Rick's group didn't go straight to a place where they could settle. Instead, Rick continued to walk with them while dragging Paul around like a dog.
The slave didn't even know where he was. The boy was so weak that he couldn't think properly nor absorb anything that happened around him.
In truth, he wasn't even caring at that point. His will was completely shattered. It wasn't possible to make him come back anymore. He was just a broken boy at that point.
'I hope that there is a way to fix this slave. I think we tortured him in the wrong way. Now, he is as trashy as any other slave. I can't let things like this. To get another slave without any money, I will need to search a lot and struggle. I don't have time enough to do it.'
Rick knew that they overwhelmed Paul way too much, but he was desperate. He wanted that he Ascended before he arrived at Nemesis, at least.
