Chapter 109 - Free Slaves

The cave walls turned red suddenly and they started to panic. Immediately when they notice one of the slaves lying headless. Another tried running in the opposite direction only to be dismembered.

"Everyone stay still."

One slave said, raising both hands just for his left index and middle fingers to fall off. Everyone stopped moving, and after a while, someone asked.

"What now?"

"Let's all try to figure out what is attacking us."

The slave who just lost his fingers said.

"Look"

Shoto pointed at something in the distance. This gained everyone's attention even though he was talking to Lawhey. He stared in that direction for a while then asked "What?".

Only to notice seconds later, aerosolized blood illuminating a web string. Once he saw it, he couldn't see it. There were many in front of him.

Soon the others started to notice it.

"Oh my god, it is a morbid spider. We are all going to die."

"No, we are not, we just need to destroy the web and we will be free."

Immediately after Helton ended his sentence, one of the slaves tried to destroy the web with his hand. It cut it clean off.

"It's too late but…"

Helton murmured to himself before advising them not to touch the strings.

"Fire makes it brittle, after we burn then we break with something metal."

Shoto blew at the web and it moved in its direction.

"Does anyone have a fire starter?"

The slaves all looked at Shoto.

Helton looked around in search of a flint stone. After a while, he found one. He struck it against one of the slave's collars. It ignited a spark which Helton caught with a small rug. He gently blew on it until he created fire.

He placed the burning rag under a silk web and touched it with the rock after a while. It broke and the two ends fell apart. They did this three more times.

"This is very slow."

Lawhey said as sweat beads fell off his face. They shared the flame and others joined Helton. After a while, they say the mouth of the cave. This made people more anxious.

A breeze entered the cave blowing the silt threads. The thread was cut and dismembered carelessly. After a while, they made it out of the cave. There were only nine of them left.

On the other side of the cave was a grassland. They walked less than an hour and got to a village. There was dust in all the homes. They decided to spend the night there.

Some went to look for sticks and twigs they could burn to keep warm.

"This is desecrated land."

Ryan said the first sensible sentence in a while. The energy from the land was helping fight the leach activation.

"Yes, I think this land is a moon children's land. The vampires massacred them all. Erasing almost every werewolf in these parts."

That night while in the huts they heard a gust of wind. It entered their hunts and extinguished their fires. Ryan heard a growl and went to check it out.

In front of their hut was a black wolf. It had yellow piercing eyes which started directly into Ryan's soul.

"Kemi!"

Ryan spoke out just before it pounced. He shielded himself with both hands. Which Kemi bit and flung him around. Dragging him on the floor, others came out and tried to help by throwing stuff at Kemi. Shoto jumped and speared Kemi to the ground. He wrapped his arms around Kemi's neck and wrung. After a while, Kemi passed out.

"He won't be out for long, we need to move."

They all prepared to leave, quenching fires and packing stuff they might need. As they left Lawhey turned to see Ryan standing behind them.

"Pick up the pace."

Ryan shook his head.

"If I leave this place, I will start losing my mind."

"Kemi will reap you apart when he wakes up."

Ryan turned around and went back to the village.
