It's been two days since he's broken into the abandoned building and I still haven't come any closer to discovering who this man is. He hasn't come back to the shed to visit which is hindering my investigation. What I do know is, this freak has some kind of fetish for the mannequins and the girls he's taken are related. How they're related remains to be seen.
I haven't been anywhere in two days because I want to be here when he does come back; although, I'm starting to wonder if I can catch this guy on my own. The idea of me catching him has been a desire of mine since the cops had given up. I may need an extra set of eyes on him. I could ask my new friends, Laura and Chaney. The question is, how would I ask them? What would I say? "Hey ladies, my sister was recently taken and murdered, that's why I'm out here on my own. I need to find the man who took her. Oh and Chaney you look a lot like my sister, so you might be able to help, but you might be in danger too." Saying it out loud sounds ridiculous and will probably scare them off, yet I have to try.
I believe them giving me my sister's perfume was a sign from my sister. A sign that they could help and also a sign to watch out for Chaney. Chaney seems like she'd be tough, they don't exactly have it easy living in an RV park. There are a lot of creepy men that reside there. My instincts tell me Chaney may already be on his radar. If she's aware of this man, then maybe there's a small chance she can protect herself. I say small for the reason that this man is calculated and experienced. He's kidnapped several girls and isn't even on the authorities' radar.
With my new plan in place, I decide to head back to the RV park. This building is giving me the creeps anyways. I can't have this asshole get the jump on me. If he does, I'm done for good. His presence has left an ominous aura that's lingering in every crack and crevice of this place. It's starting to feel like the atmosphere of the shed and I don't like it.
"Come on Happy. Let's take another trip to the RV Park," I tell her affectionately. She wags her tail and runs to the back door. Maybe I can take another shower while I'm there too. I have no desire to smell the way I have been lately. Smelling like a barn animal in this heat makes the smell worse for me and other people.
When Happy and I get there, Chaney is standing outside the gate to the RV Park talking to an older man with a pot belly and a mustache. I frown when I see her. This guy is at least 10 years older than her. I quicken my pace and say, "Hey! I thought I would come back and visit." I smile at her, pretending not to notice this strange man, who is now staring at me. Happy growls and the man steps back. She senses my agitation and steps in front of me. He doesn't say anything, though. He puts his hands up in defeat and leaves.
"Hey girl! What's up?" She asks, unfazed by Happy's behavior towards the man.
"Who was that?"
"Oh, that's just Greg. He's my mom's friend."
"Oh…" I state, unsure of what else to say.
"Look at you giving him the stink eye. You and Happy don't like him, huh?" She laughs and looks over her shoulder to make sure he's nowhere in sight.
"Was it that obvious?" I smirk.
"Yes!"
"Sorry...you remind me of my sister. My protection detection is on high alert right now."
"Protection detection?" She raises her eyebrows, giving me a questioning look.
"Yeah, it's when my protective instincts kick in. I can easily detect a creep without even meeting them. It's a gift," I shrug my shoulders.
She shakes her head and grabs my arm, sniffing my body. "You smell better. Here for another shower?"
"Yeah and to talk to you and your mom about something."
"Okay….what about?"
"Something important, but I want to talk to both of you."
"Alright! She is on the phone right now with one of her friends. How about I take Happy to get food and water while you go take a shower. Then, we can talk."
"Okay. Thank you, Chaney." She smiles, showing off her mouth full of metal and strolls over to a newer RV parked by a shade tree.
As I head over to the showers with my bag, I get the chills and turn to my left. Greg, the dirty pig, is smirking at me. He gives me a small wave. I stare back, but don't wave. I can still feel his eyes on me as I walk to the showers. He's trouble and I will not hesitate to put him in his place if his behavior calls for it. I could give a shit if he's friends with Laura or not.
I hurry in the showers and get dressed in under five minutes, not wanting to draw too much attention from the other people that live here. Laura and Chaney are waiting with Happy outside of their RV for me. Laura is smiling wide. She appears to be genuinely happy to see me. "Hey, girl...look at you, all clean and shit." She laughs and steps back to examine my appearance. "I can see the clothes we gave you fit nicely."
"They do. Thank you!" I give her a hug and step back awkwardly, waiting for Laura to ask why I'm here.
"What's up?" She asks.
"Nothing too much," I fidget nervously.
"Nothing too much, huh? Chaney said you said it was important."
"Um...I guess I just need a few friends I can trust and you and Chaney seem like those friends."
"You can trust us."
I step closer and glance around, making sure no one is listening to our conversation. "I wanted to tell you the reason why I'm out here on my own."
"Okay... and?" Chaney Questions.
"My younger sister Solia was taken here, in the desert and murdered. I know it's a lot to process, but I need your help catching the man who did it."
"WTF!" Chaney says, shocked.
Laura stands in front of me and places her hands on my shoulder. She nods her head and quietly asks, "Where do we start?"
