An Infinus elite, one named Gishida, desperately fought to keep the area theirs. He barked orders to warriors and hoped some of the higher-ranking elites heard.
Gishida rallied a row of defenders together, he felt his rapier grow heavy in his hand. Then the attack began. Arrows silently pierced the night sky, reflecting the flashes of lightning as they flew.
Raindrops muffled out the sounds of warriors drowsily panicking as bolts penetrated their armor. As they bled, monoliths sucked the spilled blood towards them.
Consuming it all, like inanimate vampires.
Opposing forces flooded their defenses just as quickly as rain touched the ground. Geshida thrusted his body forward, allowing his rapier to get a clean strike.
Then he backed up, letting his defenders shield him from attacks. He then leaped over the towering shield, bringing down his rapier for a kill.
Instantly after securing one, he brought up a knee to another incoming Conqueror. Draining the oxygen out of their lungs, Ginshida then ran past them. Using his rapier as a lance to pierce another's eye and destroy their brain.
He quickly spun around, then kicked the previous attack towards the defender. Who slammed the side of their shield against their head, causing them to tumble down.
On cue with another thunderclap, the defender stomped their head and used it as support to endure a strike from another attacker. Skull cracked and pieces of it lodged itself into their brain.
"Are our archers firing?!?" Ginshida cried out to his men.
Despite screaming as loud as he could, nobody could hear him over the calamity of the battlefield. Warriors from both sides groaned, trying to let out some built-up stress.
Ginshida dashed to the side, dodging an incoming slash. Then he spun around and drove his rapier straight through another warrior's neck, he yanked on their dying body as hard as he could.
Until he removed their head right off the neck, then Ginshida flicked his rapier in another attacker's direction. Causing the head to go flying and denting the target's shoulder plates.
They turned to see where this hit came from, only to receive Ginshida's rapier right through the eye. He retrieved his weapon, letting the rain wash away the blood off the blade.
Until all the crimson liquid floated away, latching itself onto one of the dozen monoliths in the area. Further increasing Valentine Prime's strength, who was watching from above.
Another lightning strike ignited the skies, revealing hundreds of arrows making landfall. Warriors from both sides of the conflict got struck by them, further weakening the defending forces.
Just like everyone else, Ginshida felt arrows drive themselves into his armor. Some went into his shoulder, others to his left forearm. He felt his grip on his weapon get weaker.
"Damn Conquerors, they fight like ani-" Ginshida noticed something was terribly off.
He looked down at the reflective pike that penetrated his chest, water sliding off the spear-like body. As his life faded, Ginshida witnessed his defenders being slaughtered.
The warrior that ended up killing him turned to face the other defenders, driving their pike through like a lance. When the defender tilted their shield to make room for an attack, they kicked them back. Then used the opportunity to kill them with a stab to the neck.
Infinus forces desperately retreated, hoping a miracle happens. But as they charged through the vast darkness, some fell off unsafe parts of Hymo. Others got caught by lurking enemy Ferals.
More arrows landed over them, poking holes in their defenses and injuring some enough to make them slower than the rest. Despite being taught to look out for their fellow warriors, they were too afraid of fighting back.
Because they knew better than to strike back against a force that's more dominant in the darkness than in the light. It was like instincts developed from battling Distorted, except these were not them.
Over night, half of what Infinus and Volatile fought for got torn out of their hands. By early morning, the few Ferals still standing from the allied Legions struggled for a way back.
Including Yazzo and Valiant. They descended through the sides of the mountain with ease, using their chitin forearm blades to anchor them in place.
Now with clarity, beasts took flight. Scouting the area to pick apart any remaining allied warrior. Storm Chaser Sky Beasts were virtually invisible under the clouds, making them highly lethal.
Elites and leaders alike fled to the lowest parts of the mountain, trying to form a plan of fighting back. Jakery purposed to rally as many Third Rule hosts together and make a dangerous gambit.
In response, Ether denied that. He knew better than to attack when he was soaked and his body warmth wasn't hot enough to hold out in a rainstorm.
"Then what should we do? Conqueror will kill us if we stand by and do nothing," Jakery protested.
A Volatile elite placed a hand on Jakery's shoulder. "Do not let the current state of the battle dictate your train of thought. We need riders flying overhead and strong defenses."
Ether crossed his arms, trying to think of a better alternative. However, everything he thought about had one common issue: their Legion didn't get enough rest.
So he turned to the mountain itself for answers, hoping to find inspiration for an idea there. That's when he quickly connected the dots, forming a strategy to buy them time.
"We destroyed so many homes yesterday, we can use them to our advantage. Let's station forces inside of as many homes as we can, they can defend from there," Ether explained.
Jakery and the elite paid their full attention to Ether, hoping this was what they were waiting to hear.
"Whoever isn't fighting retreats and rests as much as possible. Once the defenders had enough, we'll switch. Using this tactic will help us avoid losing large amounts of warriors while hiding from beasts," Ether continued.
The elite sighed, placing her helmet back in place. "Okay, let's see how well this holds up. Warriors! See yourselves indoors and prepare to ambush attackers from afar, those that cannot fight should retreat and rest."
