After moving to Canada, Si Hoo changed his name to Mark Morris, of which Ji Na never knew as they had lost all contacts...
A week had passed since Mark had left.. Ji Na felt anxious and wanted to know where he was but she didn't have the courage to ask anything about him, at all... Her parents had sensed that she's a little irritated today but they didn't knew why, they thought that it must be because of Si Hoo (Mark)... So, they both decided to take her to her favourite amusement park to make her forget about him for a while and relax... "Ji Na, let's go to your favourite amusement park today." her mom said. "Yayy! Amusement park!!" shouted Ji Na excitedly springing on the couch of the living room, her eyes sparkled for the first time in a while, "I will ride on all of the rides there okay?"
"Sure honey."
"Haha" her dad laughed from the kitchen, "Aren't you scared of the roller coaster? How will you ride it if you're so scared of it? Haha."
"Humph! I'm not scared of it Papa." she yelled.
"We'll see when we're there honey.. Now let's get ready." Her mom said with a gentle smile on her face.
Just as her parents had thought, Ji Na was not irritable anymore but an excited 5 year old kid..
Her dad took out their car out of the garage, seconds later Ji Na and her mom came out of the house. Her mom locked the door and kept the keys inside her designer black leather sling bag (they were wealthy)... Ji Na climbed up the back seat of the car and her mom followed and tightened their seatbelts... They covered 1/3rd of the distance.. Everything was going smooth and silk, Ji Na was completely relaxed. Her favourite song 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' by John Denver was playing and she sang along "Life is old there, older than the trees." "Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze." Her mother joined her.... Both of them started their own little concert at the back seats, "Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong~
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads~."
*BEEEEEPPPP.....CRASHHH*
A truck came straight at them from the wrong side of the road in a turning. The truck collided with their car with immense force that almost completely crushed their car. Everything went blank from Ji Na's sights. All she could hear was someone crying, calling out her name.."I'm sorry honey" she heard someone say with a very frail voice.. Those were the last words of her mother before she passed away....
When she opened her eyes she couldn't see for a few seconds.. slowly all the colours and faces were showing up in her eyes. Those unfamiliar faces examined her pupils and her pulse "All stable" one of them said, "Poor soul" another one said... Ji Na couldn't figure out what had happened and why was she in bed with all these tubes and needles pierced in her arms. Among all those unfamiliar voices there was one voice she could recognise.. "Aunt Mi Ra." Ji Na whispered but loud enough for her aunt to be able to hear it.. Mi Ra started sobbing the moment she heard her voice "Oh my heavens! What have happened? What should we do now?" she mumbled, her voice was coarse because of all the sobbing... "Where's mom and dad?" Ji Na asked
"Honey they're not here anym-"
"Where are they?" Ji Na asked before her aunt could finish.
"Some place far away from here."
"Did they go to the amusement park and leave me here with you? All alone?"
"No honey...." she stumbled upon the words, "They're in Heaven now."
"But only dead people go to Heaven. So, why did they go there?"
"Oh honey,... they have passed away. It has been 4 days since."
Ji Na went silent, her face turned paler than it already was.. She recalled the words she had heard back then.. "I'm sorry honey.".... "Mommy" she said in her mind "It was mommy's voice".. She felt something warm rolling down her cheeks.. She cried for a long time that day....
The next day she thought about someone whom she couldn't remember. She recalled that she was about to ask her parents something about that 'someone'... She couldn't remember who that 'someone' and what that question was...
The doctor had told her aunt that Ji Na might suffer from memory loss as she got injured quite deeply on her head during the car crash... She was scared but also somewhat relieved that Ji Na remembers her and her deceased parents. Later that day when she was with her in her ward, the doctor came by to check up on her condition. He asked Ji Na whether she remembers all the people her aunt had asked her about.. "Yes" she replied, "But I cannot remember someone about whom I was going to ask something to my parents that day." she added...
"Hmmmm" said the doctor, with concern over his face, "Do you remember that person's face?"
"No."
"Do you remember doing any activity with that person?"
"No." she shook her head.
The doctor walked out along with her aunt.."She has selective memory disorder." he said.. Her aunt gasped heavily, her eyes wide enough to scare off a ghost.
"Is it very serious?" she asked
"I can't say about it as it's not in my field" he replied, waited for a few seconds and added "She'll need therapy."
She went back inside the room and looked at poor Ji Na.. She suddenly remembered about little Si Hoo (Mark) who used to play with her, then she asked her whether she remembers him or not. "Who's Si Hoo?" Ji Na asked, confused.
"So he's the unfortunate one..." her voice started to break again, "Try to recall his face."... Ji Na did... The moment she tried to recall his face her head started pounding and she started to cry... "I think it was for good that you forgot about him." Aunt said caressing Ji Na's head gently with her hands, "Don't worry, everything is going to be fine soon honey.. I'll always be with you. I promise."
Ji Na heard a snapping sound in her head, again. The similar snapping sound she heard when Si Hoo left... She stopped crying.. The glow in her eyes suddenly disappeared.. She never felt pain again....
She forgot about the only friend, her best friend, she ever had....
