Chapter 4 - The little things

Blake Noel is a simple man that wishes to live in peace. He believes the responsibility of life is enough for him. Blake spends his time studying parasites and bacteria, nurturing and spreading life. At a young age he became fascinated with parasites, especially those that grow within us. Blake pictures himself as a lifeline to these creature compared to a whole planet of sorts. Just living no matter the consequences or situations. Similar to humans on our world and how we live.

Now we see Blake starting his simple day at his simple job for his responsibility of life.

"Good morning sir, how can I help you?"

cheerfully greeted by the waitress.

Blake Noel approaches her, flashing his Health Inspector Badge as if he is a federal agent. Although technically Blake is if you think about it.

"Mr. Noel, we've been expecting you. I'll bring you to our manager. Mr. Mato been working hard to meet your expectations." said by the waiter in her same cheerfull tone almost sounding rehearsed.

Before leaving Blake noticed her smile says she loves her job, however the bags under her eyes suggests many late nights. Her name tag, that says Cloe, is slightly crooked which says she had a late start due to her late nights.

As Blake is escorted by the insomniac Cloe, he studied the restaurant responsible for Cloes and her co-workers late nights.

The restaurant, named Tomato Yard, is quaint with its checkered table cloth which have nothing to do with Italy, Buffet line up full of different types of pasta and Ceasar salad, or what Blake thinks is type of salad, leading to deserts and sweets that fulfill the American dream.

Cloe continues leading Blake to the kitchen where the Buffet is prepared, revealing a short, stout man whose bald head resembles a tomato with a red face likely from yelling;

"How long has this chicken pasta been here? It's freaking dry! How do you make dry pasta!MIKE! I need you to stop slacking and move!" Shouted the red man.

A teenage boy with blonde hair stood up from scrubbing the floors to tend the dry chicken pasta as if held at gun point.

The red man continued shouting, "Christ it's hard find decent teenagers nowadays!"

Cloe stuttered, "M-Mr. Mato?"

"WHAT!"

Cloe flinched as if he struck her. She replied hesitantly, "Mr. Noel, the health inspector is here sir."

The red man, Mr. Mato, cleared his throat as well as his attitude to greet The Health Inspector as if dawning a new mask and personality.

Mr. Mato began his greeting with a calm fake tone ,

" Mr. Blake Noel, renowned Health Inspector and Doctor! Pleasure to meet you! Thomas Mato."

Thomas Mato shook hands with Blake, whom is holding back a laugh thinking about his name;

Thomas Mato

Tom Mato

No wonder he's so angry. His bald red head doesn't help.

"I'm not really a doctor." Blake corrected him. "I simply study parasites and bacteria."

"Which you'll find none of here! Our Buffet is germ free and in top shape! Lemme show you around!" Boasted by Thomas Mato.

This is followed by ramblings of a short and short tempered man who has no clear or distinct idea how to run an Italian Buffet.

Blake paid no mind to this. Mold was to a minimum. There are no clear signs of dampness or uncleanliness in the kitchen. Blake can tell that some corners are cut with the lack of gloves or the wrong brand of detergent for the dishwasher. or merely using detergent at all. Overall, Blake can sum this Buffet up with a pass needing improvement.

Blake has only 2 crucial objectives in mind. first, He gave his number to Cloe, who held a face of shock.

Blake reassured her with; "This isnt what you think." he chuckles. This is for if Mr. Mato gets out of hand or if you need to report something. I noticed how your manager treats you and Mike. i may not be in charge of this district, however if you two need anything, please, do not hesitate to call me."

Cloe's face lit up as she replied; "Thank you, its been pretty ridiculous lately."

"I can see that. Including the vein about to burst from Mr. Tom-mato's head! Jokes aside, I have one last inspection. The Buffet line itself. We need to check the trays and the heaters that keep said trays warm for customers."

Still laughing at Blake's Mr. Tom-mato joke, she guides him to the Buffet line where they begin their inspection with Blake asking Cloe;

"Would you mind checking under the tables where the heaters are? there should be a green light indicating they are on."

Cloe, already below, chirped "on it sir!"

With Cloe below, Blake began inspecting the trays full of food. He knew the trays were fine, he revealed his true intentions with at small bag from his coat full of what appeared to be white powder. He sprinkled the contents over the food with haste.

The white powder Blake sprinkles are eggs called Ascaris parasite. They are a type of worm that live in the intestine. they are completely harmless except for mild diarrhea and stomach pain.

Euphoria overwhelmed Blake as he spread his children. He admits this is almost a fetish through how much pleasure he feels.

Everyone must join he thought to himself. This is how we spread life.

After he was finished, Blake called Cloe up to confirm that everything was green, she rose with a bright smile on her face, Blake can't help reacting the same way with such a contagious smile.

Ironic. Blake thought to himself in humor.

Cloe's smile is almost as contagious as the Ascaris.

Blake felt moreso proud of himself for accomplishing his responsibility of life.
