Chapter 2 - Waking up in a new world

Dagon woke up underneath a bright blue sky. It felt like a sunny, spring day. All he could hear was the sounds of the forest around him. The cool wind caressed his face, his long hair blowing just slightly. It was peaceful, he felt better in that moment than he had in years. He closed his eyes again to enjoy the feeling before abruptly realizing something was wrong.

"Where the hell am I" he said aloud. It was winter time, and he lived in the city. It took him a moment to remember the events of last night. Even then he was confused on how he got here, wherever here was, and what happened to him. Dagon got up to look for Tigori, he shouted his name a few times but got no reply except for the sounds of a few small animals moving away from him.

It wasn't until Dagon stopped to think again that he noticed his phone on the ground instead of his pocket. Dagon picked it up and immediately felt it ring. He answered the unknown number confused, "Hello?"

"Hi, Dagon, how was the nap?"

"Is this Tigori"

"Of course, I'm the only one that can even call you here"

"What do you mean by that" Dagon said confused. "And where the hell am I? What's going on?"

Tigori took a second before replying, "Let's just say cell phones don't exist here. You'll find out everything soon enough, but I'll give you some basic information to help get you started so listen carefully. Right now you're in Valios, or the land of humans as they call it. You should be at the edge of the forest, so if you walk straight you'll find the city of Harkon. Go to the adventurers guild there to find work. You should probably wait a couple days and get used to the new equipment I left with you first though."

Dagon loudly interrupted, "I don't have anything with me here what equipment? And what the hell is with this introduction, am I even on earth anymore?"

"Quiet I don't have a lot of time let me finish," Tigori quickly said. "No, this isn't your home world. You can find more information on this world as you go. For now open up your storage ring that I was nice enough to leave with you, it'll be a long time before you have enough to afford one of those so try not to show it off too much. The storage ring barely takes any magic to open, so just think about opening it and you should get it to work in no time. As for the phone, it'll self destruct 10 seconds after this call, so I'd throw it away as soon as I hang up. That's all I have to go, good luck, Dagon. Don't die on me, okay?"

Before Dagon could say anything else the call ended. He stared blankly at the phone for a few seconds in disbelief before remembering to throw away the phone. It blew up before it could even hit the ground.

"WHAT THE FUCK," Dagon yelled at the top of his lungs. He'd dreamed about something like this all his life, but when it actually happened he wasn't ready for it. "I should at least get some kind of manual, or a guide right? Why the hell did my shitty luck have to follow me here too?" He thought.

Dagon sat down to calm his mind for a minute before trying his ring. Surprisingly, it worked almost instantly. It was almost like a video game, except Dagon couldn't physically see what was in the ring. He saw it in his mind. There was food, water, clothes, a sword, some books, a lantern, and a bow.

"I should probably try and take all this out to look at," he thought. Dagon settled on the sword, and imagined it in his hand.

The sword appeared out of nowhere. Unfortunately, he wasn't holding his hand tight, as it fell straight to the ground after slipping from his hand. It was surprisingly heavy. Dagon had only held a few swords in the past but none felt like this. It looked different too, like it wasn't made out of the usual steel.

He left the sword on the ground and took out the clothes next. They looked like the typical ranger outfit from video games. He looked down at the suit he was still wearing from the funeral. "I guess I'll have to change into these, I doubt anyone has suits in this place from what I've heard so far" he thought.

After changing clothes, Dagon took out the books. There were 3 books in total. "History of Valios," Beginner's magic," and "Adventures Guide to Survival."

Dagon decided to start on the books. He was always a vivid reader, plus he needed to know more about this place if he wanted to survive.

Luckily, everything was in English. Dagon started with "History of Valios." It only took him a couple hours to finish it. Valios was, like Tigori said, the land of humans. The book didn't mention the other countries, only that it was one of many. Valios was started after the Great War. There's no record of anything before that time, as most of the world, and the people living in it, were destroyed. The book didn't go into detail on the war either, only the name came up a lot. Time started when the war ended, almost like BC and AD for earth. The most useful information in the book was the map that came with it.

It looked to be around noon by this time, so Dagon pulled out some fruit and water before starting on the next book, "Beginner Magic." This one took around the same amount of time, yet it was short. The book only contained basic information on magic itself. According to the book, spells can only be used if your body has affinity with the corresponding magic type. He would have to go to the adventures guild to learn what affinity he had.

The book did give Dagon insight on magic though. After a couple hours of practice, Dagon was able to feel, and circulate, his magic throughout his body. With how many books and shows he'd watched on this subject, it wasn't hard to grasp. Dagon felt lucky for the first time in his life remembering how hard it was for most of those characters.

The day was coming to a close, so Dagon ate again before picking up the sword. His only goal in this world at the moment was to survive and become strong. Learning to use the sword proficiently was the best place to start.
