Chapter 39 - Wonderment

Unexpectedly, when the lights were turned on, Catherine found that the small theater was full of people, which gave Catherine a shock.

It turned out that it was not only Ms. Sartre who was hiding. The whole theater was wearing black shirts and silently watching the wonderful rehearsal from the Godmother.

"Hey, you're going too far!" Catherine complained to her Godfather. "I've finally learned how to dance, and now you're going to make me a laughing stock?"

"Don't worry. Although your dance moves are really terrible, I can guarantee that no one in the audience will laugh at you, let alone dare to do so," Sartre walked to Catherine's side and said softly.

"Okay, Ms. Sartre, thank you for your participation. You can come down now."

"Yes, Godfather." Sartre glanced at the Godmother beside Him and walked down the stage, finding an empty seat and sitting down.

"So, Ms. Catherine, are you ready? Let me see your awareness."

"You don't... Want me to dance again, do you?"

"No, but it's true that you need to dance with this guy." The Godfather threw the document bag onto the stage. "Everyone in this theater will participate in this grand performance. Think of a perfect performance, Godmother. Oh, and one more thing – invincible."

After the godfather finished speaking, everyone in the theater stood up and raised their right hands to their chests. They said in unison for the godmother who was still standing on the stage, "Invincible!"

After the Godmother left, everyone in the theater left one after another until only two men and a fat woman were left.

"What about this woman?" The Godfather turned his head and looked at Link, who was sitting next to him.

"Nothing much, to be honest." Link did not seem to have a particularly good impression of the Godmother. "It's mainly because she doesn't know her place. Such a career-oriented woman is not my type."

"She's indeed not to your liking. I can understand that," The Godfather agreed. "After all, you've always hoped to have a woman older than you to accompany you, right?"

"If she's just a simple inner member of the sect and doesn't have her current high status, wouldn't that be a better choice? I really don't understand why you want to raise such a person who can do as she pleases. Just so that she can become your own puppet?"

"Are you worried about her? Are you moved?" The Godfather asked with a laugh.

"There's nothing funny." Link denied. "I just don't understand what you're doing."

After listening to what he said, the Godfather stopped smiling and said, "You never really understood my original intention, did you?"

"Yes, you're always so enigmatic, aren't you?" Link retorted like a child.

"Perhaps, the Godfather hopes that he can stop the pain, and wants to help you get past your grief," Sartre interjected.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Spider, this is a private conversation between me and this old man. No one else has the right to interfere!" Link roared. Link's expression suddenly turned ugly at Sartre's sudden interjection.

Sartre was stunned by Link's sudden roar and did not say another word.

"It seems that you've learned a lot of bad habits from your new godmother," the Godfather said with a smirk.

"At least she's more real and more convincing than you. Unlike you, what else do you have left besides an empty shell for a body?"

"I don't have anything left, child. But in terms of the knowledge I have received in my life, everyone will be the same. First, learn different thoughts, knowledge, and abilities from different places, and then gradually abandon them on the path of life."

Link had no retort. He knew that no matter how much he said, he would still be able to see through his flaws. Therefore, in his meetings with him, he never made any rookie mistakes, at least, he would not be blamed by this cold-faced middle-aged man.

"I'm still receiving treatment, so please make it short. If my attending doctor knew that I escaped from the hospital to watch her performance, she would probably increase the dosage of my medicine."
