Narukami. A spirit or a god....maybe gods?
The Narukami, or Raigin, is a god of lightning, thunder and storms in Japanese mythology and the Shinto religion. When lightning strikes beware of the Narukami.
Driving is relaxing. Especially in the rain. I drive slow. Not because it's the law but because I need time to think. What am I gonna say when I see Kim and my "daughter"? According to my ex girlfriend Kim after we had a special night together six years ago we ended up creating the most adorable thing in the history of mankind....MY DAUGHTER! And holy crap she's so cute. Her big brown eyes, her caramelized skin, that tiny nose, her godly smile....gah! Did I mention how adorable she is. Even from a few photos sent to me by Kim I can't believe how perfect she is. She's so happy too. What I really can't believe is how we made her. I mean I look good. And Kim looks real good...but I'm just doing this crazy math in my head and its like our daughter(who currently is nameless) took all of our attractive traits and God turned is up to 100% cuteness.....I may be developing a bit of a problem here....
Currently I'm heading to Kim's current residence which happens to be in the forest. She told me over the phone she had homeschooled our child but other than that she refused to say more until I came to her home. I was suppose to come tomorrow but I couldn't wait.
Kim"s home is close to the mountainous region of Seyuta. Which is about twelve miles outside of the city. The road an be quite rocky but honestly it's refreshing. I'm an adventurer so the smooth family life without many responsibilities is....too normal. Many people will probably believe being a parent would be the opposite of what I'm looking for but I think parenting is the adventure I need. I've seen so many things in my time traveling the world. I've seen come across a man capable of bending light to his will, a woman who cursed a man to "death", a child who transformed into a giant ball with teeth and ate a village full of people. Surviving and solving most of these I have learned that I definitely need a brake from that kind of "fun". I mean when ya see long tall men in suits taking away children at night to another dimension, that's a sign to give it up. I've also gotten pretty wealthy in my travels. For instance. I'm actually a billionaire. My brothers don't know that but if they did they'd look at me like I'm crazy. I hide it because I want to heal with my brothers without the prospect of money getting in the way. Not saying my siblings are so shallow....just that money has a way of making you "need" it.
The path veers off into a dirt road. I can see the trees in the forest coming up. Im still a ways off.
I see the light is turning to darkness. Daylight is no longer visible. Lightning begins to strike. Though it seems rather close. I keep on the path. The road is barely visible. The rain is hitting harder than before. Almost like I drove headfirst into a heavy rainstorm. The news called for light rain but I'm in the mountainous region and in my experience weather in the mountains are highly unpredictable. Actually with my luck I'm bound to run into trouble. I think to go tomorrow morning because the sun is down but I've already come this far. I should only be about a few miles away from the home. I've been checking the address as well. From what I gather the townsfolk of both Sayuta and New Sayuta have seen a young child and someone fitting Kim's description in town and that they most likely lived at an old home in the mountains. I had the area circled on a map i got for free at a local restaurant. Don't tell Son I've eaten there or else he'll freak.
At this point I'm reading the map. Somehow I feel rusty...or is this anxiousness? Either way something feels off.
"BOOM!" Lightning strikes again but closer. Its unnatural. I stop the vehicle. That was a bit of a scare...of the supernatural kind. I see lights far off in the distance. I hear a man grunting. Curiosity takes me. I let my vehicle cruise into a prairie. Now I see them. It looks like six men fighting. I think one of them is an officer from Seyuta. He's in uniform i hear gunshot go off. He's shooting at three others in Japanese oni-style outfits. A native American spirit fights alongside the officer. The officer must be a shaman. Shamans have the capabilities to interact and call upon the help of spirits from the spirit world. But there are two separate spirit worlds, not exclusive to Native American mythology. The Underworld and the Uperworld. Uperworld holds benevolent spirits akin to angelic creatures or gods while Underworld hold demons and other such things I don't want to begin to think about. For example the three spirits fighting the shaman and his spirit are Narukami. Raigin. Or Japanese lightning spirits. Question is why are they in America? Cultural spirits such as Narukami can't exactly come to other countries due to the forbidden mixing of other cultures. Spirits respect this line and boarder. So it's very strange that these Japanese lightning spirits are not only here in America but thy are trying to kill a shaman from America and an American spirit.
I would get out to help but I'm not currently equipped to fight a few Raigin. Also this fight was over before it began. Fighting one Raigin is bad enough due to how insanely fast and strong they are. Not trying to knock the spirit this shaman's spirit but its obvious it can't hold its own against level 3 spirits like Raigin. In the world I now know spirits are categorized in levels 1 to 8. Levels threes aren't too strong by themselves but they are quite dangerous in a group especially if that spirit has been blessed with an element. Spirits can take on elemental powers in nature due to the blessing of the reigning spirit of that particular element. In this case it is lightning. Raigin are given the lightning element due to their nature of residing in the skies.
The shaman's spirit doesn't seem to hold an element from what I can see so it's probably a level 2. Any spirit below level three are incapable of holding elemental power. In battles between spirits power and authority is everything. Having elemental power gives a spirit authority.
The Native American spirit is defeated and the shaman is impaled. He dies by the oni and now they have a new target. Me. I get out of the vehicle grab my Spirit stick from my glove compartment. I got it during my trip from Tibet. It keeps me from getting lost and it allows me to read the spiritual power of every living and non living entity. If I strike something with my Spirit Stick ill always find my way back to it. If I strike a human with this i can either stop the flow of spiritual power or I can intensify spiritual power. If i strike a spirit they are temporally immobilized. I run off and slide down a muddy hill. Lightning strikes in my direction. The ground behind me explodes and mud slam into my back. I turn around seeing now five Raigin standing at the top of the hill looking down at me.
Its time to run.
