Chapter 296 - Not a Word Spoken

Demon's back sprouted wings that behaved exactly like Ether's fiery wings. Instead of bright burning embers that decorated an armored warrior, these were the forsaken and steaming skeleton it forgot about.

The Servant took a step back, watching Demon take flight with a simple jump. It marveled just how easy taking control of one's body and using it as his own was.

Secretly, the Servant knew this was against the rules. More specifically, the Second and Third Rules of Reality. Because those abilities weren't his own, and Demon was mimicking another Variant through an illegal method.

Regardless, that was not why the Servant was there. It was there to aid him in destroying the vessels, then to have a talk.

Like its ally, it took off to attack. But unlike Demon, it only had to leap to a vessel, not fly. Which caught him by surprise when he noticed the Servant was already on one.

It slammed a fist into the ground, shattering the entire ship in two. Wooden boards snapped and creaked as it separated itself with ease.

Variants remained frozen out of shock, unsure of what to do next. They didn't know Infinus 'had' elites strong enough to destroy their mighty ships with only a single hit.

Causing realization to kick in and panic to soon follow. The shipmaster emerged from a trapdoor beneath the deck. They narrowed their eyes in disbelief as the Servant jumped to the next vessel.

When it left, those on board looked out into the open ocean. Making sure there were no dangers, when they were confident, they abandoned their stations and jumped into the water.

Unknowingly landing right above Deep Ocean Ferals, who ascended to the surface and dragged Zegi and Thawed alike deeper. Where no one would find them or even know they died.

Because these Ferals waste nothing. Every organ, every bone, even the clothes were put to use inside their underwater dens.

As they got picked one by one, those closer to the surface desperately tried to swim closer to the shore. Only to feel a scaled hand grapple onto their ankles and a sudden tug.

This was what happened to every Variant that landed in the water, except for Ferals. Unlike their allies on board, they were escorted out to the shore.

Demon landed on another deck, knee first. Syndicate Dust crept through the small cracks between the planks, before turning into spikes beneath them and falling straight down.

Audible cracks and thumps could be heard from the deck, which only added to the destruction those above were facing. They saw what Demon did to the previous two ships, now he was here.

Massive blades with extraordinarily sharp but thin edges replaced Demon's arms, with those he divided everything and everyone in two.

Pillars that held the sails in place got struck by the blades, sending them crashing down onto the deck. Crushing Variants and leveling the back area.

Satisfying cracking and ropes snapping played an anthem of destruction. One Demon was familiar with, but not in this rendition. He was used to hearing explosions and screams, not these new melodies.

As the lower parts of the vessel took in the salty ocean water, the ship began to steadily sink. Demon chuckled as he pushed Variants aside, letting him see their next target.

He took off, darting across the skies like an arrow. The shadow that followed him around moved on its own accord, not following its caster.

It was a strange anomaly Demon was aware of, but never concerned about. After all, it kind of resonated with him. Being stuck behind someone else forever, doing as they do.

Demon's entire frame began steaming with its corruption moments before he slammed onto the next deck. On contact, the entire ship sunk deep enough to submerge the knees of those above.

They felt the odd blend of warm and cold soak their pants, instantly kicking them out of their trance. Each one tried to jump into the water to run away, only to catch a glimpse of the lurking predators.

Demon watched them actively panic away from those creatures, until six of them climbed onboard. Their bodies were an oceanic blue with a hazy green, scales protected their fishlike skin, with white nearly translucent scales covering their faces.

All six of those Ferals tackled two or more Variants into the sea. Letting the rest catch one and bring them down to their deaths.

In the end, Demon stood up, then walked backwards. Dust consumed him before spitting him back out on the shore, where the Servant waited for him.

"Never thought you were capable of fighting like that," Demon commented. "Especially so silently. Not a single word or sound escaped from your vocal cords during the entire thing."

The Servant nodded. "I'm now interested to know how you figured that out. You weren't near me after all."

"Heightened hearing," Demon truthfully answered. He was aware Servants and their wielders could sense lies and untrustworthy figures. "Anyway, what are you here for?"

It pointed north, towards Yarno, then it tried its best to convey some sort of grin. "I am aware of what is brewing within Infinus. The Nine are, too. So they sent me to aid you in what'll happen."

Demon continued to stare off in that direction, unbothered by the sudden discovery. "Whatever happens out there, I can handle."

"You clearly can't handle what we want you to handle," the Servant quickly responded. "We've studied that figure that keeps attacking you. And we're growing concerned of it."

Upon hearing the Servant mention the Seeker, he turned to face him. Almost in a hurry to see if this was the opportunity he was searching for.

"What you're saying is, the Seeker will be there?" Demon asked, nearly excited.

The Servant shook his head. "You've gotten its name wrong. Its name is Yulfinmier, or 'Corrupted' in the native Bakano tongue."

It crossed its arms. "You see, it started getting so obsessed with cleansing Koroth that it unknowingly got converted into half-Distorted. Almost like you, but with no one to intervene."

Demon awed. "I... that's interesting. Then, I'll accept your help. Let's gather in Krugi and watch the city move, the next act is about to begin."
