Ojero was walking down the hall, when he saw a very familiar blonde haired girl walking near him. He tried to ignore her, but she clearly did not get the hint as once she noticed him she walked over to talk to him.
"Heya Ojero! How has your day been?"
Ojero sighed in his mind.
'How could I meet someone so many times in one day?'
"Are you also on your way to Combat Duels? It's my last class of the day!" She said.
"It is also mine. What a coincidence." Ojero replied calmly.
However, on the inside he was wondering who the hell assigned the student lists? To share 5 classes with one person would be such a low probability, Ojero just couldn't understand it.
"It is indeed strange, master, however I believe that this may just be a coincidence. Let us push forward cautiously to confirm the harmlessness in this arrangement."
Ojero agreed with the Night Demon, and just kept on walking, trying his hardest to ignore the girl who was practically skipping down the hall beside him.
They soon arrived at the classroom door. It was covered with paintings of ancient duelists, weapons, and mages casting spells.
Inside the room was a giant rectangular stage that raised a few feet above the floor. On the floor to one side of it were a few rows of chairs, and on the other side were racks of various weapons and scrolls.
The teacher was a middle aged woman standing in the center of the stage, who had brown curly hair and red eyes. Her eyes instantly gave away her magic; summoning.
Summoners and Necromancers' eyes change colors after they summon creatures enough times. The residual energy from the domains they summon from can affect their body, but strangely enough it doesn't do anything but change the eye color.
"It can happen to Necromancers too, master. Your eyes shall change to dark blue, purple, and then black as you progress, much like a summoner's change from yellow to orange and then red."
'So one day my eyes will change to? Interesting.'
He didn't let the implication that this woman was a very powerful summoner due to her eyes being fully red. It meant she had grown to be of the highest strength in terms of a summoner.
Soon everyone funneled into the classroom, and Ojero noticed Orpham among them. He hadn't seen his brother all day, and here he was.
However, Ojero noticed Orpham didn't seem to know he was there, as he kept talking to that Karina girl from yesterday, who was also in this class.
'Figures, day one and he has already found friends to socialize with. They will only take away from his growth. Without growth, he will only lose.'
Once everyone was inside, the professor spoke.
"Welcome all new students to Lumenbecs Academy. I shall be your combat teacher this year. I only ask for you to give your best, and you shall be rewarded. In this class, we do fight each other. However, if you attempt to seriously injure or kill your fellow student, you will be either expelled or jailed depending on the severity of your crimes."
"For those of you who are worried, nobles are not exempt. All, rich or poor, are judged equally in the eyes of justice here at Lumenbecs. Remember this well, and you may excel in life."
"My name is Professor Leah, and today we shall begin with me estimating your talent through a basic mock battle. I will have my summon watch over your duel. It excels in damage negation, making any attack you use only do illusionary damage, stimulating the person's nerves for a small amount of pain without actually losing limbs or getting cut."
The professor then started making strange signs in the air, as her red eyes grew brighter. Sweat started to appear on her forehead as the students saw how obviously she struggled.
"Ah, she is only a red Summoner. I was told they are the weakest." One student commented.
Others around him started agreeing, but Ojero was confused.
'Didn't you say Summoners with red eyes were the strongest?'
"They are, master. This world has little knowledge of them as most lower rank summoners die due to summoning a creature that takes too much energy, therefore killing them. This is why although Summoners are ranked at rare, almost all of them die unless they are Ethereal or above."
"This lack of knowledge has led to people assuming a Summoner's power based on appearance alone, master. I doubt most of these students' families have ever seen a Summoner."
'Ah, so it is their own arrogance that leads to this ignorance. I should have known.'
Soon, a red and orange rift opened in front of the Professor, and out from it came a small fox that was made of glass.
It's ears and tail were both just long jagged pieces of glass, and its fur was glass needles. It looked both beautiful and deadly, but Ojero took a step back for a very different reason.
"Be careful, master. This is a lord class summon. I would estimate it was at the mythic level. This must be why she had struggled in its summoning."
'I have seen multiple mythic class beasts recently, are they really all that rare?'
"They are, master. It would be considered great luck to see one in a year, let alone multiple. I suspect multiple forces have begun consolidating their powers. This world may become very interesting soon."
"This is a Reflective Fox, a rare creature that can do what I previously mentioned. It will watch over the fight and keep both contestants safe. You are allowed to use whatever you know, but if anything seems to be used to kill you shall still be punished!"
"For the first round, I call both Ojero and Orpham Guestino to the stage. Let's see the brothers fight!"
At the mention of Ojero's name, Orpham looked around, and saw Ojero standing near the other side of the room looking back.
Ojero was smiling, and was thrilled on the inside for having a chance to test his skills, but Orpham was worried. He thought he was above average for a new student, and didn't want to hurt his brother.
'I guess I will go easy on him and let him win, it'll help him get more popular!'
With this goal in mind, Orpham proudly marched up to the stage, followed soon by Ojero. They stood on opposite ends, with the Reflective Fox standing near the middle on the edge.
The Professor then raised her arm, and when she let it drop she yelled out.
"Begin!"
