RB Chapter 54 Mother
"My son! What a weird word...son! I never thought that one day I would want to create progeny, and most of all not of my race/species. Truly odd!"
"In this message, I want to leave you with a way to get stronger. It is a little bit related to the three known ways, Cellular rearrangement, Energy channeling, and filling in those genetic slots."
Eric was listening attentively.
"The method I want to talk about is polishing the will, or in scientific terms, controlling and increasing the power of your brain waves. But that can only be done by someone with a powerful will!"
"In this world such people do exist...not just people but also among us beasts. Some cities in the other continents discovered it but its being kept under wraps...anyway, let's go on to more important things. How does gaining control of your brain waves affect the other three methods of powering up I introduced before..."
"In the case of energy channeling, brain waves play the role of smoother communications with the cells. Right now, most people and beasts which have managed to master energy channeling, are only doing it via instincts, in other words, vaguely issuing orders to the cells. But with the usage of brain waves, a person can gain greater control of the process called energy channeling. You will discover more when you manage the feat."
"For molecular rearrangement, hmm...in your city currently, no one can do that. Its actually rare worldwide. It was discovered through material science. For example, carbon atoms can be arranged to form the lighter graphene, but also the harder diamond. It works on such a principle. If you pursue defence, you can order your skin cells to arrange themselves in such a way, that its possible to defend against a sword with bare skin. But it requires tremendous calculations by the brain. Its mostly impossible under normal circumstances! I won't elaborate on genetic slots as that is prevalent in your city."
"Hoo...that was long! But anyway, what I want to tell you is simple..."
The voice paused at this point. Eric had a feeling that it was going to say something serious. Right now he was still grappling with the fact that he had a mother, not of the human species. Even though there was only a voice and no visible representation, he felt as if he could feel her closeby.
'I have a mother! I want to meet her!' Such thoughts were running around in his mind. Though he didn't miss any of the words that the voice was saying.
"...polish your will and take control of your brain waves!" After a pause, the words reverberated in the white space.
"You must do it fast! You will ultimately run into such beings! Even though its slow, some beasts and humans in this continent have managed to master the art of brain wave control."
"Anyway, my son, we shall meet in due time, the time of this memory is coming to an end."
"Wha...!?" That woke him up from his Muddleheadedness.
"Mom...!?" That word naturally escaped his lips. He felt as if something was squeezing his heart, tears were threatening to fall.
'Finally, I have family in this world, family which cares about me. But didn't even know where to find her.'
"Where...where...can I find you?" His voice was choking.
As if answering his question, yet not exactly, the voice, which was causing turmoil in his mind said...
"If you want to meet me, wait for that in my second voice memory. Though, that will have a few surprises!" The voice chuckled at the end. The laugh was tinged with excitement, like it couldn't wait!
Eric felt his eyes becoming blurry.
"What is happening?" A voice finally managed to make it out of his throat.
"Till we meet again, my son." The voice said.
"No no no no nooooo..." That was all he could shout out before the white space collapsed causing him to open his eyes.
At first, everything was blurry, then, a concrete ceiling entered his view.
"Why are you crying?" Elec's voice made its way into his ears.
"Did you manage to secure the prey?" That was the first question he asked and used his bare arm to wipe away his tears. He was trying to change the topic.
"That was two days ago! We already secured the chicken!"
"You should be grateful to my father, he saved your life. You were on the brink of death! It was a hectic two days. Your energy was overdrawn on top of being hungry! That was a deadly combination! Since you were out cold we couldn't make you chew, now, could we? So we gave you blood." Elec looked like he was complaining.
"The chicken wasn't enough, so father had to hunt a rhino. He gave you the blood but refused the meat from going to me. He said, "Elec, this is an emergency, I don't see any injuries in you.", but I, too was starving! I had to survive on chicken eggs!"
"This is a trial after all." Eric answered absentmindedly.
'Was that really my mother?' He felt his heart swell when he remembered the affectionate way the voice had said, "my son."
"Why are you having that silly grin on your face?" Elec shouted.
"Hah!" Eric hurriedly clamped his hand on his mouth.
'I was smiling?'
"Are you even following what I am telling you? Good thing the chicken had eggs. I have been surviving on them waiting for you to wake up." Elec continued his tirade.
'Someone or some life form out there is my mother, and she cares about me! Otherwise there's no way she would leave such memories in my mind! I must meet her!' That thought took root and spread like ink in water in his mind.
"What?" When Eric abruptly stood up, Elec took a step back and asked. His voice shaking. He had seen the intense side of Eric the other day and he didn't want it to be aimed at him. He had been terrified! Eric had disregarded his injuries and killed the chicken!
After Baguma had caught him...of course, Elec was shocked by him simply popping up out of nowhere, Eric's blood red eyes which had stayed open even when he lost consciousness had caused a chill in his bones. The image of those eyes had been seared in his mind. He couldn't get rid of it even now!
"But I don't know where she is and also she didn't leave any clue on how to awaken the next memory." Eric's mumbles entered Elec's ears.
"Wha...what are you mumbling about?" A tremble was in his voice but he was forcing himself to act as if nothing was amiss.
"Nothing"
'Why is he scared of me?...how come there are no lasting damages or pain on my body?' He wondered as he spread his arms, bent in all weird positions and twisted his neck.
'Its like the injuries were a dream!' He marveled.
"MY father is the one you have to thank for you being able to keep your life." Elec emphasized the word.
"We need to go hunt!" Eric acted as if he hadn't heard anything.
'I must get stronger in the meantime. She gave me clues. I must be able to control my brainwaves if I want to become truly strong!' He was pumped up!
Someone out there loved him and wanted him to get stronger! That alone was enough to give him endless energy.
--------
'The boy seems to have recovered. Mmm! That's good!' Somewhere, only Eric might be able to detect with his all spectrum eyes, a figure was hidden, Baguma!
He had been watching over the boys as they hid in this building he had found. It was the building with the least damages in the nearby area.
'I felt something, like a different brain signature in his mind. I wonder what that is! This boy has a few secrets! What is that creature plotting! He lied to me that the boy was the key to me getting stronger! I must watch him closely!' A flash of electricity passed through his blue eyes.
-------
It was midday, almost the same time that they had hunted that chicken.
"Too bad I missed out on the chicken!" Eric grumbled as he stood out in the sun. He had first checked if any beasts were nearby ofcourse.
"I couldn't hunt alone." Elec defended himself.
"You are hopeless! You will stay a weakling forever!" Eric wasn't happy about that.
(My...babies!)
"Hmmm? Did you hear something?" Eric asked.
"No, I didn't hear anything."
"It must be my ima...wait! I heard this voice when I was on the verge of losing consciousness!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Could it have been the bird? But how can the voice still be heard even now? Besides, the bird didn't seem like the talking sort." Eric was truly puzzled.
"You are sure you don't hear a female voice shouting, "My...Babies!"?" Eric asked.
"No, are you going crazy?"
"Then, could it be in my mind?"
TRIVIA
Willpower; something in this world that is hard to fathom. But in certain situations, humans and sometimes beasts, can erupt with it.
