Will woke up after some minutes unconscious. His mind was somewhat dizzy, he wasn't feeling some parts of his body. Blood was dripping on his chin and there was a constant flow going out of his eyebrow. Other points were harmed, but the most annoying was in the forehead.
He felt that someone was shaking him by the shoulder and calling his name. At first, the touch and the calling seemed to be distant, as if they were the product of a dream. Nonetheless, as some seconds went by and his mind was getting sharper, the man looked to his right side and saw the hand of a young man on his shoulder.
Through the window, he could spot dozens of students looking worried towards him. They were all worried about his condition and when the young man that was shaking Will saw his eyelids opening, he shouted to them that he was ok.
All the students released the breath that they were holding before. They would feel guilty if that kind man died when trying to save them. As they were still absorbing the shock of that situation, even some of the medical students couldn't think well at that moment to help him.
The only one to move straight to the professor and try to wake him up was one of his students from the sociology class.
Will needed some time to recover from the impact. He wasn't feeling too much pain, but he was sure that something was off on his body. Probably, it was still numbing the pain of the bruises he got, however, soon this effect would pass and he was sure that he would suffer a lot.
Some minutes of silence befell the group of students. They were sorting out his thoughts, slowly accepting what was happening. Some of them looked up to the crimson sky while crying silently. Anyway, something was for sure, they didn't know what to do and were waiting for someone who could do it.
Five minutes passed quickly. That reality was just like torture for all of them. However, just because they didn't have time to lose, it seemed to pass faster than usual.
Will had his mind clearer now. It wasn't 100%, but he could reason properly. He looked to his students, all of them retrieving the stare with helpless eyes. The professor didn't know what to think about that situation. He was lost for a while.
'No! Don't be like this. You need to lead all these people. You already know the problem here, right? In a tough situation, most likely no one will try to be the leader and solve things, so, again, you will need to be the one taking initiative... or trying to do it.'
The professor got out of the bus. His knee was more painful than before. Even his numbness couldn't hide that excruciating feeling of having his knee exploded inside out. Regardless of the pain, he gave a full round on the vehicle, checking its motor to see if it was still working.
'It won't last for too long. Thankfully, there is a lot of other buses around here. We can take any of them. There was one that would fit all those students.'
He stared at the street, seeing a blue bus in front of the Campus gate. Will had insecure eyes, but he knew that he didn't have any other way to go.
'The only option we have here is to take that bus and go to the street, then run away from the Capital, and go to the pier.'
"Ok, everyone. This bus here is messed, so we will be taking another one. I counted that you are roughly forty people here. That blue bus there might have around 30 seats, so if some of you travel standing, it will work out just well. Our goal here is to get out of the Capital, go to the pier, and take a waterway transport. We are aiming to go to the archipelago in the north."
Will shut his mouth for a while, waiting for objections or anything, but the students stayed dead silent. In their expressions, he could see despair, but also hope. They had somewhere to look for, a goal that could save them. It was a better feeling than simply be lost.
"We are with you on this. We don't have anywhere to go, anyway, and things seem to get worse rather than better." The same student that was trying to wake him up spoke, looking to his mates who agreed with him.
"Ok, then. Let's go to the--" His speech was interrupted once he spotted something coming from the streets. It made him widen his eyes and give a few steps back, nearly falling on the ground. "What... What the hell is that?" Will unintentionally pointed towards that thing.
The students felt a chill running down their spine. At first, they couldn't look behind, but soon they decided to face whatever that was coming. Once they stared at it, they remained speechless just like their professor.
'What is wrong with that dog? Is that thing really a dog at all!?"
He was staring at an animal very similar to a dog, but it had its fur completely black. There were some cracks across his body, like ravines forming on its flesh. These ravines emitted a red light from inside. The animal's eyes were bloodshot as well and its pupils were very contracted.
Not just those aspects were noticeable, but its height and physique as well. He had nearly three meters tall and the muscles on his body seemed to grow each time more, widening the red cracks as well. It was barking and growling at them with a deep and hoarse voice, showing its canines that were several centimeters long.
'That's... That's dreadful.' Will thought, gulping.
After, the dog kicked the ground with all his fours and rushed at a high speed towards the group. He crossed all the way until them in a matter of seconds, its speed was too high even for their eyes to follow.
The students started to panic, running to all sides and spreading around the place. Some hid behind wreckage or big cracks and craters formed on the ground, others needed to keep running to find refuge. Of the forty people that were there, just four of them stayed in the same place.
One of them had peed on his pants and couldn't move an inch. Another one collapsed on the ground due to the shock. The remaining two couldn't run due to injuries that limited them to do so.
The beast, of course, focused on them, mainly.
The last thing that echoed on the Campus before they were slaughtered was their screams of despair. That animal destroyed their bodies, consuming even the last piece of shattered bones they had. No part was left behind.
Once he finished his first meal, he looked at the other students with greedy eyes. The red cracks on its body and red eyes began to shine intensely. His muscles grew as that light grew stronger, also as its bones enlarging allowing his body to get wider.
After his evolution, the beast reached 3.4 meters. His canines were dyed in black color, also getting larger and sharper. The dog's claws weren't as intimidating as the rest of his body before, but now they had reached another level.
The evolution lasted an entire minute. When it finished, the dog looked to his other prey. He could smell the ones that were hidden, hear the others who were still running. Even their fear could be sensed in the air.
It walked slowly at first, going in the direction of some students who were hiding in a nearby spot. They were curled, embracing each other, and couldn't see anything outside the wreckage they were hiding behind to realize that the beast was approaching them.
Nevertheless, just as it was ten meters far away from them, a rock considerably big struck him at its head. It caused a little harm, but nothing much. The animal looked to the student who threw that thing on him with hatred. The muscles of his legs tensioned, his veins popped up. The dog was clearly intending to run toward him at full speed.
Suddenly, the loud sound of a motor could be heard, followed by the sound of wheels speeding up.
The dog would look behind to see what was happening but got struck by a rain of rocks. The group was getting out of their hiding places and taking whatever they had around them to throw at the animal.
The dog went mad when surrounded by those attacks and howled to the skies. It was so loud that all those people needed to cover their ears which started to bleed almost immediately.
"Shut the hell up!" Was the first thing the beast heard when it stopped to howl.
Afterward, the big red bus struck him at its body, sending him several meters away. The most harmed part was its head, which got smashed on the side.
Will was breathing heavily while holding firmly the steering wheel.
"Hey, you all... Get inside that blue bus now!"
