Paul felt a lot of pain. That was the only way to describe all that situation: pain. Pain, pain, and more pain. However, he was used to it. He was a slave, after all. Was there anything else that he tasted more than pain and suffering? Of course not. He didn't. Pain was the word for every single day of his life, and he knew that soon or later it would be again.
"Did you really think that your determination could make the difference in the end? Did you think that your punch would break through? To have this much faith even though all your previous attempts failed completely you must be really amazing, I shall admit."
Paul didn't respond. He was too busy steadying his breath and getting used to the pain. Soon, he would be able to move again, so everything would be fine. There was no secret whatsoever. He just needed to breathe in and out. That was the same technique he used when he was receiving a beating from his masters, be it barehanded, with a weapon, or a whip.
