Clay faltered for a moment as he heard what Susan shouted. For a moment, he couldn't breathe.
'You selfish silly girl... to say this kind of thing to me when I am doing all of this... It just makes it harder on me. Now I understand how Rick felt and why he isolated himself for a good while before that fateful day.'
Susan didn't stop there, though, she continued talking.
"If it's just because of my importance to the world, Clay... stop it... I don't want you to die for such shallow reasons. If you don't think that I am selfish or useless, then let me be both right now! Let me be selfish enough to want you to live instead of sacrificing for me. Let me be useless and irresponsible just this time and fail with you, not giving you the bright future that you and my father envisioned in this world!
