Chapter 5 - Suspicious Attack

While Jackline was on her way back, her phone started ringing. She took it out and saw that the call was from her Aunt Adela. She picked up the call at that very moment however hearing the stuttering voice from her aunt made her surprised.

"Jackline… come fast… please be quick!"

Jackline halted in her steps. her brows furrowed together as a feeling of judging that something was not right arose inside her.

"Aunt, is everything fine? Are you alright?"

On the other side all that she could hear was her aunt's sobbing voice.

"We were attacked…"

"I'm coming there."

Jackline rushed towards her car that was parked a few distance away. Miranda followed her and asked.

"Hey, what happened?"

"It's my aunt. Something is wrong, I have to go." Jackline got into the driver seat as she boarded the car. Miranda followed the suit and sat on the passenger seat. She noticed the uneasiness on her friend's face. She knew he had lost her parents and her uncle and aunt were the ones taking care of her. Buckling her seat belt, Miranda patted Jackline on her shoulder and comforted.

"Everything is going to be fine."

Jackline nodded her head mindlessly and started the engine before driving it at the quickest speed he could on the way to her aunt's house. Only she knew how with a heavy heart she managed to reach there. As soon as the car stopped in front of the gates, she quickly came out. What greeted her sight was a broken entrance door and even the windows were broken.

She rushed inside while looking around. She could not believe that in such a short time so much had happened. If she wouldn't have left then she would have been here to protect them.

"Aunt… aunt are you ok?"

Jackline entered and looked inside while calling out for her. Miranda followed from behind and looked around. She was shocked as well. The whole entrance was broken, even the windows glasses were all spattered around the house. All the furniture seemed to have been turned upside down. The whole scene in front of her was just chaotic and messy. Not to mention that they could even see the wallpapers being ripped by something very sharp or to be precise it looked like a claw type something which had scrabbed the wallpaper. Miranda looked around the house with her eyes widened and lips parted in shock. Jackline also took notice of everything and because of this very sight she became more afraid regarding her guardian's safety. She had just reached the staircase when she looked upstairs and noticed that the door was tightly shut and there were droplets of blood on the staircase. She ran upstairs skipping steps in between and knocked on the door while yelling from outside.

"Aunt, open the door. It's me Jack!"

She had just finished speaking when the sound of unlocking and turning of knob came through. Adela quickly opened the door and looked at Jackline with her face drenched out of colour. Her face was pale and even she had a lot of injuries on her face. Jackline's eyes widened in horror on looking at the sorry state in which her aunt was. Her clothes were torn from one side to the other, her lips had cuts on the corners, her right seemed to have been punched and she could clearly see a big round blackish patch around her eyes. Her head was swollen and not to mention the cut on the corner of her forehead from where blood was dripping. She could not believe that just after she went out an hour ago this happened to her aunt.

"Aunt, how come you are so injured?" She ran inside and grabbed her both arms carefully while seizing her from head to toe as if she was trying to figure out if there is another injury on her body or not. her chest filled up with panic the moment her eyes landed on the broken knee cap of her aunt. That horrific sight of the house and now her condition seemed to leave a part of her soul.

"I am completely fine. But your uncle… he…" Adela tried to point out in a direction but somehow she keep on losing her consciousness. She would regain her strength back but again she would plump into the abyss of darkness. When Jackline noticed her losing her balance, she made her sit on the nearby chair and asked her.

"Tell me, where is uncle?"

Adela tried to catch up with her breathing and pointed in that specific direction. Jackline noticed that she was pointing towards the bathroom. Standing up she quickly rushed towards the bathroom and opened the door. her body seemed to have turned lifeless. her uncle seemed to be lying on the floor unconscious and his one hand was around a certain animal or human. her eyes gazed at that certain creature who looked like a human as well as resembled some features of being an animal. But truth to be told, she did not have time for that. She quickly went ahead and checked her uncle's pulse rate by grabbing his wrist. When she could feel his pulse, a soft relieved sigh escaped her lips and she very calmly and carefully removed that creature from her uncle's grips and lifted him by his shoulder.

By that time, Miranda had arrived upstairs as well. She was shocked to witness everything upstairs as well but as soon as she saw her friend carrying up her uncle, she quickly came forward to help her.

"I will carry him. You take care of your aunt. The ambulance is downstairs."

Jackline handed her uncle to Miranda and looked behind that creature with her brows furrowed. But she needed to check on her aunt as well. She noticed that she seemed to be unconscious at that time. She patted her on her hand and lifted her up with her shoulders when she noticed she remained unconscious.
