Chapter 10 - 10. Her Fans

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

The rest of the day passes without any incident for Yan Ran. After her morning exercise, she spends the rest of morning with her aunt and brother. She knows she will soon not be able to spend much time with them due to her upcoming activities.

After lunch she goes into her personal study which her brother had turned into music room cum studio. She had a sudden bolt of inspiration to write. Although for most of her past albums, they would choose songs from several renowned song writers in the field, she always insists on adding a few songs that she would write herself. Sometimes she would write with the help of a profession song writer.

At first it had been a way to channel her feelings but with time she had realised that she actually enjoyed writing. A few of the songs she had written over the years had made it onto her albums. A lot more never got published, sometimes because she did not feel that they were good enough, but mostly due to the fact that they were too personal.

Most of her songs were a chronicle of her emotional journey from the time she left the country to the time she decided to come back. They were obviously full of her pain, fears and feelings of despair and loneliness during those times. She really would not have let anyone see all her vulnerabilities like that.

This morning she is also feeling a bit fragile due to the previous night's incident. Although she blames herself for Wei's pain, she has no way of solving that problem at the moment.

Yan Ran feels that coming back might look a bit selfish on her part but she feels that now is the time to take back her life and regain the control that she feels she lost five years ago. It might be a bit risky but she is willing to put it all on the line this time around. If she cannot have her true love then at least she can have control over her own life.

Even though her first relationship had not lasted long, at least she had known true love. She had loved hard and she had been loved back. For now that was enough.

As she reminisces on her first and only love came about words seem to flow free from her heart onto her notepad

The moment was set

The moment our eyes met

Like two stars that converge

Two moons that would merge

I am already on the verge

I can't resist that urge

My love can I hold on to you a little longer

Let my pure love for you grow stronger

Ohhhhh oh-oh-oh

I'm selfish, selfish, selfish yeah I'm selfish

Ohhhh oh-oh-oh

I'm greedy, greedy yeah I'm greedy

Ohhhhh oh-oh-oh forgive me, forgive me

Wanted this love of ours to last

Didn't you move on a little fast?

Didn't we have a little blast?

Maybe it's all in the past

Memories sweet I have kept

It has been hard to accept

Love I cannot hold any longer

My loneliness grows stronger

After she finishes writing she feels a gloomy cloud settle on her, so she decides to take a break.

She sits on her couch and grabs her phone. She goes on her social media account only to realise that there is a hot discussion going on amongst her fans.

Some fans had tagged her, redirecting her to an online tabloid page but when she tries to open the link, it seems the article had been deleted. In confusion, she decides to try and follow the discussion until she realises it is about the previous night's incident.

Yan Ran is neither surprised at fact that someone had picked up on the incident, nor at the fact that the tabloid had deleted the article. In the past, anything involving Wei Lan used to be news worthy but now putting her in the mix would be like a double whammy for paparazzi. The fact that it was deleted so fast meant that someone influential had intervened. Her good guess would be the Jin family.

She searches on the internet but cannot find anything involving either Wei or herself. There is however, an article with blurred pictures and a vague article about some famous people who had a fight in a bar.

She can tell right away it is Wei Lan and herself in the picture but because it is not clear, she is sure very few people can tell it is them. She sighs in relief.

One of her fans seemed to have done some investigations and had identified the club. She was also suspecting that the person on the picture's body shape matched Yan Ran's. She had brought her suspicions to her social media page hence the heated discussion there. A lot of her fans were doubtful and hence were scolding the discerning fan that she was just trying to stir up trouble.

Although Yan Ran's account is relatively active, she hardly ever posts any personal things. She always posts about her albums, songs, concerts; and sometimes about dances she was learning or wants to share with her fans.

Her fans know that she is not a big enthusiast of social media but once in a while she makes the effort to interact with her fans.

She is not in the mood to at the moment and she knows that she is not in any position to admit or deny the allegations. Admitting of course is the last thing she needs as it would create a scandal. Wei Lan is a popular figure but also has a girlfriend who is a socialite. She does not want nor need to be seen as someone coming between lovers.

Denying would bring a temporary reprieve but if they were unfortunate that someone at the club last night could have taken a video or a clearer picture and it surfaces after their denial, it would make them liars. Neither of them needs that right now so instead of engaging with them, she logs off and hopes the incident will die a natural death.

She feels a little nervous, leaving her throat a bit dry.

When she gets up to go to the kitchen for a drink, her phone rings.
