Chapter 20 - E4 C4 Billowing Smoke

Verdan gazed out the open door of the cockpit. Staring in horror of the burning factory. That was in all intensive purposes standing only because of sheer will power. If buildings had will that is. But it was the closest thing she could equate it to. As the airship circled around the building. She could barely make out two individuals standing to the buildings rear.

"Bring us down over there!" She said over the crafts mic system. Indicating where she wanted the pilots to land. Upon starting their descent she would take notice of a few openings in what was once the roof of the factory. If Kersay was in there. She needed to get out of there, and quickly. Or else, well or else nothing good would come from the situation as it stood.

Once they had landed. Verdan and her partner Uros. A swan faunus, who held a weird sense of drunken grace to them as they glanced to the pink and black haired teens before them.

"Who the fuck are you too?" Uros questioned without a second thought.

"Who the fuck are you?" The girl with black hair questioned taking a drag from her cigarette. Raising a curious brow at the girl. Verdan mentally questioned just how legal what she was currently doing was. Not that it was something she currently needed to be focusing on.

"Ignoring my partner for the moment. We were set from beacon officials, and the officials of the city to investigate what was going on here. May I ask which one of you two placed the call?" Verdan questioned.

Looking to Carter. Lilac didn't know if they could be trusted or not. Especially considering what they had just witnessed. Especially with the vibe that the woman was giving off. And yet the hovercraft they arrived in. Held the logo of Vale. Which from what she could tell, was pretty official as it was.

"I did" Carter said after a moment of apprehension. Deciding to trust the two at their word. "And that was before everything was engulfed by flames."

"And were there any others with you?" Uros questioned more reasonably this time. And with far less drunken hostility in his voice.

Indicating to the factory Carter let out a worried breath. Which surprised him. He was worried about his competition. Of course he would be. He had morals and common decency. At least most of the time he did.

"They're still inside. If we weren't about to fall over as it was from our injuries. We would've went back in for them. But there is this crazy psychopath inside in there that last we saw was coming after us."

Looking to her partner. Verdan didn't like the sound of that. Before taking a deep breath and looking into the flames of the blazing factory. "I'm going in."

"What are you crazy? The building is due to crumble any minute now." Uros said. Being the voice of drunken caution. "But then again. Why do I care. I get paid whether this mission is a success or failure anyway."

Upon hearing those frustrating words. Verdan decided to go ahead and enter the fiery inferno.

Upon being left alone with children. Uros instinctively reached into his side pouch pulling out a flask and indicating to the hovercraft. "Get on and let the medics take care of you. I am going to keep an eye on things here and be ready just in case Verdan needs a hand."

"And why is it that you aren't going in with her?" Lilac found herself questioning. "Aren't you two partners?"

"We may be partners. But it is because, we are both solo huntsmen. We go in as a team, and handle specific parts of it solo. Never together."

Carter frowned upon hearing those words. He didn't know if that was what he was to expect becoming a huntsman, or were those two just a special case of their own? There was no was of telling. But they also didn't look the gift horse in the mouth, and not take the help that was offered. So they went into the hovercraft to receive medical treatment.

Well at least that was what they thought they were going to receive. Until Uros made a loud whistle sound with his fingers that caused for a group of four men to move from the cargo bay of the hover craft. Two holding pairs of cuffs in their hands. And all of them staring down at both Lilac and Carter. As a wave of fear washed over them.

"Hey man! What's the meaning of this?! We're the ones who called in the illegal crap!" Carter yelled in protest as he struggled against the man. Looking to Lilac. Who wasn't doing much better. He mentally made a call. One that wouldn't go well for him in the long run. But he activated his semblance. And shunted himself away from the group. And away from Lilac.

Kersay rushed through the burning down factory as fast as she could. Trying to dodge falling debris from crushing them, and making this attempt for naught. Why in the world did she think that nothing was going to go wrong at all?

Hurrying with Loki in her grasp. She tried as best as she could not to drop him. For the last thing she wanted to do was have brought him this far, only to ruin it. It was truly a fate she didn't wish for some arrogant asshole who saved her life. Even if he seemed to deserve it.

Eventually they would make their way out getting closer and closer to their exits. As through the billowing smoke. Kersay saw the feint outline of a woman. Searching through the rubble seeming to be looking for someone. Maybe her?

Not knowing if she should take the chance. Kersay would adjust her grip on the still unconscious Loki who let out a low groan. Seeing as he wasn't dead yet. It was enough to make her feel confident in her actions of having gone and retrieved him.

"Kersay! Where are you?! It is me Verdan! Ozpin sent me to retrieve you!" The voice of Verdan echoed out. Confirming that it was someone that Kersay knew rather personally. A huntress who had been appointed as one of her personal body guards. And held a lot more authority than most other huntsmen and huntresses in the kingdom.

"I'm over here! I got a wounded student! He and his friends helped me escape getting kidnapped!" Kersay yelled back in response. Hurrying as she dragged Loki along. Feeling her muscles almost bulge from moving the weight of this man.

Running through the flames. Verdan paused the moment she saw Kersay. And the young man she was dragging. Frowning a bit. She noticed his black clothes, were much darker than the natural black tone they would typically hold. Which made her realize just exactly how much blood he was losing.

Rushing over. Verdan grabbed the other side of Loki. Helping move him from the burning factory. "You do know all of them are going to be interrogated right?" Verdan informed Kersay. Who's soot covered face paled from what she was being told.

"They fought to save my life. And the thanks they are getting is an interrogation?!"

"I don't make the rules. And Ozpin will want to meet the three to be students who happened to be right where they were conveniently needed." Verdan spoke in a grim tone. As they approached the airship. Had they been any slower. And Loki most likely. Would've died.
