That day it was pretty boring. She did nothing. The next day… her mother-in-law asked her to wake up early and pray to god. She did as she was asked. She was asked to make breakfast by her mother-in-law. She didn't object to her but did as she was asked.
She knew her father-in-law was a diabetic and her mother-in-law had joint pains and thyroid. So, she made food according to their health and tastes. But she didn't find Rahul anywhere. After she finished cooking, she set the table. She served her in-laws and others. But she didn't serve herself. Her neck didn't stay in one place. It turned three sixty degrees. Seeing her searching for someone, her sister-in-law asked curiously "Vadina (Sister-in-law), whom you are searching for?"
"I didn't see Rahul in the morning. Also, he worked the whole day. I am wondering if he had a problem. He even skipped lunch and didn't eat anything last night apart from the milk. And now he is not here for breakfast. I don't want him to skip meals" Laya said.
She didn't even realize that she said that at the dining table. Everyone who was sitting there was stunned. They didn't expect her to notice this much. Her mother-in-law was the one who was surprised the most.
Early this morning, her son came to her and said that he wanted to enjoy time with his wife. Also, the addition of a child would kill their time together. He gave her a lecture not to meddle with their matters. He also said that he would move to Chennai. If she continued to cause trouble, he would leave tomorrow by not giving a single damn to traditions.
"Vadina, how do you know he is in trouble?" Her sister-in-law asked. "He was tense last night," Laya said. Her head was still making three-sixty-degree turns, but still, she couldn't find his shadow.
Laya was disappointed. Only with his presence, she felt assured. His presence made her feel that she had someplace here. Even though she gave him a cold shoulder, she didn't mean it. She turned her head and looked at the people in the dining area. She was stunned. She spoke too much!
"Sorry! I spoke too much! Please continue to have food!" Laya said and apologized immediately.
Her father-in-law smiled at her. When he saw the food, he was amused. "How do you know about my diet?" He asked.
"I heard you are diabetic. So, I made it according to that and your taste. As for my mother-in-law, I heard she has joint pains. My mom also has joint pains. So, I know what they should eat" she said and kept a plate in front of her.
She didn't serve food for herself. When she was about to serve food for herself, she heard the doorbell ring. She immediately sprinted there. She was hoping for Rahul's return. So she thought it was Rahul and ran over there. And indeed it's Rahul!! She threw herself in his arms.
"Where did you go? I missed you. Next time tell me before you go somewhere, okay?" She said as she whined.
Rahul didn't expect this from her. A big hug from his wife when he returned home, this was something he dreamed of. He kissed her forehead.
"I will!" He said and hugged her and changed his shoes.
"Breakfast is just served. Wash your hands and come" she said.
He nodded at her. "Why are you nodding? Go wash your hands!" She said as she guided him to the washbasin. He washed his hands. He saw there was no towel to wipe his hands. A beautiful frown formed on his forehead. Laya smiled and gave her saree frill to wipe. After wiping his hands, Rahul rubbed his face in her neck.
Laya slapped his hand. "Behave!!" She threatened.
"I made breakfast today. Don't you wanna taste it?" She asked as she winked. Rahul frowned.
"What happened to the cook or maid?" He asked.
"I don't know. Mother-in-law asked me to do it. So, I did." Laya said as she shrugged.Rahul understood what his mother was trying to do. He settled on his seat. Laya served food for him as a little obedient wife. But Rahul was dissatisfied.
"Where are maids? Why is everyone absent?" He asked. And most likely it was because of his mother.
"I gave them aleave since Laya entered our family. She has to do the household chores" his mother said.
Laya was stunned at her mother-in-law's words. How did she offend her that she had to listen to all this? Or was she like a Hindi serial bad mother-in-law who shows her authority on their daughter-in-law? But she couldn't do anything even if she wanted to. After all, her mother-in-law held the power. Rahul smirked at her.
"Oh! Laya, I forgot, We are going to leave for Chennai as our new branch is going to open in a few months from now," he said.
"Why didn't you tell me before? I would have made a sweet!!" She asked excitedly.
"Wait, don't get excited," he said as he patted her head. His actions stunned everyone. He was so gentle to her, unlike his cold demeanor. "I have to leave. I will have to move to Chennai. So, I will be leaving tomorrow. Maybe we will also settle there. I arranged the flight ticket too" Rahul said.
"You didn't tell me about this?" Laya asked feeling disappointed. "I got the updates today's morning itself. A deal came to our branch. So we need to fasten things earlier and we need staff immediately. And I, being the CEO, have to go there. Eat quickly. We have to go out after this. I have to introduce you to my friends before we leave" Rahul said and Laya nodded.
After she was done eating. She was about to clean dishes and clear the table, suddenly Rahul said "Laya, we are running late. Get ready!! Let the others do the work. Come and help me look out some things," Rahul said.
Her mother-in-law threw a glare at Laya, by looking at which Laya didn't even dare to go. Harish Chandra saw his wife's behavior and shook his head. "Beta, go and help him. That guy gets angry easily," her father-in-law said.
