"The host has been loaded from the last save point."
"Load complete. Loads remaining: 3/5."
With another flash of white light, Lin Fan once again appeared in the main hall of the building once again.
This time, Lin Fan could only blame it on his own bad luck.
If he had just stayed inside or if he didn't stay in the washroom, perhaps it wouldn't have ended like that…
But the worst part was that it was the same person who had caught him in the end.
It was almost as if they were fated to meet.
But now that he had loaded again, it seemed like Lin Fan could only face the final option that he had.
Since it was the final option that the system gave him, it should be the right option. However, no matter how Lin Fan looked at it, it didn't seem like getting food would find a way for him to get what he needed.
Still, the system hadn't led him wrong just yet, even though there was only one example to go by. But one example out of one was technically a 100% success ratio, so Lin Fan had to accept it for now.
He had been thrown into this strange world where he could be killed at any moment, he just needed one single thing to hold onto right now.
So after choosing the last option, Lin Fan headed off according to the map that the system provided.
This time, Lin Fan didn't head to the fifth floor, but rather he went to the third floor where there was a food court, as well as several restaurants on the side.
It was the middle of the morning, so Lin Fan wasn't that hungry since he had already got some food in the breakfast shop. Still the system was telling him to get some food, so…
It was too bad that he didn't even get to choose what to eat, the system had already marked out a store for him. It was a ramen store that was opened to the side of the food court.
To call it a restaurant was a stretch since it was nothing more than a cart with a few benches in front of it, but that was enough since the benches were actually completely filled.
Lin Fan just casually ordered what sounded the lightest since he really wasn't hungry right now and squeezed onto one of the benches to start eating.
He wasn't expecting much since this was just a cart in the middle of a food court, but that first bite surprised him. The soup was very clear, it wasn't as oily as he thought it would be and the noodles had a good firmness to them that fought back as he chewed, while not being too firm that he couldn't chew through them.
Even though the soup was clear and not oily, it actually had a strong taste that completely blended with the noodles, creating a beautiful taste in his mouth.
After taking the first bite, Lin Fan couldn't stop himself from taking the second bite and then the third bite.
It didn't take him long to finish off this bowl of noodles. He was even considering going for a second bowl, but then he remembered what he was doing.
Lin Fan turned back to his system, but it wasn't giving him a single prompt. It was almost as if the system was telling him to wait…
However, if he kept waiting like this, what would happen to him?
This was the enemy's territory and they were clearly looking for him, so time wasn't exactly on his side.
While Lin Fan was debating what to do, there was a group that suddenly came out of the elevator and headed over to this noodle cart. It was a group that Lin Fan was familiar with since he had just met them.
At the front of the group was a red haired young man, the same one that Lin Fan had just met at the karaoke place.
Lin Fan didn't have time to look over him last time, but now he had that free time. When he looked carefully at him, he realized that they were actually wearing very similar clothes.
When the boss of the noodle shop saw Yan Luo arrive, she couldn't help revealing a surprised look. Then after getting over that surprise, she turned to look at Lin Fan before shaking her head.
As Yan Luo was about to order, Lin Fan suddenly felt a sharp jolt of pain coming from his stomach. It continued to grow stronger until he couldn't take it anymore and he fell out of his seat.
His sudden actions attracted the attention of everyone around and they all came over to check up on him.
Only Lin Fan had paid enough attention to the owner of the cart to see her running off secretly. As she ran off, she couldn't help taking one last look at Lin Fan and Yan Luo who had now moved over to join the crowd around Lin Fan.
It didn't take a genius to notice what had happened.
The boss of the noodle cart had clearly poisoned Lin Fan, but she had mistaken him for Yan Luo…
Lin Fan never would have imagined that one of the ways he would die would be an accidental poisoning.
But after getting over his surprise, Lin Fan realized that something was off.
This was his last choice and yet it had turned out like this…
Did that mean that the system never gave him a correct choice?
If that were true, how was he even supposed to finish this quest?
Lin Fan had a bitter smile as the last moments of his life came and then the flash of white light appeared.
"Host's vital signs have stopped, host has been confirmed to be dead."
"The host will now be loaded from the last save point."
"Load complete. Loads remaining: 2/5."
With another flash of light, Lin Fan was back in the main lobby of this building, but this time he was no longer as calm and collected as last time.
In front of him, all the options that the system had offered him were completely greyed out and there were no options for him to choose from.
All of these options had ended in death or potential death for him.
Did that mean that there were no correct choices?
But how could that be? This system was here to help him and if none of the choices were correct, what would that even mean?
Lin Fan knew what that would mean, but he didn't want to face that fact.
It would mean that the system wasn't there to help him at all, it was just there to guide him to these targets…
Could it be that the person who created the system was just using him for fun?
Lin Fan angrily shouted in his mind, "System, get out here right now! What is with these choices, all of them resulted in me dying! Explain yourself right now!"
The system's voice came out and said, "Host, these are only suggestions that the system offers, it is up to the host to follow these suggestions."
Lin Fan was stunned when he heard this, but then he said, "Explain what you mean by suggestions."
The system said, "Host, these are all actions that you have taken in a previous alternate world."
Lin Fan slowly began to understand what this meant as he said, "Then you mean all of these were…"
The system said, "Correct, these were actions that ended in failure in the alternate worlds. The system was only providing them as a suggestion in hopes that the host could find inspiration on what to do from them."
Lin Fan really wanted to curse out the system, but he knew that there was no point.
The only thing that this proved was that even though the system said that it was here for him, it really wasn't on his side either. The only thing he could believe in was himself…
So Lin Fan chose to ignore the system this time and fell into deep thought.
Even though those three choices had all failed him, he still did get quite a bit of information. Moreover, there was one important contact that he made that he could get some help from.
Perhaps that was worth those three loads, but Lin Fan still felt a strange feeling deep down.
He didn't ask to be put in this world, but he had thought that the system would at least be on his side. Now it turned out that he couldn't even trust his system.
He understood that he was alone in this…
It was a feeling of being betrayed even though the system wasn't really his partner or anything to begin with.
Lin Fan sorted out all the various information that he had received and then came up with a plan.
His first step was to get into the penthouse that was at the top of this building and while he didn't know how he would do it, he did have an idea of who would be able to help him.
So Lin Fan went into the elevator and headed off to the fifth floor to find that person.
This time, he wouldn't rely on the system anymore, he would do all of this himself.
After all, the only person that one could really trust was themselves.
He wouldn't do this again and again, he would end it with this load.
