Chereads / A Gift From Tomorrow / Chapter 3 - Left Alone

Chapter 3 - Left Alone

"cough-cough" Alan was surprised, "what happened?" Alan said frantically, after a few seconds of thinking, he came to his senses, he remembered everything, the howling skull gang attack, the screams of the victims, all the gunpowder smell that filled the air, his sister's death, and…..AND REX!

"Where's Rex!?, REX WHERE ARE YOU?!" he called frantically while looking left and right, "Arghhhh," Alan said in pain, his left leg was broken, "Rex?" said Alan as he kept looking until his eyes caught the image of a body lying limply on the ground, "Rex, is that you?" said Alan as he approached the body, and when he was certain of what he saw, Alan rushed over to Rex, "Rex? Are you okay?" said Alan while holding Rex's head, his condition continued to worsen, his breath hitched, "Alan ... listen to me," Rex said quietly,

"Calm down, we'll find help first," Alan said calming Rex, although to be honest, Alan was very panicked, he tried to get up, but he was restrained by Rex, "Listen to me….it's useless to seek help…we are alone…." Rex's words made Alan realize that they are alone, the world in which they live isn't a beautiful world like so many years ago, where humans help each other, humanitarian agencies provide rescue missions, the world has changed, they are alone now.

Alan began to cry, "calm down son....you must realize, that in this world, no one will save you, except yourself, no one will fight for you, except yourself," said Rex, "the world we live in is a cruel world, but believe me, there will come a time when we rebuild civilization and rise from adversity, and I really believe, that time is near," said Rex smiling, "I don't understand Rex! I don't understand what you're talking about, everything is so new to me…" Alan said desperately, "The Prime Orb…you remember what Guthrum said?" asked Rex, catching his breath,

"Yes..." said Alan, trying to hold back tears, "in the box you're are holding, there is a orb, a technology that has been forgotten, your father and I believe the orb is the key to resurrecting the lost human civilization, your father and I found it in an old bunker. …go, find a way to open the box, and you will find the answers to all the questions you have…" Rex said trying to explain, his breath shortened, "but… I'm still weak Rex! I won't be able to!" said Alan, "practice, the world, and experience are the best teachers..." said Rex, his eyes getting sleepy, "one more thing Alan...don't let the box fall into the wrong hands, your father and I believe in you," said Rex weakly,

"Rex! Don't go yet," said Alan again crying, "Alan...I want to go home...I'm sleepy" said Rex. "Good night..." Rex said, losing consciousness

"Rex?… Rex?!…please don't joke….." Alan said while crying

"Lyla….Rex…..DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE!!!" shouted Alan in his despair

**********

Alan carried Rex's corpse on his back, his small body was tired, in such despair, his tears flowed with the rain, "why....why is the world so cruel...why did everything have to change...why?" Alan asked in his heart, filled with anger, tightness, grudge, despair, and all the questions.

He buried Rex's body somewhere, then made a rock formation resembling a statue, "Rex…." He said, imagining himself chatting with Rex, "when I succeed, I want to come back here, and tell you everything….I owe you one," Alan said sobbing, trying to hold back his tears, "Thank you…for everything" Alan replied unable to hold back his tears.

It was raining heavily, like Alan's heart was filled with sadness, For Alan, this was the first time, he felt the world was this cold.

Alan went away from there, he stayed away, went north, he tried not to meet people if they weren't needed, he tried to reach the government capital, hoping to get help

After days of traveling, he came to that wall, the great wall, the city inside of which was called "capital de elite" or elite capital, when he tried to see whether things were safe or not, he saw a heartbreaking condition.

"GET OFF ALL OF YOU, HANDS UP ON YOUR HEAD!" shouted a soldier, he looked scary, "you think poor immigrants like you can come here? You will only pollute the capital!" shouted the soldier savagely, "but we just need a place to stay sir" said a man, "SILENCE! If you don't, I'll shoot you in the head," another soldier snapped, pointing a gun at the man.

Alan couldn't help but be scared, he didn't expect the government soldiers to be this cruel.

"If you really want to go in, you have to pay 600 gelds," said the soldier harshly,

"that's very expensive sir," complained an immigrant,

JDUGH

The soldier's shoe hit the immigrant's face, "who told you to be poor, go away, you are not welcome here" the soldier said harshly, telling all the immigrants to leave.

"But sir…"

"IF YOU DON'T GO ON ON THE COUNT OF FIVE, YOU WILL ALL BE SHOT, 1…..2….3…..4…" the soldier snapped.

All the immigrants immediately ran frantically.

"5! KILL THEM ALL!" shouted a soldier, followed by a barrage of automatic weapons and arrows.

The immigrants who survived immediately fled, as well as Alan, he was very scared, "they were very cruel" Alan said still in fear, the night had started to come, Alan just went with the immigrant group, he was quite familiar with them, someone among them too turned out to be a former soldier, but in another area.

"What happened? Why did you leave the army?" asked Alan curiously, "our city was attacked and overrun by gang members, the government didn't provide any assistance at all, I was one of the survivors, we went to the capital because we thought the soldiers would be as friendly as they used to be in our city, in fact, we were betrayed ..." replied Alfred, the ex-soldier.

"I'm sorry," said Alan concernedly, "what about you? why are you alone?" asked Alfred,

"My village was also massacred by gang members ..." Alan answered slowly, "I'm looking for shelter too," said Alan continued, "Hmmmm then just come with us, you will be very welcome here," Alfred replied warmly.

A few days later they found an abandoned school, the electricity and water systems were still on, plus the school had a wall that could be used as a guard wall.

"This place is perfect!" said Lisa, a young immigrant, "yes, the place is also big," said another immigrant. They then prepared the place as well as possible, after a month later, the place was ready, but there is still one problem, even know the electrical systems is in good shape, but the fuel was empty.

"We need Photon cells for power generator," someone said, before the great war, human understanding of nuclear has reached the ability to manipulate atoms into energy, without using traditional methods.

"Hmm looks like we have to look for it at the power station or laboratory," said Alfred. "If I'm not mistaken, not far from here, there is a power plant, how about we check?" Alan suggested, "Hmmm good idea," said another. That night Alan, Alfred, and several other people went to the power plant to take some of the available photon cells, they just took a few, because one 500ml photon cell is enough for 5 years, so you don't need many.

After a long walk, they arrived at the power plant, "Sssshhh, don't make noise, weapons tight," said Alfred, everyone nodded. Everyone is on standby with their weapons, Alfred is on standby with his laser sword, and Alan is on standby with the titanium blade he found yesterday.

After taking a few photon cells, they came out, "wait Fred," said Alan, "we aren't alone", pointing to two shadows approaching them, everyone was hiding, holding their breath, but they were relieved when the two shadows left them

"Fyuuh" said one from Alan's group.

Maybe they could be relieved, but when they reached the gate, they were confronted by two armed men, "wow, where are you guys going?" said someone while holding his sword, "it seems they are quite surprised boss, eheheheh" said another holding a baseball bat, "who are you?!" said Alfred,

"oh us?, I'm Tom, and this is Billy, hand over your photon cell!" said Tom while pointing his sword, "you guys find another exit..I'll handle them," Alfred said, "me too," Alan said wanting to help, "are you serious?" said Alfred smiling, "don't underestimate me old man, I'm a big boy," said Alan proudly, "you're only 13 years old stupid, don't be arrogant," Alfred said chuckling, "huh, just see," Alan said annoyed.

"Hmm, looks like there's a little entertainment for us boss," said Billy, "I'll fight the old man, you fight the little boy," Tom ordered, "OK" Billy replied. An exciting battle ensued

"Heaa" shouted billy as he swung his baseball bat,

DUGH...TRANKK

The sound of iron and laser clashing, the battle getting hotter,

"For your size, the power of your punch is very soft" Alan mocked, "shut up you little boy!" Billy said angrily, he swung his baseball bat at Alan, but Alan easily dodged, then Alan attacked but was caught by Billy, "Heheheh, your attack is weaker kid," Billy said mockingly, "You don't deserve to hold that knife" said Billy. Billy, "Really?" said Alan, then he kicked Billy's leg and pushed his knife into Billy's stomach

"AKKHHH" Billy said in pain, then fell to the ground

"BILLY! Not!" shouted Tom in surprise, "FUCK"

SRASHH

Alfred's sword slashed Tom's back

BRUG

Tom's body fell lifeless, he died

"Fyuhh, it's finally over, let's go back to school," Alfred said casually, "you don't want to say anything?" said Alan,

"Okay okay, you're strong, you're great," Alfred said while stroking Alan's head.

They both went back to school and found their friends who had arrived earlier, "you guys are so slow" someone said, "yes that's it .." Alfred said with a lazy face, "how are they? are they strong?" asked another, "not really, even Alan managed to beat one of them alone," said Alfred, pointing at Alan.

After they installed the photon cell, the electricity came back on, "isn't it beautiful?" said Alfred, "yes" said Alan smiling, "hey Alfred," said Alan, "would you like to train me to use the sword and other skills such as computers and others?" asked Alan

"Of course," said Alfred shortly, "but invite the others too, don't be stingy about knowledge, okay?" Alfred said, "yes of course," said Alan excitedly, "when do we start?" continue Alan can't wait,

"Of course tomorrow," Alfred said with a yawn, "I'm sleepy, bye," he said leaving Alan, Alan just smiled, for him all that was enough, "Rex…Dad and Lyla, wait for me, I will become stronger than anyone, I promise," said Alan optimistically
