Dean ran through that tunnel like never before. He didn't think that he could run so fast even though he was so hurt.
Back when he was just walking, this exercise alone was a huge strain for his body, but now he was running even faster than when he was escaping from the Scythes.
'Can I do this at all!? Are they catching up to me or are they slower than I think? But they are flying, and their wings seemed to be pretty strong back when I looked at them. My mind may be augmenting everything to make it seem scarier, but...'
His mind was in a rush. He couldn't think straight at all. Dean was only questioning himself out of despair.
'I didn't look back at all. I can only hear the sound of their wings flapping at a high pace. I can't measure their distance just by this sound because of this freaking echo of the tunnel!'
