Nalan opened her eyes, and looked around to see the unfamiliar white room.
' Am I dreaming?' She questioned herself as she scanned her surroundings. She definitely knew that she was dreaming. The wound the succubus had inflicted on her was not something she could heal…or maybe she could but not at this stage. She couldn't heal a cut , talk less of a deep stab.
Actually…there are some people who wouldn't die so fast from a stab in the stomach. She was one of those people. But if help doesn't come immediately, she would bleed to death. This semi-unconscious
state ….. People say when one is dying their life flashes before their eyes.' Is that what's happening right now ? '
The brown door of the room seems incompatible with the room. Nalan stared at the wooden brown door, which looked kind of familiar.
Nalan had a feeling the door was calling to her ; however, her mind refused it, alarmed of what would be waiting on the other side. But , then again! Her feet seemed to have suddenly developed a mind of their own and started to move towards the door.
Standing in front of the obstacle, preventing her from seeing what's behind it, her hand developed its consciousness , shot forward, and twisted the knob . With a click, the door opened .
Light burst into the room and shone brightly blinding her eyes!
Nalan reflexly covered her eyes, and waited for a few minutes for the light to recede.
Feeling the decrease in intensity, she slowly peeked through the slip of her fingers, making her eyes adjust to the light, before totally removing her hand to see a breath-taking garden filled with dozens of flowers rowing from blue hydrangea to jasmine. There were also well trimmed green tree shrubs, separating the flowers from each other. Or otherwise serving as an intersection.
' This…?' Nalan strolled through the beautiful garden of endless flowers, with her hands out. Her fingertips slowly stroked the petals. She even stopped a few times to sniff their fresh fragrance.
This garden belonged to her mother and daughter( technically refers to her). They had started cultivating this since she was two months old. Gradually, through the years, before it became this. It had been a while….
Nalan didn't care whether it was a dream. To her, it felt real. And that's what matters. Because what she was seeing was once existing. For her to still be able to see this means that it's still existing, even if she can only see it in her dream.
" Hahaha..!" " Hahaha…!"
Nalan was interrupted by the melodious laughter of a familiar woman. Her hands trembled and her eyes opened wide. She lunged forward, and walked briskly towards the source of laughter.
However, the garden of flowers was endless. The more she walked, the more the sound kept getting closer. But it seems as if she was walking backwards.
The laughter became louder, making her desperation reach its peak. From the corner of her eyes, she caught two figures in a simple blue gown crouched down in front of a seedling, with their long shoulder length blonde hair fluttering due to the gentle breeze. She would never mistake those icy warm blue eyes.
Nalan slowly approached the duo, and called out, " Mummy…" , but she received no response. They didn't seem to acknowledge her presence, like she was invisible to them . It was to be expected since it's a dream.
She watched from the sidelines as her younger self and mother took care of the seedlings, and exchanged words that led to boisterous laughter in the process. They were unrestrained, and happy. This was the side of her mother she wished to see. Although it is a dream, she is satisfied. If she can only meet her mother in her dream, it would be great.
The two planted more seeds of flowers, and watered them. The sun set slowly , and the emergence of the moon began. The atmosphere was a bit cold. And their work had come to an end.
Just then , a series of loud voices rang out.
" Nalan! Nalan! Where are you?"
" Nalan! It's time. "
" Let's go. "
The younger version of Nalan turned her head around, with a large happy smile on her face, and answered back, " I am coming!"
Her mother chuckled, and helped in washing off the mud on her small chubby hands. " Come back early to eat dinner. " She said sternly, after Nalan's hands were clean.
" Okay! Wait for me." She giggled and ran out of the garden.
Seeing her younger self going out, Nalan tried to stop her, but her hands just passed through. Since she could not stop the girl, she decided to stay behind, but she wasn't in control here . Her feet moved on their own towards the direction her younger self had gone.
Nalan tried to stay , but couldn't. Fresh tears fell from her eyes, as she desperately shouted out, " Mother go after me. There's danger ahead!" But her mother couldn't see or hear her.
" This….is my dream. I can't change what has already happened. " A sad smile appeared, and she stopped resisting, allowing her legs to lead the way.
