Chapter 1 - How it all started

Is there a time in life when you felt like, you had a right to ask from which family you want to be born in and not just being brought forth to for your parents mistakes? Before I met Christ that was exactly my thoughts . I was only 3 years old when my parents decided to divorce. I knew nothing that was happening by then, but my siblings and I became the victims.

They called her Dolly, the short form of Dolphine,a 2nd born of her mum,Dolly has 4 siblings from the mum's side, but on her dad's side , sorry did not tell you when she was born,,she was born on the 4th of April 1993.

When the parents divorced it was the beginning of everything, she knew so less of what was going on ,though she felt the difference because of how the step- mother who had replaced her mum was treating her.

The dad was a military man who was always out and about ,meaning he knew nothing or he did not care about what was going on in the family. When the divorce happened the mum went with the younger kid who was only 4 months old. Others remained and were forced to grow up at such a tender age. If you are born in Africa you will understand what it means to live In the village, going to fetch water and firewood in far places .

By the way I am Dolly and trust me surviving the torture and everything that comes with being raised by a step mom is a testimony.

She could spit on the ground and order us to go fetch water and make sure we are back before the spit dries up. It might sound funny but when i remember it,it brings me to tears, like why would you mistreat innocent children?until now I have no answer to that.

Also because my dad was not around most of the time, what she would do was to either give us the food remains or let us starve. I ask myself now that i remember it,how comes our relatives were not helping or saying anything about it?of course they saw all that, since we were staying in the same compound with our dad's relatives, but blood means nothing you can find a brother in a stranger than your blood .

We had a maid and a step sister who was way older than us (She was born out of wedlock),instead of them treating us as family, its like we had to receive hatred from our step mum and them too. For us to be given food, there was a long process and not that the food was worthy it ,but at least to have the little they were giving us,sometimes we would have to go on our knees,my step sister would insist that she should be dressed her underwear and only after that we would receive food. It was that bad,but we would find ourselves doing, for we needed food.

Those days it was in the year 2001 we did not have electricity and because we slept in the kitchen which was separate from the main house, (am sorry if not all of you can relate)we did not have oil in the lamp almost all the time, and it is not that we had decent beddings either,we had some rags that we would bring out in the evening when the moon was out, spread them then holding carefully all sides take them back in the kitchen floor. When it was time to sleep ,we did not have enough blankets so our maid and step sister would use what was there and we had to coil ourselves into the clothes that we were wearing .

At that time my step mum had 2 kids and they both slept with her so .

It was really hard for us even going to school we lacked the basics and some teachers would take advantage of that to torture us. In 2004 my mum came back but she was given another place to stay, so we went and stayed with her,
