Chapter 4 - Gale Grimoire

But the past can be thought of on another time. For now, let's look straight ahead, into the present, and into the future.

----------------------------------------------

Cornelius walks towards the forest, into the storm. Each moment, his overcoat and his hair were blown far back, shifting and turning violently in the catastrophic wind. Under his coat was a shining suit of armour. It looked light though.

Cornelius had to pick up the pace as he got closer and closer to the forest outskirts. Oddly, the storm seems to be originating from deep within the forest, and weaker on the outside. Normally you'd expect the storm clouds to move along, but it seemed they were converging above the forest. The sky was roaring, with blue and yellow lights flickering around above. Every now and then, an arc of blinding lighting would fall onto the forest roof, and with a deafening sound, destroy the tree it fell on. Cornelius was within the forest by now. The trees were getting denser, and it was hard to walk through them. The rain was pelting against his fluttering white hair. The wind showed no sign of calming. In fact, it was worse within the forest under the canopy of trees.

This was, indeed, because infiltrators were after the A+ class magical beast, The Blue Fox, that lives in the Osnian Forest.

----------------------------------------------

The monsters in this world were separated into classes based on power and danger level.

These classes were D, C, B, A, and S. Disaster and Catastrophe class monsters were the stuff of myths, and the last Catastrophe class monsters was sighted 400 years ago, and it's existence isn't believable either. Disaster class monsters appear once every few decades, but usually an army of high class knights are dispatched to deal with them.

The Blue Fox of the Osnian Forest was an A+ Class Monster, meaning it was on the stronger end of the A Class Spectrum. But it was never to be subdued, because it is the defender of the forest. It must be known that not all monsters are evil. Many are neutral and only strike back if agitated. Some help mankind and demi-humans directly. The Blue Fox was one of them. It was a gracious existence, sometimes blessing men with magic. Its skills are unknown though. Those who fought it are long dead.

----------------------------------------------

A roar was heard, followed by loud snaps, and then loud crashes.

This wasn't the storm, this was a directed attack, thought Cornelius. With a sneer on his lips, he moved faster than ever before, disappearing into the undergrowth to see what was going on.

"COME ON OUT, FOX. OR ARE YA SCARED?!"

It was a woman yelling. Although short and slim, her curves were quite plump, noticed Cornelius. She had short blue hair, with purple stripes here and there. She had heterochromia, her left eye blue, and her right eye black. It seemed she had large claws attached to her gauntlet, for melee attacks. She was wearing regular fabric at first glance, but there was good quality chainmail under it. It seemed she was casting powerful wind magic to chop and smash down trees.

His hunch was correct. She was looking for the fox. Another thing he noticed but quickly dismissed was that she had rather noticeable fang-like teeth. Dismissing this would prove to be a mistake later.

Cornelius was not carrying a weapon, but when he held his hand back, flames started to converge. First it made the form of a ball of flame, slowly getting denser and hotter, and then, in a flash, the fireball expanded into a curved rod shape, and then dispersed. What remained was a sheathed katana.

Cornelius was a magic swordsman. He could summon magic swords to use in combat, and thus he doesn't have to carry around weapons. Magic is required to keep the existence of the summoned sword, but it's lighter and harder than msot real swords so it's more of an advantage than a problem. The magic usage was almost nothing for Cornelius. He has an ocean of magic stored within. Nearly more magic than the saviour who is to awaken.

In a sudden swift movement, without making a sound, Cornelius rushed towards the woman, from the rear. His unsheathed blade was red hot, and he went with a straight horizontal swing. Wasting no time, he'd cut the head straight off. But that wasn't proved to be so easy.

The woman turned towards him, and blocked the sword with her metal claws (from the gauntlet). She let out a sneer as she pushed Cornelius's sword away, and then prepared to fight. Cornelius smiled wickedly as well. With gleams in their eyes, rain pouring heavily, wind flowing angrily, and lights flashing in the sky, the sound of blades colliding echoed deep into the forest. Cornelius on the offensive, the woman parrying, the blade swinging so fast that it seemed there were multiple, and white sharp streaks scraped against each other between them both.

"Hello there, the name's Gale. Gale Grimoire. Let's see how long you can entertain me"

"Fufufufufu, my name is Cornelius Lucien II, and I'm sorry, but this is gonna be short and sweet"

Shifting left from the deadlock of hitting and parrying, Cornelius went in for a stab into the heart. It almost connected. But this wasn't just a fight of metal against metal. It never is.

Gale jumped up with a magic circle under here, and flew high into the sky with wind magic. She sped down, fast like an eagle going in to fish up it's lunch, and lunged at Cornelius with her left gauntlet. Cornelius defended, holding the katana with both arms, barely able to stand in place.

A heated battle was about to start.

----------------------------------------------

In the depth of the forest, far away from the sounds of the battle, stood a man. Tall and muscular. He had curly red hair with purple stripes here and there. His left eye was red, and his right eye was black.

He raised his hand, and then lighting fell, destroying the tree infront of him.

In a whisper, he said

"come out now.… Foxy.…"
