Chereads / THE CROWN'S FATE / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

The next morning, I was greeted with a groan coming from beside me. I opened my eyes only to see the man I brought with me half laid back, his upper body leaning against the headboard of the bed.

"Where am I?" he asked in a groggy state.

"At my place. Took you in after you asked for help last night" I replied.

"Can you move?" I asked as I stood up to assist him and thankfully he can move enough to walk. I guide him towards the dining room and let him sit down to wait for breakfast.

I prepared as much as I could to feed two grown men. They were just simple dishes made of bread, egg and vegetable soup and I didn't know if he would eat this considering he looked liked a noble but I didn't care if he would.

"Eat this. Once you're finished, I'll leave your clothes at the bed where you slept last night and after that you can leave" I said and left to go to my brother's bedroom.

My brother was still asleep in his bed. I opened the curtains which woke him up with a yawn. I drop his food on the table beside his bed and asked him to eat up.

I went back to the dining room and surprisingly, the man was still there. His hazel eyes looked at me as if he was asking for help to change his clothes due to his uncomfortable state to which I immediately assisted him. There were scars visible all around his body, as if he was someone who went to a battlefield.

I studied him for a moment to figure out who he is. A man who looked like who was on the run would never give his name out to someone even if that someone helped him. He was definitely a very attractive man. He had hazel eyes that had a hint with gold, high bridge nose and a well structured jaw but what really caught my eye was the scar on his left eye.

Then I remembered seeing his face on the front page of the newspapers.. But I pretended not to know him. Nothing good ever comes from associating with an aristocrats.

"So how did you get here? You seem like someone who lived off from a silver spoon. What are you doing here in the slums?" I asked as I let him sit down to rest his body for a while. He sat down on the sofa holding his injured stomach carefully to not open up the wound.

" I came here looking for someone "he replied..

"Who?" I asked.

"Someone who goes by the name 'Raven'. I heard she's worked at the bar" he said as he breathe carefully.

"What do you want from her?" I asked not telling him I was actually Raven.

"I heard she can forsee the future.. Or let say change someone's fate.." he replied and I nodded in understanding.

"Well sad to say but she doesn't have that kind of power.. She's just merely a guide to someone's destiny, she doesn't have the power to change one's. And furthermore, she's more of a love expert" I replied..

"How do you know that?" he asked as he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Because I am Raven" I replied and with that I left the house to go to work.

The tavern was hectic as always but today was especially crowded. There were lots of knights hanging around and poking my colleagues with questions about a certain man who was on the run. Of course I denied any information saying I haven't seen one around and there were also knights who were requesting for a fortune telling making me earn extras.

By the time I went home, I had expected the man already had left but was prove wrong when I saw him casually sitting on the dining area stuffing his mouth with a sandwich. I also saw an extra sandwich left on a plate which I return my gaze to his.

"I thought you already had left. What are you still doing here?" I asked as I grabbed the sandwich and ate it.

I sat down beside him to hear his answer ignoring his eyes to focus on the sandwich.

"Well, I had questions for you" he said with a serious voice.

"Should I answer as Raven or just me?" I replied with a question.

"Well as Raven.." he answered.

"Well.. How do I say this... The truth is, I'm currently looking for a suitable partner for me. As you might not know, I'm actually the crown prince of this empire" he added.

"Greetings to the future sun of Vasillos" I politely nod my head at him as a greeting.

"Greetings. Anyway my father, his majesty announced suddenly that in order to take over the throne, including the crown prince must be bethroted and produce an heir. Whoever produces na heir will be crowned. So I'm kind of stuck in a dilemma. I already have a fiancé but... " he stopped and looked away..

"But you're not in love with her. You're currently confused because someone else catches your eye.." I finished.

He looked down and sighed.

"It'd be great if that was the issue. But the thing is well I'm confused. I'm confused and I hate it that I'm like this.. I hate that It feels so wrong and morbid but every time I see that person, I feel like everything will go well even tho it won't. Even though loving him will end up as a disaster. I don't even know if we feel the same way.. " he said sadly.

" What could go wrong your highness? Is that person your blood relative? Or married? "I asked him wondering what the issue was.

" That person is a man.. " he looked away embarrassed.

I opened my eyes in shock. It was surprising because in this Era and age homosexuality wasn't very common. It wasn't accepted by the society what's more it that he was the crowned prince. He was supposed to be a role model for the people but to be involved with such things will cause a huge scandal. Moreover he had duties as the crown prince and he had to take a huge responsibility to prolong the bloodline.

But I was more surprised of what he had said next making me lose grip of the sandwich I was holding making it fall to the ground.
