Chapter06: The L World
[BRIDGETTE HENRY POV]
"MORRIGAN!"
Screaming the name on top of her lungs as she painfully watched the woman get struck by cold steel on her chest. The rosy essence spattered on her face was like the spit of death glistening under the light of the moon to mark her face. After the ominous shadow ended the knight's life, it hovered over her with an intent to slay her next. With the blood-soaked blade in hand, the menacing silhouette forced the sharp edges through her heart, and in her last breath, she swore hatred to the man who stole their life.
Waking up from the seething pain gave chills to her body. The never-ending dream she loathed came back to haunt her again. And though she yearned to glance at the knight's charming face, the agony of watching her die again and again was like torture in her head.
As she stood up from the queen size bed and entered the bathroom to take a shower, she recalled the day "her knight" was brought to life like a wish she asked for.
It was a fencing tournament where young lads like her compete. As she stood at the foot of the podium preparing for her duel, a lass with hair darker than night and shining like the moon captured her attention. The irises changing from blue to green at the reflection of the light captivated her as if cupid was alive and struck her heart right where she stood.
In her thoughts, she shouted, "It's my knight!" Living and breathing, unlike the dreadful dream she had. Pounding hard on her chest was her restless heart as she stared with yearning at the young lady standing in front of the stage to watch her fight.
When one of the staff called her up on the stage, she promised herself she'll win to impress the dame. If she gets to catch "her knight's" attention with her elegant techniques then it would be easy to capture the lady's heart and own it.
After the tournament, she searched for her everywhere but was saddened to learn the teenager left. Surprisingly, the next time she saw the young lady was at her school. When "her knight" approached her, she heard her heart sing like every step of the maiden towards her was momentous in her memory.
"Knight…Morrigan, Knight." the young lady introduced herself.
In her heart and mind, the name was engraved. But she couldn't let her join their team. Morrigan Knight was the talk of fencing clubs as a star apprentice and was expected to carry the Guardian Academy to the championship yet she was at their school wanting to prove herself. "And for what?" her mind wondered, hoping it wasn't to spy on their club.
"I'm sorry, your intentions might be noble but I can't let you join the club, Ms. Knight," she concluded with a heavy heart.
After the rejection, "her knight" became more determined to prove herself one of the best in fencing. And she was glad to see Morrigan's improvement day by day. Gradually, Ms. Knight began to have followers, people who adored the teenager made her jealous.
It felt like her heart would burst in pain whenever she would see "her knight" have girls around her. At a young age, Morrigan has chosen to announce her preference to like girls. A courageous decision for anyone at their age where sexuality could be exploited from fear of rejection. The social normality at that time was not favorable to them. Like any LGBTQ, she was bullied once because of it.
"Good morning, babe," a woman greeted her with her breathy voice.
Standing in front of the mirror, she stared at the thin arms wrapped around her waist. The sparkling diamond ring displayed on the lady's index finger brought a smile to her face. A half-naked actress and model Morwen Caddell kissed her neck as she fixed her outfit for work that day.
"Good morning."
"Come back to bed, babe…," Morwen teased, dragging her back to the bed.
"I have a 9 o'clock meeting today. I need to be early."
"Please…," the lady begged, pouting her lips.
As she gently landed a kiss on her fiance's lip, the woman pulled her back to bed by wrapping her arms around her neck. The actress giggled as she continued to peck on the woman's neck, shoulder, and cheeks.
"Why don't you visit me after lunch at the office?" she suggested and gently bit the woman's ear.
"Hmmm…," Morwen moaned to refuse her invitation, "I have a dress fitting after lunch with the bridal designers, remember? They want to feature me as the soon-to-be wife of the famous Tech Queen of the country."
"Isn't it bad to fit a dress before the wedding?"
"Do you still believe in superstitions? It's 2020, babe! Those who believe them died already," the actress scoffed.
"Fine. Just don't show it to me. I want to be surprised," she replied and lifted her body from the woman.
"It's not like you won't see it. Your company filters all the feeds from everyone who uses social media apps," Morwen blurted.
Instantly, her brows ruffled and her face dimmed. As the owner of one of the top cybersecurity companies, she has a responsibility not to divulge any information from any of the social media apps clients.
"Be careful who you tell that to, okay?" she warned, glaring fiercely at the actress.
"O-Of course, babe," her fiance stuttered from fear, "Stop looking at me like that, you're scaring me."
Standing from the bed, she walked back in front of the mirror and tidied up her dress. A government liaison officer asked for a meeting with her today and she knew it would be about her bid to get a contract with the British Intelligence. If they impress the official with their superior network system, they would be the first private contractor and like milking a cow, money would pour down to the company easily.
"I have a meeting with someone from MI6 today. I want that government contract done within this year."
"You will get it, babe! Don't worry," Morwen cheered and stood up from the bed following her every move.
When she was done checking herself in front of the mirror, she strutted towards the door of her apartment to leave.
"Bree, something for good luck?" the actress teased.
It was a tender kiss from the woman she didn't love. Yet, she chose to marry the beautiful actress as part of her achievement. In her heart, there was still one woman she yearned for but in her mind, she promised not to look for her again. As she once shouted from the rooftop of the school building, "I hate you, Morrigan!"
