Chapter 1 - Prolog

Cold...

It feels so cold... but why do I feel calm?

The water is very cold.

Her eyes were tightly shut, and her legs were bent. She hugged her legs tightly.

The sound of water bubbles flashed through her ears. She could faintly hear someone calling her name. But she didn't care and still drowned herself in the big bathtub.

Her lungs felt like they were about to explode. Don't know how long Jane held her breath in the bathtub.

"I can do it..." Jane thought to herself.

"I can... I can do it." She thought again, even though there was a big bubble that just came out of his mouth.

Jane's mind began to imagine something.

In front of her suddenly there was an image of a man she knew very well.

His black hair and brown eyes can amaze Jane, even though she had not seen the many years.

A black woman with super curly hair just opened the bathroom door. Both of her eyeballs moved fast when she saw her best friend was drowning herself in the water.

"Huh? Come on, Jane? I called you many times." Mia said, annoyed. She patted Jane's shoulder firmly.

Jane immediately straightened up, her face red as she breathed deeply and slowly. She immediately glanced at the clock on the side of the bathtub.

"Mia...not three minutes yet? Why have you surprised me." Jane said, a little annoyed, but Mia didn't care.

"Don't try anything weird and scary. You always make me think if you want to suicide?" Mia asked and took a towel for Jane.

"Hurry up! There's something I want to talk to you about." Mia's orders.

"What? Another assignment? You said ... these two days are my days off... I'm tired. I've been accompanying that pervert all night... luckily he's drunk heavily. So I can escape from him." Jane replied as she got up from the bath and put on her towel coat.

Mia no longer listened to Jane, who still wanted to continue her complaints. She had quickly left the bathroom and moved to the living room.

Jane's hair is still wet. She let it down. The woman was still wearing her towel coat as she sat on the edge of the window.

An apartment that she has lived in for the past two years. She stares at the morning streets that are looking deserted.

She is watching the pedestrians enjoying the light rain while looking for a place to take shelter.

Mia is in Jane's kitchen.

She is making hot chocolate for her and Jane.

"Jane? There is one more assignment. Last night Mr. Halliwell was pleased with the results of your work. But tonight, he still needs your help. The pay is great and after this, we can take a month's vacation.

Mia pours hot water into two white mugs that already contain cocoa powder then she stirs it slowly.

"How? Come on, this isn't bad, a month's vacation. Free from all work." Said Mia, who approached Jane, who was still looking at something from behind the window.

"You want it, don't you?" Mia asked as she held out a glass of hot chocolate for Jane.

"What are you looking at? You look so serious, Jane?" Finally, Mia realized the strange behavior of Jane.

"Rain? and that man." Point Jane outside.

"A man? What man?" Mia asked curiously but had not found the man Jane was referring to.

"That's the one sitting in one of the coffee shops. The one in the gray hoodie." Jane was excited.

"Wow... Yes, I saw him. He's quite handsome, tall, and... hey... you've forgotten about that asshole, Jane?" Mia pouted and pulled up a chair so she could talk to her friend.

"Hh..?!" Jane snorted at Mia's words.

Remembering the figure of her ex-husband, the person she hates the most but still loves.

"Would you believe me if I told you... if I just imagine his face in the bathtub," Jane said. And Mia, who heard it immediately frowned?

"Iuuhh... Why are you thinking perverts earlier in the bath?" Mia asked curtly.

"Hahaha... of course not. It's the only way I can see him. If I miss him, that's all I can do." Jane said, and the look on her face was much sadder than before.

In one hand, Jane held hot chocolate, and on the other, she placed it on her bent knees. She started to notice the figure of the man who was outside and sitting in the coffee shop.

"Never mind Jane! Henry? Arggh... the mere mention of his name makes me so pissed off. That bastard is already happy with his dream family. You better go around. What about that guy?" Mia asked and also looked out the window.

"Wait... I seem to know that sweet guy. Is he... your new neighbor? Wow... correct my guess. What's his name?" Mia asked curiously.

"I haven't formally introduced myself yet," Jane answered honestly.

"But a few times... we passed each other... and he just gave me a sweet smile."

"Did you read his mind?" Mia asked and shifted her chair further. "He's handsome, Jane. You should get to know him."

"Mia... that guy seems like a nice person. How could he want someone like me." Jane replied modestly.

"So... have you read his mind?" Mia repeated her question.

"No... he always looks away from my face. Maybe I look disgusting to him. You know... when I came home in those revealing clothes. Suddenly, he was outside the door. I'm sure he must have looked very disgusted to see me. I'm like a woman who sells herself, isn't it." Jane told the story.

"Don't say things like that. You've never slept with any men. Except for your ex-husband, who was an asshole! So you're not a bitch, Jane!" Mia emphasized the intonation of her voice.

"Come on, Jane...don't be so desperate and sad. I hope you can forget Henry. He doesn't deserve you. You deserve another man." Mia continued trying to encourage her best friend.

"We'll see, is there a man who can fill my heart right now. So... when the job started?" Jane asked, trying to divert their conversation.

"Tomorrow night, at the usual place. Your job is only to steal a little information from the guy named Max."

"Mr. Halliwell suspects that he's doing business with his money. Maybe some kind of money laundering he's been doing along with his mistress." Mia said, explaining the task to Jane.

"Hmm... men... men... are always tempted by thrones and women," Jane said and looked back at the man still sitting in the coffee shop.

The man seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere of the rain, and not long after that, a pair of eyes met accidentally.

Jane looked deeper into the man who was still staring straight at her. Of course, they were far away. Because it was Jane on the second floor and the man across the street.

The sound of raindrops also disturbed Jane's concentration. But for a moment, she could hear the man's inner voice.

"Beautiful..."

Jane smiled faintly when she knew what the man was thinking. Mia looked alternately between outside the window and Jane's face.

"Hey... you must have read his mind, right? What did he say it?" Mia asked urgently.

"That is a secret," Jane replied, holding back her amusement.
