Spruce Hospital was succumbing to Destroyer Malady. Dr. Ortho successfully managed to get everyone outside from sickbay, the infirmary and the wards before the virus infected any of them---but Mario didn't. Dr. Bennars heaved Natalia and carried her. Madison was walking alongside Max through the corridor, not talking to him. Meanwhile, Dr. Ortho was getting upset outside and tried to telephone Mario.
Ambulances and the Spruce Hospital buses were waiting outside; the buses were already filled with doctors and the rest of the staff. "Sir, we can't wait for them any longer. We have to leave now!" Dr. Chris Warren said as he tapped Dr. Ortho on the shoulder. "The first day you attended my symposiums I taught you patience. Can I see you display that virtue for me please?" Ortho queried. Chris nodded as he went back to the bus.
Madison could hear the patient in the Emergency Room wailing and immediately stopped. "You better keep moving 'cause if you stop, Destroyer Malady will get to us and...oof!" Madison interrupted Max's speech with a fist across his cheek. She was about to head for the Emergency Room when Maxwell grabbed her right leg and yanked her to the floor. "Let go of me Tocca!" Madison struggled to release her leg of Maxwell's strong grip. "I can't do that Madie, you will die!" he said as he pulled her towards him.
Madie took that opportunity to kick Maxwell's face with her other leg as soon as she was closer to him. After Max got knocked out, she quickly got to her feet and ran towards the Emergency Room. She struggled with the door just as Mario and the patient's crying welled up her tears. The green Destroyer Malady was almost clouding the whole place but at last, she pushed the door open and got in. The patient was suffocating and losing a lot of blood. She grabbed an oxygen mask and tried to wear it on the patient but he denied. "Please, you have to wear this." Madie insisted as tears trickled from her eyes. "No...don't waste it. Get out of here, save yourself." the patient said as he gasped. He then closed his eyes and slept eternally. Madie felt devastated as she wept bitterly.
In the interim, Mario finally got Natalia out of the hospital and were both given oxygen masks. "Where the hell is Tocca and Madie?" Ortho asked tempestuously. "What the....they were right behind me!" Mario bawled in shock. "Get you and Natalia in the bus, I'll be back." Dr. Ortho quickly ran back in with three masks. He was headed to the Emergency Room when he met Maxwell on the floor, grunting. He quickly masked and helped him up. "That fool went back to the ER!" Max got infuriated not by Madie going back to the ER but getting kicked in the face. "I'll bring Madie outside, go!" Ortho commanded. Maxwell sprang to his feet and ran downstairs. Ortho grabbed his mask and went into the ER where he found Madie crying and clasping the hand of the already dead patient. "Come with me please." Ortho requested as he gave her an oxygen mask.
They quickly ran into the bus before the whole hospital was contaminated. The doctors could see the thick cloud of Destroyer Malady looming all over Spruce Hospital from the buses' windows. Mario sat right next to Madison who was in bitter tears. "What's wrong? Aren't you happy we escaped death?" Mario inquired as he curved his arm round her shoulders. "Not with everybody. I just watched someone die and there was nothing I could have done to save him!" He held Madie and watched her sob and wet his scrub.
Madie felt a tap on her back; it was Tocca. "Don't think I will forget that you kicked me in the face!" Maxwell gave her a botox smile. "Well, you deserved it. I told you to let go of me but you declined. Let's just say we are even." Madie replied. "Fine, we are even then. Mario if you don't tame your girlfriend, I will." Tocca gave a broad smile before he turned to the window again. "Fellow doctors, vets and the entire staff, I need your attention please." Ortho stood up and faced them. "I know some of you might think that we have reached the end of our jobs just because Spruce Hospital has been contaminated by Destroyer Malady. But there is one thing I didn't tell you, I built another hospital in San Francisco....and that's where we are headed. We will continue with our pledge; treating patients and animals and most importantly, find a cure to end this virus. All the passengers were pleased to hear that. Ortho came closer to where Madison and Mario sat. "I hope you guys are ready. We shall commence the moment we arrive."
