Once upon a time there lived a giant called Jack. He was very strong and had a big appetite. He used to invade a nearly village where he would grab and eat 29 sheep and cows every day. The people were terrified of him and they decided to leave the village at midnight. However, as the villagers left in a hurry, they forgot to wake an orphan called Peter.
When Peter woke u the following m0rning he found he was all alone in the whole village. He cried and cried calling out for his friends. Then he decided to climb over a big hill to see if he could see anybody but instead he saw the giant. The giant told him that he would eat him! Peter begged not to be eaten and the giant gave him two choices. The first choice was to e his son and to run him errands and the second was to be the giant's meal.
Peter chose the first choice , and off he followed the giant to his homestead. When they reached the giants' house, Peter was amazed to see that the giant had his own animals . He wondered why the giant chose to steal the village animals yet he had his own. Whenever the giant felt hungry , he would pick an animal and swallow it whole.
Then Peter got thirsty. Instead of giving him water by a cup, the giant led him to the nearby big river. Peter cut a yam's leaf and drunk to his fill. However, the giant laughed at him and shoved him aside, bent and in a few, drank all the water in the river.
One day, Peter said that he was very hungry. The giant cut up one of his cows and gave him half of it. Peter ate the meat in small pieces and the giant told him that he was eating slowly. He grabbed Peter's piece and ate it all up and the young boy started getting afraid that one day he would be eaten.
One night , Peter decided to run away from the giant's home. He ran as fast as his small legs could carry him. When morning came, the giant woke up and looked for Peter, but he couldn't find him. He was furious . He ran out of his house fast, climbed over a big hill but couldn't find the boy . He climbed another hill but still he couldn't find him. He climbed the last remaining hill and finally saw Peter. When Peter looked back and saw the giant, he was frightened. He knew if the giant caught him he would punish him hard for trying to run away. The giant rambled and hit his chest hard in anger as he ran after him. The rumbles were as loud as thunder and he started crying and that is why when it rains those are Peter's tears falling down to the ground and the thunder is the giants rumble.
