Chapter 7 - VI. Inappropriate

Chapter 6

It was already midnight when Miss Dolores decided to have a private interaction with him aside from the awkward and secret glances she kept on giving me whenever I bump into her in the hallways.

My roommate Martha almost caught me sneaking out of the room. Thank the heavens for that because if and only if she found out, she'll think i'm trying to elope or something teenagers in this era usually do.

I'm afraid she'll give me thousand of sermons like how Grandpa always do. And I have this feeling that victorian grandmas are different when it comes to scolding.

It would be a total embarrassment for the whole Bennett Household if people found out one of Bennett's plain maid did something unacceptable.

I have so many questions in my head right now so I decided not to ask them all for I know she'll get annoyed.

"Where's Mr. Douglas Bennett? Too bad I didn't found him, I planned on killing him on my very first day but I can't find him." I asked as I jumped around her bed.

And up to now, I am still doing my best to find Douglas Bennett but no luck. God knows how many times I wanted to just ask the other maids but i'm afraid it'll be the number one suspect if ever they found their employer's lifeless body.

Wow, where did I get this confidence? Will I really have the courage to kill a man?

Anyways, I am in Miss Dolores' chambers and oh my gosh, it is everything I want. This room has a princess-y vibes on it.

Miss Dolores just playfully scoffed at me while hiding her laughter.

Then it hit me, perhaps she began seeing me as a teenager who likes jumping around fluffy beds. What's next? Pillow fights? Well, I have to admit, that doesn't sound so bad!

I jumped out of the bed which made Miss Dolores flinched because of the sound I just created.

"Keep your voice down. It's not right for a girl like you or anyone in general to say bold things like that. Anyways, you can do your mission after he came back from his trip." she assured as she smoothens the bed. I felt bad for I am the reason why it was absolutely messy.

"Besides, don't you want that? At least you have more time to prepare," as she shrugged then sat in her comfortable bed.

"Prepare for what? On how to kill him?" I said followed with a snort.

Miss Dolores stared at me for three seconds or what then said, "who knows?"

Suddenly, that brought me chills because she sure was not messing around with me when she told me my very mission.

Gosh, I really do have to kill someone, huh. I didn't realize it'll be a serial killer at the age of nineteen. Believe me, I do like pictures but that doesn't mean I like mugshots.

"And before I forgot, Clementine. Your grandfather and I think that the best way for you to accomplish your mission is by staying low. Do not let anyone suspect you." Miss Dolores said, her hands on her laps.

"So be careful especially with Mr. Douglas Bennett's son Augustus Bennett. I heard he sure is a pain in the ass." She added but my mind cannot digest what he just said. Grandpa has something to do with all these?

"So Grandpa knew about this? How can he let this happen?" I began walking around the room. Furious.

I want to punch someone right now. I felt so betrayed.

"Like I said, Clementine. This is your destiny ever since you've been born. That is why your grandpa already accepted it." She explained.

"I know but still!"

Why didn't Granpa warned me about this? That by the time I'm 18, i'll be transported into this era.

"Off you go, child. I still need to rest." MissDolores said as she waved her hand, indication that I need to get out.

"News flash, Ms. Dolores. So far, so bad in this place!" I hollered and with that, I waved back, frowning.

"Clementine, my dear. Only time will tell." With that, my heart skipped a beat.

"And remember what I kept on telling you, be careful with your actions or else you'll just found yourself forever imprisoned here in the year 1888," was the last words I heard from Miss Dolores before I left her bedroom.

As I walk my way towards the maid's room, I cannot help myself from stomping due to frustration which can be heard around the hallway.

The hallways were now dark to the point i'm afraid to stumble into one of their expensive furnitures or glasses.

I even began walking faster for the sight of the paintings scares me. They seriously look so creepy, as if they were looking directly to my eyes.

I seriously did lost my balance and fell to the floor when someone faked a cough behind me. Plus, I also hit my foot to the wooden table. Ouch!

Here we go again with meeting the awkwardest guy in this household and in this era.

I quickly massaged my right foot for it really did hurts from falling. I know I won't die from just a simple fall but still!

What the hell was wrong with this guy and what was why strolling around as if he was the boss. Then it hit me, he really was the boss. He was the son of the man I am supposed to kill. Augustus Bennett.

I look at him angrily because of what he did and man, he seriously looks like he just murdered someone for guilt can be seen everywhere in his face.

His hands were behind his back and he was still wearing his top hat, as usual. Like I said, was he a magician or something?

"S-sorry," he uttered, then lifts his hat for a second then quickly extend his right hand to me for me to stand. I also noticed that his hand was sweating. Plus, his eyes kept dancing around for it to avoid my eyes.

Do I have dirt in my face? Anyways, I ignored his hand and told myself that I can do this without his help. I don't any debt from this awkward and sweaty guy.

You can call me whatever you want but that is what I am especially to boys like him.

"I don't need any help from you or from that stupid friend of yours." I angrily uttered as I tried standing up but unfortunately, I can't. Damn this body!

I knew I should be acting like a victorian lady should act but I am just so annoyed at what Miss Dolores just revealed to me. That Grandpa knew all about this and still, he let his granddaughter suffer.

"W-Will you please accept my hand, Miss Wright? I swear, I'll pretend nothing happened." he explained, his hand still in front of me.

"Considering that a man like me and a woman like you shouldn't meet in hours like this," he added, his eyes now fixed on me.

I gave him one short look once again and rolled my eyes heavenwards. I know boys like him! He and his annoying friend were just like the sons and grandsons of Grandpa's business partners.

Again, I just ignored him and there it was again, his cough. Is he sick? Or coughing is just one of his odd obsession?

I look at him again but this time, I saw him holding back a smile which made me more annoyed. I want to punch his face. Do I look like a source of entertainment? Is it funny watching me look like a stupid maid here?

I seriously cannot stop myself from gasping when I felt his hands. D-did he just carried me? I can feel his warm hands under my knees and around my waist.

"Put me down." I hollered as I covered my face for my face was as red as a tomato.

"Forgive me, Miss Wright, for what I just did but you're stubborn as hell," he said while carrying me and kept on walking towards the maid's room which was just a few meters away from us.

I can tell he was also surprised from what he just did for his neck and his ears are all red. Plus, he can't stare directly to my eyes.

"About my friend, he can sometimes be a bit annoying but he has a heart made of gold. Believe me." he added when we're close to the maid's chamber, breaking the ice.

I rolled my eyes heavenwards again for I know his statement is 100% bias. What can I expect?

"D-don't go stomping around like that again, everyone is already sleeping." he added which made me give him a short glance. But long enough for him to notice I was staring.

Shoot! Perhaps this guy will start thinking I am head-over-heels to him!

"Again, sorry for what I just did, Miss Wright. I know it is absolutely inappropriate for me to touch you so forgive me. I won't let this happen again," he uttered, my eyes was staring at his adam's apple for an unknown reason.

"A-Anyways, I'll just leave you here for I know Missis Dolores would be angry as hell when he found out about this," he commented as he slowly put me down to a chair just beside the maid's room.

I just stared at our shoes with my hands on my lap. Hoping he'll just walk away and that this would be our last meeting.

"Like I said, Miss Wright, I'll forget about what just happened for your own sake." his hands on his pockets and he slightly changed his top hat's position.

"Well, if that makes you sleep at night, Augustus." I exclaimed, my eyes still glued on our shoes.

"W-what?" He asked and when I look up and look at him straight in the eyes which he quickly cuts and went straight to his right, confusion can be seen in his face. His temple is still sweating.

"I said shut up, Augustus and before you go bragging about who's your father is, I don't care and will never be." I replied as I raised my brow. Hoping it would masked the awkward atmosphere.

Then I punched him in his arm for him to stop whatever he plans to say. I can tell he is once again shocked on what I just did but whatever.

I can tell he was about to say something but he instantly ran towards God knows where when we heard footsteps.

Then there I saw Martha with a candle on her hand, looking at me suspiciously. Because of the light coming from the candle, I can see her wrinkles and stare deeper in her tired eyes.

"What are you doing here in the middle of the night, Clementine?" she asked as she walked towards me.

I simply replied her a short smile and shrugged, "I-i guess I just sleepwalked?" then look sideways.

Then I heard a soft chuckle which made Martha look to the right and said, "Did you hear that?"

I quickly shook my head and snatched her hand, "it was probably just a mice playing with a cat," I reasoned out.

Please believe me on this, Martha. I just want to avoid trouble.

Like I said, I am a very, very bad liar but to my surprise, she released a laugh.

"Be careful, Clementine. Mr. Augustus has a habit of wandering around the house in the middle of the night." Martha warned me as she pinched me in the cheek. Ouch, that hurts.

"Beautiful girls like you shouldn't be wandering around the night." She added then pinched me deeper in the cheeks. I am not kidding, it really hurts.

After that traumatic pinched of her, Martha told me to stand up for us to go to the maid's room before Augustus Bennet catch us dillydallying in here.

She seemed to realized that I can't stand because she blew the candle and helped me stand up towards our way to the room.

When I look at my right, despite the darkness that enveloped us, I can feel that awkward guy's stares.

If only my mission is to kill him instead of his father, Mr. Douglas Bennett that I still haven't met then it would be my honor! I would gladly do so!
