? Post heat will still be protective of their nest and random scents. It could also be all about the scents, not just post heat wise. It is his room now and he will mark it as his territory.'

'Man. He is a needy omega.'

'Atlas. He is a dominant royal born omega. He will become very protective, as much as you are honestly.'

'Hmmm, I like that. I should scent that blanket more.'

'You should be scenting the room as well. Start slowly and increase during the next few days. It will help him become more possessive of you, not just the room and his belongings.'

I looked back towards the shower and made my choice. I took the initiative to strip his bedding. Placing the soiled bedding in a hamper I grabbed new bedding, including blankets, placing them on the bed. I added more pillows and tried to make sure he had enough if he wanted or felt any need to nest. While I did it, I gently scented every item I placed on his bed. While I walked around, I added the scent of protection for him; the same I did when he had his last heat.

Before Kash had finished his shower I made sure to leave his room with the door between us closed. Heading back to my desk and the pile of paperwork that seemed never ending, I waited to hear his reaction. The paperwork itself was not going to keep my attention; much to Zion's displeasure. He was right, I had been a little more focused on Kash.

It was no strain on my ears to hear the shower being turned off. Turning my head to my door I waited to hear his reaction.

"What the actual fuck? I told him no maids!" Kash's voice was not quiet at all. I doubt he remembers that our rooms are separated only by a door.

Soon I chuckled when I realized he did not use his nose once more. He really needed a lesson on being a wolf. Patiently I waited to see if he realized who did it. What I got was a quiet murmuring at first. Slowly I walked to my door. His voice was so quiet I had no idea what he was thinking and I feared I went a little to far.

Before I could get to my door, it was pulled wide open by Kash. He had tears in his eyes. My first reaction was to find the threat that did this and when I stepped forward just to do that, I was assaulted by Kash himself.

"Thank you so much Atlas. I know it might sound silly or really weird, but what you did means so much to me." He had his arms around me in a hug. Tucked right in against my chest, rubbing his cheek.

At first, I was confused. What made him sad with tears? Was there really no threat? It was me replaying his words that it hit me. He liked that I did his room and scented it. "You are okay with what I did?"

"Mmm." His only response.

"What happened to my snarky mate?" I chuckled but relishing in his close contact.

"I never said or agreed to that asshat. I was thanking you for the room thing." He stepped away and was a red as red could be. "You really...ugh!" Throwing his hands up he stomped back to his room closing the door behind him, letting me know I was not welcome.

I laughed. He was a whirlwind of emotions and I loved it. The paperwork seemed less daunting now and my focus was back. I mind linked with Zion.

'Kash is better and should be good to join us for dinner. Keep it few people. I do not want to overwhelm him.'

'I was just coming up to see you.'

'Is there a problem?'

I go no answer until he knocked at my door. "Come in Zion."

"First off, it still feels weird coming to your personal room. I hope you are back in the main office soon." I motioned for him to sit and he looked at me instead. "Naw, I would rather stand for this bit of news."

"Spit it out." If he was standing it was for one of two reasons. One, he felt the need he might have to run. Two, he knew he might have to calm me down.

"I got a report from out boarder that your uncle is on his way. He should arrive by dinner time tomorrow." He was watching my reaction as I looked towards Kash's door. "We have no idea what has him coming. There is no notice or letter of any kind."

"He must know about Kash. Why it would have him visit now, I really can't put together." Something told me it had to do with him, my mate.

"I believe it is in the best interest right now, that you do not allow people to know that Kash is unsure. Let them believe he is the next Luna." Zion had the same track of mind as I.

"I will speak of this to Kash. He needs to have some say in it. He is the one that would be affected most." As I was about to speak more Kash's scent and voice had me turn back towards my door.

"What is going on?" He was not smiling, but his stance told me he was not upset either.

Zion looked towards me before he spoke up. "It is a small pack matter."

Kash growled. "You promised to tell me if I am involved."

"If you let me speak Zion." I growled at him for upsetting Kash. "My uncle is coming for a visit. We do not fully trust him or his motives. He sent no word of his visit either. If he knows of you and the rumours tell him you might refuse me, well I have no idea what he would plan. He has made it known that he should be the sole ruler of the royal grounds here. He also could feel threatened of his own position if I found my mate."

Kash went through many facial expressions as I spoke. Some sad, some angry and some I was just not sure what it meant yet. He took a deep breath before he spoke. "I really am not sure yet." He then rubbed his arm while looking down. "But I do not mind if the pack thinks I am soon to be the Luna or your mate. Just do not make a big deal out of it!"

"There you have it Zion. We keep as we are and do not try to dissuade the pack. When Kash is ready he can start with some of the duties you told him about and if he wishes training for self defence." I looked back at Kash. "Thank you Kash."

"No need to get sappy."

As he stood in the doorway I wondered if he needed something. "Are you okay? Or did you need something?"

He turned red looked at Zion and stuttered. "I...I...ugh. Never mind. I just heard...umm...voices." He then turned around slamming the door behind him.

Zion chuckled. "Post heats suck I hear."

I nodded. "The in between stage for unmated. When they want comfort but are more aware and unsure how to ask for it."

"Ask him to dinner and maybe suggest a movie with just the two of you after." Zion smiled.

"Yeah. Doc has been guiding me as well. I never knew it could be so hard to try and gain trust and love by my own mate." Shaking my head, I looked back towards Zion. "To the matter at hand. We will act like we did not know he was coming. Keep everything the same. Let him think he surprised us."

"You got it boss. What about guard duty?" Zion asked this while using his head to point to Kash's room.

"The same. I will have to have Kash meet his night guard soon. At least so he knows their scent." Smiling I then grabbed the papers from my desk. "By the way beta...I finished this all. Enjoy dealing with them."

"Boss, you know just how to ruin a day." Both of us laughed as he left the room holding the stack of papers
