Chapter 71 - Tough Day

For the whole duration of Quinn's stay in the academy—now Void's—it seemed like his reputation had only gone downhill. And, now that it was revealed that he could, in fact, harness Demise Energy, it is safe to say that his reputaion had completely gone to shit; it was bad enough when most of the students would not recognise him as a fellow, respected student of the Royal academy as that would mean that Quinn's side-objctive to blend into Vampire society was being scrapped. But, now, people have begun to avoid him like a plague due to the presence of Demise Energy within him, so blending in is just out of question because there is nothing to blend into at the acadeny.

'Quinn would not appreciate this, I suppose,' Void thought as he calculated and predicted the rapid fall and iminent ruin of Quinn's planned neutral life-style in the academy, 'But, the only way to get out of this situation was to say the name of the one Energy that Quinn possesses, that any advanced life-form can possess: Demise Energy.'

Now, for some background on the Demise Energy that is so notorious and feared, we must understand that it is one of the four Primordial Energies—Origin, Demise, Arcane and Astral Energy—and is also the most destructive of them all, being recognised as an uncontrollable power and a stark contrast from the holy Energy that brought forth all of creation according to the Vampires and Humas: Origin Energy. But, in truth, creation would not have been possible if not for either of the two Energies; meaning, Demise Energy was equally responsible for the gift of creation as the Origin Energy.

It is the flawed and mortal ideology of the Vampires and Humas that they consider Demise Energy as the archnemesis of Origin Energy when both of them are two sides of the same coin; Holy and Unholy, Good and Evil... such concepts do not exist for things outside of the mortal Realm. But, it is also because of a massive part of Vampire history that such a dark mark was placed on the name of Demise Energy; the regicide of the first Queen of the Vampires by her very own kin, involving the first ever manifestation and use of Demise Energy.

'Although it is a Demise Energy we are talking about here, the church cannot do anything to Quinn as long as he is a student of the Royal academy. And, precisely because it is Demise Energy, the academy will do its utmost to protect Quinn from any outside influence,' Void thought, still waiting for professor Adolf to recollect himself and calm down.

"I... ahem-! It seems that you possess a very... unique and powerful type of Energy. Uhh, could you please put that away, student Quinn?" Adolf gestured the rowdy students to calm down and keep quiet, "I must say, I have not had many experiences with Demise Energy, so I am afraid that I am unable to assist you in regards to improving your control over the same. However, I would recommend helping me investigate this Energy such that my knowledge of Demise Energy may be heightened; by doing this, I may be able to help you control this destructive power while making a great contribution to the realm! What say you?"

'Well, he sure recovered fast,' Void thought, 'It seems like Quinn's stay here is only getting more annoying. The only viable option here is to agree to help him experiment on Quinn's Demise Energy and study it; it will make the others feel a little more safe if he were to reveal something about Demise Energy, after all. Just to make it look like I am not a threat, I suppose I will have to cooperate with this Vampire.'

———

After Void's bold performance, revealing Quinn's Demise Energy, followed by the delayed participation of the rest of the students, Void got to see his fair share of different kinds of Energies. Finally, it was the most anticipated student's turn. 'Well... what will you display, child of Scion?'

———

'Hmm, yes, indeed,' Void thought, 'He hid the fact that his was the much revered Origin Energy, and instead, posed it as... Spirit Energy? I suppose that was a good choice since it is not as weak as Elemental Energy despite their similarities.'

After the first lecture of the day was over, Void still had to survive more till Quinn could wake up—mentally, that is. Till then, however, he would have to rely on Quinn's memories to get through the lectures smoothly. It must have been because of the fact that the Vampires and Humas were so much more advanced than the Humans on Earth that the topics were so sophisticated and the lectures more complex, requiring a high level of understanding of multiple things and topics that may be interconnected.

'I had thought that the presence of Energy within the normal mortal beings was exceedingly rare,' Void thought, 'It seems that I was proved wrong by these so-called mundane beings. If such growth would be valid for the Humans on Earth as well... my Lord, I would understand your intentions behind their exile to a hidden Realm... and the fact that you have indeed laid a path for Quinn. He must survive the awakening; if not, we will never escape this repeating cycle of suffering.'

———

It was finally the end of the day's lectures, when Void could finally leave the Royal academy that he encountered Second as though he was waiting for him. 'The potential successor to Scion. I do not know whether it is good or bad that we meet so soon, but I suppose we must make the most out of this encounter. Perhaps I can draw her out with my name alone—maybe, the Third King's—since it seems like the child's control over Origin Energy is phenomenal; it far surpasses Quinn's. And, because such is the case, it might be that either: his power is borrowed from a master of Origin Energy—which I doubt even exists—or that he is under the guidance of another such being and is its disciple.

'I know for a fact that no such Origin Energy masters exist... because Vincent—Scion's Kin—made sure to eradicate all of them along with their texts. I can only hope that it is Scion that aided this boy; if not... things will get messy and Quinn's stay here might just be ruined. I hate to take such a risk on Quinn's behalf, but I must confirm Scion's existence.'

Second's was a wild and threatening appearance, so he was not the most approachable person; especially with such a status as his: being one of the youngest Vampire Lords—or so they say—and having the support of a few of the Vampire Lords and Elders of the Table for unknown reasons.

"You," Second called Void out, in the middle of an empty hallway, leading to one of the exits from the academy, "Human with the Demise Energy. What is your name?"

"...Quinn Maw," said Void reluctantly, "You are Second, if I remember correctly."

"Yes," Second responded, "I was in... admiration for your control over that kind of destructive Energy, so I went out of my way to form an acquantainceship with you."

Silence ensued as Void took a while to finally respond to Second. It was as though two monotonous robots were conversing with each other, in a futile attempt to get closer to each other.

Before any one of the two could say anything, Shadows cast over them, bring them to the Shadow Space. "Let me speak to Scion, Second. I know that Energy you possess is Origin Energy."
