"BAM!!"
That's what I expect to hear, but it doesn't. Instead, Hugo dodged the punch in the last second and countered with a kick in the gut, putting some distance between the two. Hugo corrects the slight gap in his guard and prepares himself for the next clash.
His thick forearms cover most of his bloody mangled face even so I can still see the glow of his crimson pupils, the glow of his empathy. Boosted by his spiritual energy it surpasses being a feeling and spreads to his five senses showing him a clear image of people's intentions. The man can basically see the future!
He says it's only faint shadows, but it'll become stronger with him with at him,
The gorilla starts glowing as all her veins fill up with spiritual energy, boosting every part of her being. She then dashes forward, but Hugo is unfazed at her rapid advance. She punches, but Hugo dodges again and counter attacks with a punch of his own, using her momentum from leaning into her punch against her.
"Crack."
I hear the sound of her jaw dislocating followed by the gorilla-like girl hulks out. She starts a volley of lightning-fast, powerful punches, but none faze him. Every strike is either dodged, redirected by him all the while he finds openings to counterattack using her wild momentum.
It draws on and injuries start racking up on the gorilla's body. Hugo's knuckles however aren't doing so good either. Using her own momentum seems to have put quite some stress on his spiritual energy-less fists.
Suddenly, the girl's right arm gives off a bright glow, as a long flaming sword of light materializes around her forearm. Oh no, that's a spiritual technique!
The sword swings down releasing a bright flash and blowing hot air onto the audience, forcing me to close my eyes.
When I open my eyes, I see that Brother Jidan holding her arm a few centimeters from Hugo's face.
"That would have killed him, Deva. You're disqualified."
He walks over to Hugo and raises his arm.
"The winner is Hugo Dawn!"

In the infirmary, I feel my pain start to subside.
That woman called that bone readjustment, but that was pure, agonizing torture. Lying on my assigned bed I can finally move without torturous pain.
Reminder to self: never fuck with Bloodrain when injured.
I pry myself off my bed after all I got to get ready for my fight. While Hansen told me it is pushed to give me time there has to be a limit as to how long they can wait.
My legs drag my hurting body to the door past the sleeping Hugo and gorilla whose name I am Deva, I think. Their fight was insane, Hugo used up so much spiritual energy maintaining his empathy that he immediately collapsed after the fight.
Hansen said that if the unique talent Hugo awakens is suitable to his empathy then his potential will be endless.
I really do wonder what he and I will awaken. For now, however, I have more important worries.
I leave the infirmary for the backyard, and I tread through the snow up to brother Hansen, seated on beach stools in the patio with the other teachers and Father Hendrickson.
As they view and talk about the fights I interrupt them.
"Um, Brother Hansen you told me to check in with you after I recovered."
"Oh yes Alex, I just wanted to tell you that once you come back the next fight will be yours. So, get ready quickly. Fred seems to be almost done."
"Ok thank you, Brother."
With a slight bow, I excuse myself from the teachers viewing the fight and sipping their Pina Coladas.
The drinks are not really Pina Coladas, but metaphorically they are. These adults are having way too much fun watching six to ten-year-olds beat the shit out of each other.
I head to my arena to do my warm-up while half heatedly watching Fred's fight.
He's currently fighting a tall, lanky second-grader who's bombarding him with swift kicks putting him completely on the defensive. He's releasing his spiritual energy chaotically into his body, it seems like he hasn't reached the mid-stage yet.
The best part of it all is that one of the kicks even shaved on a patch of skin on top of his head. There is going to be a bald patch in the psycho's brown hair now.
"Hehehe."
Serves you right, I walked around with that chocolate milk burn for more than a week.
I continue with my stretches as Fred continues to get clobbered. As much as the sight amuses me I know he is going to win.
The dude's a snake, at four years old he already bent all the big dudes on the playground to his will using trickery and deceit. He likely has a trick prepared for this fight too.
I focus back on my warm-up as the fight continues, and before long it concludes after the opponent relaxes after seemingly knocking Fred out.
He wasn't really unconscious however and used the moment where the exhausted lanky dude relaxed to catch to release a bunch of spiritual energy into himself and catch his opponent in a kneebar. He breaks his leg with it and concludes the fight for real.
