Chapter 6 - Conquered by money

Rufus was keeping an eye on the construction and expansion of the arsenal and shipyard on Loren's east coast. If someone had told him three years ago that he would be overseeing the business of his new granddaughter and that he would also be enjoying large profits, he would not have believed it.

Cedric accompanied Sunday to each region surrounding Loren and remote regions of other continents or cities abandoned by the hand of God, to win over the leaders and locals. Sweet promises of change and wealth, encouraged alliances and contracts with the Pontiac Butterfly company that was slowly taking over everything it saw behind the backs of kings and emperors.

It never occurred to anyone to treat foreigners or neighboring tribes due to the prevailing xenophobia, until Sunday took the initiative to play against. A month after finishing settling in Loren and purchasing the entire port, they traveled across the sea to establish a business relationship with the tribes and the pirate king in Velmont.

They gave them an offer for the majority stake in the shipyards and free entry to Loren. Although Chieftain Wang accepted with the promise of being treated as equals and free to transit or trade, the pirate king Bane doubted and even treated Cedric stupid by intimidating him to leave his ship if he did not wish for death.

Greater was Bane's surprise when he refused to come down and instead let Sunday finish the deal. The girl she spoke as someone who knew about the subject and considered all the points to negotiate. Every word made him rethink if he was missing the best opportunity of his life.

-In my lands in addition to building and repairing boats, your people will be welcomed as free citizens. They will not be pirates but rather employees who provide services for Pontiac Butterfly. They will also be able to continue robbing the unwary on the high seas to finance construction and its excesses, without being questioned-

-It sounds too crazy. Isn't Loren under the Rubins royal regime? -

-Being considered a land without law or owner, dreamers like us are forced to encourage others to want to be part of this great wealth machine. The Rubins do not paint their shadow in this game-

-Heh! You just want my people to manufacture metal-mechanical structures to produce their own line of military and commercial ships. In return you give me half the control of the arsenal and the shipyards so that in the future it ends up in my hands ... interesting-

-No one has told me no, except you. Distrust is natural but I hope you will reconsider that by joining us you can advance to annihilate your enemies with the best and most destructive weapon in the world-

-And what is that wonderful weapon that you boast about? -

-Money.-

Sunday handed Bane the contract for the ports, giving him full ownership and control in ten years at the latest. The pirates anchored in the other ships awaited the final decision of their king. Bane realized that the brain behind it all was the girl sitting across from him. Without hesitation, he attended and with that the maritime alliance for control of the 5 seas of the world was formed.

The citizens of Loren watched the arrival of various boats from which picturesque and even strange characters were descending. The foreigners had come to stay.

The insults and complaints did not take long but when Cedric got off the ship he exclaimed that there were jobs for those who wanted to earn money and that they should do it together with foreigners without complaining. A mockery spread among poor people who refused to believe such a statement but when they heard the lower salary amount they were speechless.

They offered 2 gold coins per week to those who worked in the city's building reform and in the reconstruction of the port, the usual amount being two months of work in other places. The more intelligent or literate the worker was, the higher their wages would be and everyone would have the benefit of an annual increase according to their work.

Loren's population exploded when they learned that even the smallest would have jobs as delivery helpers or cadets.

The second step has already been taken. Sunday smirks creepily while Cedric averted his gaze to avoid another discomfort.

In just over a year, the city of Loren was transformed into something unrecognizable.

A hospital, a school and an academy were inaugurated thanks to the workers who worked day and night when they were told that these buildings would be for public use.

The tribes settled with stalls in a market that they created to supply the population. Their harvests were possible with the lands given to pay for 30 years by the Pontiacs, who in addition to financing their properties, gave them various loans.

Loren's business was activated by the arrival of ships whose passengers were attracted from other port countries due to rumors spread by pirates. Everything was going as the Pontiacs expected.

She included in her plans the local mob bosses who had made fun of the port purchase project in the beginning. Sunday gave them the construction plans for an area of casinos and motels where they could do their dirty business out of sight, in return, she put them to work for the city, warning of intruders or anyone who dared to break into the construction, to change from letting them control an underworld created especially for them.

They kept buying more and more land in silence but for Sunday it was just the beginning.

She was unhappy with the little business, she was determined to show all nations who Pontiacs really were.

-We must monopolize more of the market, look for other alternatives. With the current ones they are not enough, it is not worth competing, but we must focus on presenting something different and innovative-

-What do you suggest, miss?

-We must create trends. For example, clothes and food. These rags are not comfortable and much less useful for work. As for food, we must put speed and price first.

-We'll call a designer from the capital ...-

-Do not. Go call the local seamstresses and a few hopefuls with groundbreaking ideas. We will start from those bases and we will take it to a vote with the committee. With the subject of food, do the same.

-Yes, Miss-

-Excuse me miss, you have a letter from Bane & Co. The president requests a meeting next week to define the distribution of the docks-

-That's another thing that bothers me. Call Jasper Philips and ask him to bring the sketches and blueprints for him. At the latest we must establish the use of the telephone and the radio, I will not continue waiting-

Sunday's orders were absolute and unquestionable. Her knowledge surpassed that of an ordinary child to the point that they doubted she was eight years old. Doors inside, she was her brain and outside, her father and her grandfather showed their faces to simulate before the public.

For Loren, the Pontiac family was the only one who seemed to care about the situation of the most disadvantaged. The townspeople spoke highly of them, especially Miss Sunday.

They saw her as an angel who went to the market or walked through the city like a neighbor's daughter, accompanying her younger brother and her mother while she greeted everyone. Who would doubt such a beautiful and educated girl? Only the members of the committee.

For them it was more than obvious that under that facade of a good and diligent girl was the most cruel and ambitious person they ever knew; the owner and mistress of the future multinational conglomerate Pontiac Butterfly.
