By the time Jackline reached the bureau, she saw her colleague propping up her head on her hand whileshewas looking at something on the computer screen. her brows were furrowed while she would often take a glance on the report in her hand. Walking from behind, Jackline glanced at the screen and read up the content over Thise. With the information she would guess that it was probably some case which took place a few years back. Scrutinizing her gaze she asked in puzzlement.
"Miranda, why are you reading their old case?"
That sudden sound from behind startled Miranda whose eyes seemed to be on the document. She turned over to look around, on realising that it was her friend Jackline, she sighed softly.
"C'mon man! Do you always have to tread so silently all the time and that too behind me?"
Jackline laughed a bit before she patted her friend on her shoulders and shrugged.
"Do you want me to stop doing that then?"
Miranda shook her head before answering.
"Well I will prefer not." Both of them laughed before Jackline's eyes darted on the document in her friend's hands.
"What is this?"
Miranda shot a look at Jackline and chided.
"This is what happens when you take a week off. This is the case which I am probably working on."
"What kind of case is it that you are going through the old ones?"
When Miranda heard her friend she sighed softly while throwing the document in her hand on the table. Ruffling her hair with her fingers she couldn't help but mention the main issue.
"Do you remember that animal attack in South City?"
"It happened three years back." Miranda added a bit more when she noticed the frown on Jackline's forehead. She knew she might find it a bit hard to recall. However, to her surprise at the mention of three years, Jackline quickly recalled that incident. Of course how she was supposed to forget about that day. Pain stacking, she had arranged for a candle light dinner and cooked her aunt's and uncle's favourite dish too for the first time after seeing videos online. She planned for a nice family day for the three of them, just to get it ruined at the very last moment because of a sudden call from the bureau for this same case. At the end she had to leave without even tasting the dishes.
"Everything is the same as last time. Piece of cloth as the evidence and hand limb where the murderer has probably left three marks on wrist."
Jackline turned serious when she heard her friend. The case years back was stopped for not having enough evidence to go on with the case. However, within the span of three years such an incident did not happen again so probably the case was concluded as an animal attack. However, when Jackline read the location of the attack she knew that it can't be possible. Between the main city, how can an animal come and attack somebody?
"Did you run a background check?"
Miranda shrugged and answered.
"The very first thing I did. Believe me This person was a new civilian here working in a lab firm particularly about botany and he even had This id with him from which we can just get to know about his occupation. His family doesn't live here. They live abroad and he came here last week to attend a seminar on botany while attending the lab firm here."
"Well that's really bad." Jackline felt like a headache coming over their head. For a guest to get murdered in their country was like getting a load of headache. Not only the main central bureau would come into news but the foreign embassy would try to jump in as well.
"Cut the crap! Isn't your stomach hungry?"
"What does it have to do with you?" Jackline shot her friend an odd look before a growling sound came through. It was Jackline's stomach! Both of them broke into a fit of laughter. Both of them stood up and left the bureau.
"Have you decided?" While both of them were there on the way, Miranda turned to look at Jackline whose eyes were focussed ahead on the road. If this question would have been asked to Jackline earlier before meeting her aunt and uncle then probably she would have said 'they can try' without any hesitation but now she knew that she was hesitating at first when her friend posed that question. Miranda was taken back andsheasked again.
"Dude, does it mean you are interested?"
Jackline's face darkened and she could not help but cough a few times before getting back at Miranda.
"What nonsense are you spouting? Why will I have somebody in my life? And why the hell will I be interested?"
"I am not."
Jackline added after a short pause while Miranda just shrugged her shoulders. She was anyway far away from all these relationship kinds of things. She probably wished to never get into one in her life. Of course it depends on the situation. Since her parents passed away she did not let anybody to get close to her and neither did she wanted anybody to be close to her. That was the sole reason why she never got into any kind of relationship despite having such perfect looks and figure. There were many men and suitors after her but she never gave a damn about it.
"You wait here, I will go and come back quickly." Jackline unbuckled her seat belt and went out of the car before crossing the road ahead. Miranda waited inside the car while looking around. All of a sudden her eyes landed on a certain woman who was coming out of the law firm in front of him. She knew about her, after all who did not. Being the most charming and attractive personality she has been one of the best lawyers in the city who hardly lost any cases. She was none other than the famous young lady, Angelina Walker. Miranda did not realise that Jackline had already come back.
"Hey! Are you daydreaming in broad daylight?"
Jackline followed her friend's gaze and her eyes darted on Angelina who coincidentally seemed to have got her eyes locked with her. For a moment, Jackline felt an indifferent feeling inside him. Well it was her instinct or certain kind of perceives but the fact was she felt a bit of an aberrant feeling. However, what she saw next had shocked him to the core. She saw that young woman's face changing into something really horrible. But before Jackline could register and have a clear look Miranda had shook him to wake up from her daze.
