Chapter 9:
Javier and Sonny stood face to face in the giant empty room they used for power practice. Javier lectured Sonny, "Your power is force. Now let's see you use it. I will try and attack you. Let's go."
Javier ran toward Sonny, his fist extended and nailed him in the face. Sonny winced in pain, his hands grabbing his irritated face. "Sonny you're supposed to block it!"
"I know." Sonny replied. "I'm just not the fighting type."
"It's not about fighting. It's about being able to defend yourself. Do you want to get hit? Or do you want to not get hit? It's that simple." Javier backed up again and signaled another attack. He ran to Sonny and again extended his fist to punch him. Sonny reached up with his forearm and let out a grunt as Javier went bouncing off him. He got up, smiling ear to ear, "Nice dude! That was good. Now let's do it a couple more times then let's try you attacking me."
Olive looked down on them from a window atop the room. Stone approached her, "I'm glad you decided to stay." He spoke in a deep voice. He had changed from the dark grey pants and athletic shirt he wore yesterday and now sported a slick black suit with an eagle feather sticking out from the pocket.
"I'm only staying for Sonny." She was blunt, her dislike for Stone shown all over her face.
"Well, whatever the reason, I'm happy. I know it makes Sonny happy too."
Olive nodded as Stone returned down the corridor he came from. How could he know what would make Sonny happy? Olive turned back to watch Sonny who did surprisingly well mastering his powers as far as Olive knew.
Sonny ran toward Javier, trying to channel his force into a punch, but it wasn't working. Frustrated he asked Javier, "Are you sure this is part of my power?"
Breathing hard Javier replied, "Look, powers come in many shapes and forms, but your force should be able to transfer to an attack. You just have to look within you for the strength."
Sonny backed up and full speed he charged Javier. Then, as if a bomb exploded, his force sent Javier flying into the wall with a crack. He landed with a thud on the floor. Silence. Javier wasn't moving. Sonny ran to him, grabbing him by the shoulder shaking him frantically. "Javier!!!" He shook him again, sweat beading down his face. His voice became high pitched as he panicked, "HEY Javier!!!"
Olive ran into the room, panicking too, "JAVIER!" She ran to Sonny and knelt beside him.
"*Cough**Cough* That was a good one *cough*," Javier groaned while attempting to bring himself to his feet. Sonny and Olive grabbed him under the arm and helped him up. Surprisingly Javier was still smiling. "But maybe we should take a break….let me recover so I don't die." He grinned towards Sonny who tried to manage a slight smile. The shock from thinking he'd killed Javier sent adrenaline through his veins as his heart kept racing.
